Moombahton | The Very Best — Yoshua Aikuti (Nadastrom Remix) // Nadastrom “Moombahton Massive” EP

Posted by on May 10, 2012

Nadastrom. My dudes. Moombahton has come an incredibly long way in the past three years, but had Dave Nada not hopped on the decks at that fated house party in 2009 we wouldn’t be talking right now. We love our moombahton here at FNT, so it seems only fitting now to take a moment to check in with the genre’s originators — who have big things in store for us in 2012.

To say that Dave Nada and Will Nordstrom have been busy lately would be an understatement. Their Moombahton Massive brainchild — a wild local dance party that has blown up venues in Miami, Austin, and Chicago — has officially gone international. They just kicked off a North American tour. Their record label, Diabluma Sound, is set to launch on May 22. And on top of all of this, they’re still hard at work. They recently dropped a compilation “Moombahton Massive” EP on Scion A/V in conjunction with some well-worn names (Sabo, Steve Starks, and JWLS), which highlights the genre’s funky, sexy, global roots. The EP is free (!!) and you can preview and download it here. They also just released a feel-good yet positively haunting remix of The Very Best’s “Yoshua Aikuti,” a catchy-as-hell song we suggested could be poised for a global takeover when the video dropped back in April. Nadastrom’s treatment is subtle, chilled out, and a wonderful showcase for Esau Mwamwaya’s soaring vocals. Want to inject some new flavor into your iTunes rotation? This is just the stuff.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Logic – Young Sinatra: Undeniable [Mixtape]

Posted by on April 30, 2012

“I used to follow my dreams, until I caught up to them” – Logic

Word association. I say “Logic”, you say …? Lyrics, versatility, confidence? Those are just a few of the 22 year old’s most distinguished characteristics.

I was first introduced to Logic by Chris Zarou last July when he signed an independent record deal with Visionary Music Group. Christening my ears withLogic’s debut mixtape, Young, Broke, & Infamous, it was evident the young Maryland MC bolstered a repertoire unlike any other up and coming hip-hop artist. Mainstream beats, lyrics with a deeper flavor than seven layer lasagna, & a repeated intellectual and versatile flow. At that time, Logic had a slim 1,500 Facebook fans and a couple thousand Twitter followers. With very little blog coverage at that time, college sites began to join the movement which sparked a very successful sophomore mixtape, Young Sintra. Playing off his idol, the great Frank Sinatra, Logic’s fan base (shout out #RattPack & #BobbySoxers) was steadily growing. Logic has said Young Sinatra was a representation of the transformation of him turning from a boy into the young man he is today. Keeping the core values consistent with Young, Broke, & Infamous, Logic offered more originality and even more versatility. Serving up a blend of tracks for the streets, the avid fan of lyricism, college students, and even the fine groupie women (Bobby Soxer’s).

House | Viceroy & WhiteNoize – Only Takes (Original Mix)

Posted by on April 30, 2012

FNT favorite Viceroy collaborating with WhiteNoize is back with his first original since his EP in the fall. It has an old school house feel with a prominent, funky bass line, horn samples and vocal sample that helps carry the melody. It is a nice change of pace to hear that old school house sound with all of the electro and progressive house tracks these days. This track reminds it is Summertime, All The Time, so finish up those finals and get to summer. It will be out on Beatport on May 7th. UPDATED with Beatport Link

House | Fluxus-T.E.A.M

Posted by on April 26, 2012

Fluxus created another banger, this time taking the vocals from Calvin Harris’ Flashback. He did all of this work creating an original mix for this sassy betch named Celine. Celine, betch, what do you do and how are you doing it? He’s used your favorite word for the title, your favorite song “Flashback” and created an original track for you. Apparently you have it figured out or your self-esteem should sky rocket. I’m asphyxiating on how adorable this is. Just let this kid take you to prom because he’s like the skim milk to your iced coffee. Who wouldn’t want to go to Prom with a DJ anyways…think of the pregame playlist. Drink into oblivion (or not, whatever), find the perfect dress and make sure TL is by your side for those pictures that your mother is going to hark on you for. C, love you, mean it.

Love, BetchesLoveThis and FNT

Dubstep, Pop | Quincy Kwalae – Boyfriend (Remix)

Posted by on April 19, 2012

For all you Bieber junkies swaying your head back and forth alone in your bedroom to “Boyfriend”, hearing an echo within whisper “swag, swag, swag”, here is a refurnished version brought to you by the very versatile singer/rapper/producer Quincy Kwalae. Switching up the hook to sing “I won’t tell your boyfriend” rather than Bieber’s “if I was your boyfriend” Quincy adds his own verses and intricate production.

A fan of Mike Posner’s production on this track as well as other credited works in the past, Quincy adds his own dub sounds to the beat, creating a very catchy tune that may be more tasteful than Bieb’s version to the FNT Faithful. Hopefully this holds you over until Kwalae’s EP drops in due time.
