Hip-Hop | Rafter – No F*cking Around (Kinetics & One Love Remix)

Posted by on February 8, 2012

Kinetics & One Love recently spun up the Californian pop group, Rafter’s track, which will be featured on their upcoming project Cross-Fading Back To Normal.  With a little background synthesizing on top of this catchy poppy seed beat from One Love, Kinetics shared some enlightening bars as usual.  They also released a teaser video for their new track, “Cosmic Consciousness”, which you can view below or head over to DJBooth to take a listen to the track in full.  In top of Cross-Fading Back To Normal, Kinetics & One Love will be releasing a full, all original, album in the coming months.

P.S. Does album art get any better than this?

Hip-Hop, Videos | Timeflies Tuesday: Time Goes By

Posted by on February 8, 2012

[do action=”youtube” videoid=”9Ca65Xm2BtI”/]

Timeflies is gold.  Plain and simple, they deliver.  Timeflies Tuesday has transformed into a legitimate download worthy song week after week.  Sulking in the defeat of our Patriots, Cal and Res redirect their positive energy to focus on the beauty of Madonna and her impressive halftime performance.  At age 53 Madonna is still looking hella good lip syncing like she’s 25.  Sampling one of her many hits, “Music”, Cal spurs off some incredible vocals covering the Super Bowl halftime show while paying respect to Myra Kraft.  Timeflies will kick off their midwest tour this week so make sure you enjoy this video and catch them live if they’re in your city.

Hip-Hop | Introducing New Talent: 360

Posted by on February 6, 2012

[do action=”youtube” videoid=”Gj0EgmIJBvg”/]

I came across “360” a few days ago on Rap Radar and couldn’t help but wonder, “Who is this guy and how is he in the studio with J. Cole?”  Hailing from Queens, NY, 360 finds much of his inspiration in 90’s hip-hop which acted as the birthplace for his career as an artist.  As far as I know, 360 is still unsigned and has one mixtape to date, Been Official, on his resume.  From the few tracks I’ve heard his sound is very authentic, justifiably so, when you’re frankly unknown and already in the studio with Jermaine.  Below is his most recent (and debut) video for his remix to Common’s “Blue Sky”, titled “Mr. Blue Sky”.  Judging by the sound of the beat with Cole above and the verses I’ve heard 360 put together, that G-Shock may be turning into a Rollie sooner than you think.

“Am I wrong cause I got some dough and copped a couple finer thingsG-Shock to Rolex, my how the times have changed!” – J. Cole

Hip-Hop | Ess Vee – Get Right To It

Posted by on February 5, 2012

Word to the wise, persistence pays off. If you’re hungry, you’ll eat. I’ve got to hand it to Ess Vee – his team stayed on my case about getting this dope track posted – he’s definitely armed with passion and hunger. I’m an FNT grandfather so I’m slow to post but when I do, pay attention. Ess Vee harnesses the power of music to reflect upon his life in an introspective fashion. His lyrics are fresh and pertinent to his life events and the social issues, which exist in our present culture.

Albums, Hip-Hop | Sol – Yours Truly [Album Review]

Posted by on February 2, 2012

Feast your ears on Seattle’s newest hip-hop prodigy (well, new to my ears at least).  What name comes to mind when you hear “Seattle Hip-Hop”?  For an east coast native like myself, Macklemore was the easy answer.  After opening my ears and mind to the 23 year old Sol (pronounced “Sawl”), I’ve learned Macklemore & the rest of the Seattle hip-hop scene is in very strong company.

Recently releasing a trio of EP’s titled “Dear Friends”, Sol dropped his first highly anticipated LP, Yours Truly, on January 20th.  Quickly escalating up the iTunes charts, the indie album claimed the number one spot on the hip-hop charts and number four on the worldwide leader board.  Although this was not the first time I had heard of Sol, it was the first time I really gave him a chance. His confident, yet reserved demeanor corresponds with his musical message and the music runs deeper than the recognition it may receive.

Yours Truly is an artistic representation reflecting Sol’s life, beliefs, experiences, and trials & tribulations of making it in the music industry. Listen through in full and you may find yourself painting scenes of to a movie (popcorn rap sold separately).  Authentic bars, organic stories, and versatility, track after track.  In addition, the project is presented as an album should be presented.  Each song transitions into the next retaining a level of fluidity, there is balance, and a variety of sounds.  Each song is a part of the bigger picture.  The first time I listened, I found my ears increasingly fixating the deeper into the project I traveled.  It’s one of those albums that is always better when you listen in full from beginning to end. Below is my personal reflection of each individual song (yes, I understand your thoughts and opinions may differ) along with a lyric or two that represent the song best.

Hip-Hop | e-dubble – Grey Skies (Prod. by Villain)

Posted by on February 2, 2012

Taking a short sabbatical after consistently delivering new music almost every week for close to a year and a half, e-dubble is eager to get back in the booth and provide us with weekly refreshments.  With high hopes of hearing the first of the new series of “Freestyle Friday’s” last week, e-dubble shared this unfortunate message with his Facebook fans,

“So Freestyle Friday can’t come back just yet, I have no car, no mics, and no hair. And APPARENTLY, I need a “break.” I don’t know what a vacation looks like, but if the beer flows anything like the Wines of Capistrano out at the COLORADO SCHOOL OF MINES. I’ll be fine. Love, e-dub”

Soon after the Maryland MC shared this new collaboration with guitarist & producer, Villain, aka Billy Martin of Good Charlotte, who is also a MD native.  Word is e-dubble is working on an EP to release this year in addition to Freestyle Friday’s which will hopefully resume soon.
