Hip-Hop, Videos | D-WHY – 2,000 Miles [Music Video]
Posted by Jess on January 23, 2013
After much anticipation, D-WHY releases the visuals to “2,000 Miles”, one of my favorite songs off his debut free album Don’t Flatter Yourself. The song is a coming-of-age of D’s travels from his hometown in West Virginia to the west. For the video, D hoped in an RV with his friends (including up-and-coming rapper KYLE) and set out on a journey across the southern California coast. At the end of the video, you can find a hidden ending that showcases another side of D-WHY, his passion of folk music that recently came to light with his release of a “Song For Newtown”. Check out the video above and download Don’t Flatter Yourself below if you have yet to do so.

Progressive House | Arias – Andromeda
Posted by Middy on January 21, 2013
Frenchman, Julien Arias, professionally known as Arias first made his name known back in 2006 aside Arno Cost with “Magenta” and later in 2011 with “Days To Come” with Arno Cost & Michael Feiner. He since has been pretty quiet, releasing a remix here and there like his “Someone Like You” remix that did pretty well. However, with the launch of his label Olympia Records and its debut release “Andromeda”, it is safe to say that Arias is back and will be busy on the production front. “Andromeda” is a very proggy, melodic track with well crafted synth layers, rolling bass lines, pitched leads, dextrous key play and a subtle vocal that round out this incredibly unique and timeless offering from the Parisian producer. This is the type of track I could see Pryda dropping during a peak moment in one of his sets.

House | Dannic – Clobber

Revealed Records protégé, Dannic makes his debut on Mark Knight’s powerhouse label Toolroom Records with a genre blending record that has already seen support from the likes of Hardwell, Fedde Le Grand, Axwell, Mark Knight & more. “Clobber” brings together the styles of Toolroom Records and Dannic with a prominent and infectious bass line that you can’t help but dance to. Native to Breda, NL, Dannic shows his versatility in his productions not just putting out progressive & electro tracks, but this more clubby track that is sure to see huge success.

Progressive House | Walden – Intropial

Young Australian producer, Walden follows up his debut single on Big Beat Records, “Ciaco” with his first offering of 2013, “Intropial”. Not straying from his progressive tendencies, Walden weaves together an uplifting melody with well timed stutters that may seem overused for some, but not here, pitched vocals and a steady bass line. As he is in the midst of his first stateside tour, Walden is proving once again that he can provide consistent quality. You can find info on the rest of his tour after the jump.

Electro-House | Danny Avila – Breaking Your Fall (Remixes)
Posted by Middy on January 15, 2013
Well connected aspiring Spanish DJ, Danny Avila has released the remix package for his debut single on Big Beat records with contributions from Mikael Weermets, dBerrie, Sick Individuals & Lucky Date. Each take very different approaches to their remix duty, each letting the vocals from the original shine and then remolding the melody as their own. Mikael Weermets takes the original melody and adds his own stuttered electro stabs for a tougher sound, while Sick Individuals distort the original melody and add their own grinding drop. NYC native dBerrie adds a quick pulsating electro synth line to replace the original melody and Lucky Date adds a grungy, bass heavy drop, making it possibly the most unique of the package.
Progressive House | Fehrplay – I Can’t Stop It
Posted by Middy on January 14, 2013
One of the names to watch in 2013, Fehrplay makes his return to Eric Prydz’s Pryda Friends imprint with his debut 2013 release “I Can’t Stop It”. The Norwegian producer provides us with the hallmarks of what we can expect with a Fehrplay production and Pryda Friends release — subtly and melodic complexity. Getting its first play on EPIC radio 005 and later being chosen as an essential new tune by Pete Tong, Fehrplay uses a rolling bass line with euphoric synth chords and prominent arps, aided by entrancing vocals to create a complete, full body track sure to remain prominent for the first few months of the year..

Hip-Hop, Videos | Dillon Cooper – Survival Of The Fittest [Music Video]

Dillon Cooper is on the brink of breaking out of his shell – no pun intended (get it? Brink. Brink Brinker. Disney Movie. Rollerblades. Dillon Cooper blades.). Poised with passion, energy, and a special musical blessing, Brooklyn’s own Dillon Cooper shares the first video single off of his forthcoming debut project, Cozmik. Cooper’s musical inspiration is driven by spirit of pro roller blade skater and best friend Brian “Cozmik” Scott, who was tragically murdered during a BK robbery back in 2010.
The 19-year old may have only lived through the tail end of hip-hop’s golden era, but he packs a full flare of raw, 90’s inspiration into his music. A spunky freshness comparable to Bel-Air’s Prince, Cooper showcases his wordplay while staying very animated in front of the camera. Speaking of the camera, “Survival of the Fittest” was directed and edited by Hi-Lite Reel Boston. Stay tuned, big things coming from this young gun.
Cozmik, ??/??/??.
