The final day of Electric Zoo was a doozy. I still feel like I was hit by a plane and day 3 probably had a lot to do with it. Though I unfortunately missed it, Flux & Doctor P apparently put on one hell of a show in the Hilltop tent. The rest of the day was a bouncy, awesome day full of variety and great sets in all the tents. This first track for R Rated is provided courtesy of SKisM. Although it doesn’t categorize exactly as dubstep, it instead is more glitch/moombahcore, but still heavy enough to be considered in this weeks R Rated. SKisM always keeps it fresh with his tracks and giving away his second installment of the ‘Division’ Series today was a good start to the day. The actual release is on August 20th accompanied by a remix from drum & bass producer TC. Both tracks definitely pack a punch so be on the lookout for the release.
Moxix unleashed this heavy bass filled banger only a few days and it clearly hasn’t been getting the recognition it deserves. Mach and I had a mutual understanding that this track would not be left out R Rated this week, because it is one of those heavy bangers that is given away for free every so often. The quiet intro and build up can be deceiving to what actually takes place during the drop, so be prepared.
Trolley Snatcha released a free EP this week through Scion AV covering dubstep as well as some UK garage tracks. This collaboration with Foreign Beggars definitely turned out to be my favorites on the EP, as well as probably the heaviest track featured on the EP. I had a feeling we wouldn’t exactly be seeing the best he had to offer being that it was a free EP, but it wasn’t a lost cause. I was pretty surprised after I strolled through my Soundcloud to hear this freebie promoting the release of Doctrine’s free EP. I went in listening to this track with no expectations and I found myself bobbing my head and feeling this track all the way throughout. Although we hear the typical “Yoy” modern talking synths and the Flux Pavillion high pitched leads the combination of all of them turned out pretty well in this track. Although the rest of the EP wasn’t too enticing to me personally I still recommend that everyone take a listen anyways, which can be found in the Soundcloud description along with the free DL.

Moombahton | Moombah Mondays (Trap Edition)

Moomba Blasta has been on point with their Trap uploads lately, and they have won me over. Honestly I cannot get enough of Trap-style after roaming through their youtube channel so I decided this weeks Moombah Mondays is going to be dedicated to Trap-style tracks. Starting off with the above track; wow do I love those vocals. The quick drums and snares accompanied by that heavy bass kick are bound to get the job done for any crowd. Whether you like it or not Flosstradamus, being one of the big names in Trap, is having their tracks played out by all the big names; Diplo, Flux Pavillion, Dillon Francis just to name a few. Just to help broaden your views on the genre I have two tracks from Flosstradamus on this weeks Trap-style Mondays. One is an old track that I just fell in love with again after hearing it being freestyled over by Papoose on Sway In The Morning, 5 Fingers of Death Freestyles. The newer one entitled Look At The Sky, gives you a taste of some hip-hop infused Trap music. Both bringing some extreme boundaries together into one amazing genre that is still growing.
This next one is a secret weapon of Luminox’s that he was kind enough to give away. I never new the famous Bingo Players track Rattle would ever be pushed to these bounds, but this is one of my favorite remixes to the track. The prolonged bass kick, fits perfectly with this melody and the reversal of the melody on the second drop worked out phenomenally.
Another truly remarkable and unique interpretation of a big dubstep track. Doctor P decided to put his single Neon up for a remix competition and so far most artist have decide to just try their hand at it, but end up giving away their remixes. This one I was happy to have from CRNKN, because it is so organized and well constructed. Nothing feels forced or out of place like I have heard with other tracks. I would love to see this sort of track being played more by big EDM artist to help expand these smaller genres.

Dubstep, Electronic, Events | SXSW — The Circle Talent Agency Artist Showcase & Bass Union

South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas is hands down one of the most prestigious musical festivals in the country. Unlike many festivals, SXSW encompasses almost all genres of music, so that nobodies musical taste buds go unsatisfied. If you are interested in all performances that are going to be happening during SXSW you can find them HERE.
If you are looking to party with FNT (and you would be silly not to) during SXSW, we will be crashing two insane events this year. The first EPIC is on Thursday March 15th and features sets from Andy C, Flux Pavillion, Dirtyphonics, Shiftee, Mistajam, and thats just the the ones I can count with one hand. The second show is going to be on Saturday March 17th featuring the Dieselboy, Bare, Terravita, J.Rabbit and much much more. Stiver Ryx dropped this mashup of Jay-Z’s Dirt Off Your Shoulder and Flux Pavilion’s remix of DJ Fresh’s Gold Dust in my inbox the other day, and it has definitely grown on me. The straight up passion that Flux Pavillion puts into their riffs melds perfectly with the laid back lyricism of Jay-Z…its hard to explain, just listen.

NYU students love indie music. At least one track related to the genre is bound to pop up on any given playlist, during the occasional apartment party. I first heard Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeroe’s song, “Home,” while out at one of said parties, a few months back. Although I typically shy away from bands such as this, the track proved otherwise. DJ Whole-Z capitalized on “Home’s” popularity by remixing the track into an electro banger. The beginning is slow, much like the original song, but the drop is pretty sick.

2010 didn’t play out so well for M.I.A.. We’re all sick of her remixes (if my girlfriends play a version of “Paper Planes” again, I may keel over). Two weeks after dropping her [decent] mixtape entitled “Vicki Leekz,” M.I.A. has released a new EP with four remixes of her song “Internet Connection.” Two of said remixes, by Flux Pavillion and Huoratron Rum Aid, are posted below and deserve some recognition.
