Exclusive, Interviews, Review | Wallpaper. Exclusive FNT Interview @ Fillmore SF 11/24

Posted by on December 2, 2013

FNT had the honor of going to see Wallpaper. live, alongside 3OH!3 in San Francisco last Sunday night. We caught up with Wallpaper. after his set, and you can check out the interview we had with him above. The loud audio and the dark/festive lighting and setting perfectly reflect the mood of the night, so our apologies if it’s more going on than your normal interview, but I think Ricky Reed would be happier with this “hesh” setting than if it were in a quiet room in the back away from the party.

Although, after hearing Wallpaper.’s hit song Hesher, you may assume that all their music is very electronic based and therefore their concert would be more like a rave where a DJ plays loud music and everyone crowds together. However, Wallpaper. blew us away when their entire set was performed by a team of 4 – two drummers, one dancer/secondary vocalist, and of course, Ricky Reed himself. Besides showing us their awesome musical capabilities, they engaged the entire crowd using more than just music — but more of entertainment as a whole. There was awesome music being played, even with electronic songs like Hesher being perfectly recreated on the drums. There was also a whole lot of awesome dancing going on, and just a whole lot of good and energetic vibes that captured the audience as a whole. Hard to say I’ve really experienced anything like it before — but it was awesome, and we definitely look forward to seeing them perform next time they’re in the bay again.

P.S. Check out the awesome pic we got during his performance, and check it out when he instagrams it in the screenshot below.

Exclusive, Featured, Interviews | Showtek Talk The “Art” Of DJing, Terrible Shows, Basketball And More [FNT Exclusive]

Posted by on November 26, 2013

showtek

In conjunction with our presenting their Showtek Essentials a few weeks back, we have an interview with Dutch masters, Sjoerd and Wouter Janssen, known to you as Showtek. Their move from Hardstyle to Showtek-styled electro house in the past few has been well chronicled, starting with productions alongside Tiësto and Marcel Woods, like “Maximal Crazy” and then really breaking out with their own collabs and originals like “Hell Yeah”, “How We Do”, “Cannonball” and most recently “Booyah“. I would argue that besides W&W, only Maarten Vorwerk (unwittingly, the most famous ghost producer out there) has helped sculpt the festival-oriented dance music landscape as much as Showtek. They do not waste a single production, and live bring that energy to you every night.

During our interview we cover everything DJing, which they say “Their mum could do it”, their productions, past and future, bad shows, their love for basketball and much more. Head past the break to get to know the Janssen brothers a little better and stream the remixes for “Booyah” while you read.

Electronic | Cashmere Cat – With Me

Posted by on November 26, 2013

With so many other DJ personalities to attend to and a blossoming career on the rise, it’s understandable we haven’t seen much from Cashmere Cat recently. However, yesterday this kitty premiered his newest track, “With Me,” via Pitchfork and Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show. It’s everything you love about Cashmere Cat, with the distinctive beats, tambourines, soft piano chords, and those gentle builds that cascade one into the next. But “With Me” feels almost a little bit more intimate and softhearted than some of his previous work. Like a Drake ballad, this is the kind of song that when you listen to it alone, makes you feel like it was created just for you.

And it seems there’s more to look forward to! This song is just a preview of Cashmere’s “Wedding Bells” EP, set to release in January via LuckyMe Records. Fingers crossed the kitty doesn’t get cold feet! =^.^=

Electronic, Progressive House | Pryda – LYCKA

Posted by on November 21, 2013

Collab post from your favorite Swedish partners in crime, Mimada & Rebecca.

”Anyone who listens to this show regularly or knows me personally, will know how I feel about Pryda”, was one of the comments from Zane Lowe on Eric Prydz’s booming hit, “Power Drive.” Tong has never been quiet with his worship of Prydz, and nor have we. This latest release, “LYCKA,” uploaded yesterday for the crowd to indulge in, gives us 100 more reasons to go on about the man and his almighty talents. In fact, Zane Lowe and BBC Radio 1 have already deemed this the “Hottest Record In The World.”

The title LYCKA, which is ”Happiness” in Swedish, fits the track like a glove, as Prydz now has opened the shutters to his dark (but oh so lovely) California studio. Pryda describes to Lowe his inspiration for the track in a brief interview below, claiming he was simply in a “good place” when he produced this project. And boy do the good vibes radiate through this sound. LYCKA is light, uplifting, just pure bliss, which is much needed in this pitch-black Swedish winter. This guy always knows how to provide listeners with what they need to warm their hearts.

Stick around to catch the interview at the end of this journey of a track, because you will be listening to the friendly voice of the most modest, down to earth DJ in the world. Enjoy his epic work below.

Progressive House | Lush & Simon – City Of Lights

Lush & Simon - City Of Lights

The dance music world is starting to notice Lush & Simon in a big way, especially with “Adrenaline” being the clear favorite of “Talent Revealed Volume 2“, and a mainstay of DJ sets worldwide. We saw this on Tiësto’s club life earlier in the summer and at last Trice Recordings is lucky enough to be releasing this bomb today. There is still some room on the Lush & Simon bus, hop on now while there is still room.

Progressive House | Mikky Ekko – Kids (The Chainsmokers Remix)

Mikky Ekko - Kids (The Chainsmokers Remix)

I met one of the members of The Chainsmokers for the first time the other day and was shocked to learn they weren’t moonlighting as professional oil wrestlers in their spare time. They do breed Golden Retrievers and Alex is single ladies, so wink wink, golden retrievers and a very eligible touring bachelor DJ? Hop on that right now (full disclosure I do not know if they breed golden retrievers). One thing I do know for certain because it is right in front of me is that they recently did a remix for Mikky Ekko’s “Kids” and it is the moving progressive house we have come to expect from them. Grab is for free from the giving producers, and maybe they will give you a puppy (probably not).

Progressive House | Hardwell ft. Matthew Koma – Dare You

Hardwell ft Matthew Koma - Dare You

The newly crowned most popular DJ in the world, Hardwell gives us his first single since “Never Say Goodbye” back in May. The track was first released on Shazam last week, giving people a taste of the track (as if they can’t do that with rips on youtube), but everyone really wanted the full version out today. “Dare You” is one of poppier tracks that we have seen from Hardwell, but refreshingly leaves behind the minimal festival style that has become the norm for his label for a more uplifting, melodic take.
