Our friends over at Monstercat hit me with a track by UK duo Lets Be Friends “FTW” that is leaving me completely stumped and inspired! Rarely does my jaw drop, and lead me to ask “what the fuck is this?” in the most positive way possible. Lets Be Friends went hard with this production, and as the title states, they went straight for the win! If you happen to add this to your playlist for the car, make sure you check your sped-o-meter, you might catch yourself doing over 100mph and not realize it, that’s how hard this goes. This is hands down a must listen and support by copping it on Beatport!

Abstract Hip-Hop | Vulkan The Krusader – Echo Chamber (Prod. by Yakamoto Kotzuga)

NYC via FLA emcee Vulkan The Krusader has been locked away in his studio hard at work for the past year. The spoils are set to drop on Feb 14th, Valentines day in the form of VX13, featuring a 13 original joints that range from future boom bap to dream-wave chill, with collabs from Sean Price, Kyle Rapps and Spaceman and more.
Vulkan tells me that “Echo Chamber” was written from the perspective of a love struck homicidal maniac whom he read about in a newspaper article. Ranging from purposefully slightly off key vocals to his on-point, punchy delivery, this track serves as nice cross-section of his talents, but there is so much more, stay tuned.
Bass | Tinashe – Vulnerable (Jacuzzi Remix)

For those that are still unfamiliar with Jacuzzi, he’s a young budding producer out of Honolulu who’s been gaining momentum faster than a tsunami in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Recently he’s worked with Mr. Carmack, remixed Santigold’s ‘Disparate Youth’ and released an incredible EP of free original tunes. Jacuzzi’s penchant for arranging punchy staccato drum patterns and overlaying them with dark cinematic sounds has helped him create a signature style, garnering nods of approval from industry juggernauts like Bassnectar, Craze, Pretty Lights and more.
With his latest offering Jacuzzi puts his spin on Tinashe’s sultry R&B joint ‘Vulnerable’. The trap-ish drum progression, menacing strings and Japanese sounding woodwinds mingle quite nicely with Tinashe’s smokey voice in this late-night banger. In a world where everyone is waiting for a wild-ass drop, Jacuzzi shows restraint, keeps his cool and challenges you not to bounce along.

Take an hour and 23 minutes out of your day and watch this video. Seriously do it. It features a full string ensemble, drums, a full compliment of singer, and even a guy sweeping the floor (just watch). Of course, Tony, Paavo and Jono are showing off that they are more than just guys who hit play and drag and drop presets, but real musicians. It is a fresh and beautiful take on their own material, from Ocean Lab to “Group Therapy”. The album comes out tomorrow and if you knows whats good for you, the purchase will be made. We also will have a nice giveaway to accompany it. Pre-order the album here.
Progressive House | The Two Friends ft. Jeff Sontag & I Am Lightyear – Brighter

The sweet, sultry, delicate voice of Blair, Leighton Meester’s character in Gossip Girl is the closest parallel I can draw to Jeff Sontag’s vocals in his, I am Lightyear and The Two Friends’ “Brighter”. The two vocalists perform a duet under the moonlight as well as over the production by The Two Friends, making it rather unique. It has a similar feel to many of their previous tracks in that it puts the vocals on display with a soft instrumental and then it turns it up for the build and drop, which again features a light, catchy melody (I guess).

Electro-House | Disco Fries – Murika (Tommie Sunshine & Live City Remix)

Live City & the edm Jesus, Tommie Sunshine, collabed last year alone 5 times, so it is fitting that they would get right to it in 2014 with another remix effort. They unleash a fireball of a remix, with an acid-tinged, electro drop, over a punchy, rolling bass line. These three have been coming together on some big tunes, and this remix is no different. Don’t forget to check out the two Disco Fries originals that are also on the EP.

Progressive House | Galantis – Smile (Maestro Harrell Remix)
Posted by Mel on January 16, 2014
As a follow up to his “All You Need Is Love” remix, Maestro Harrell has taken a spin at remixing Galantis’ “Smile”. Differing in style slightly from his previous remix, he went for a more melodic sound with the use of a big melody that carries the soaring build into the drop. The handling of the vocals and the production behind them is a little weak but the rest of the song is good enough that it is still a nice listen.
