Artists | Collin Mcloughlin
Posted by GMONEY on March 18, 2011
Collin McLoughlin’s energy and passion for writing and performing great music, continuously fueled by his strong talent and the support of his ever-growing fanbase both inside and outside of the music industry has brought an exciting new voice to today’s pop/electro scene.
Collin began his career as an acoustic artist, writing and recording original material in his early teens. Following a successful tour to support this guitar-based music, he was recruited by three fellow students at Colgate University to create the hip-hop/R&B group, Nautical Young. Collin began by writing and singing hooks and quickly began to co-produce songs and manage the group.
Nautical Young’s debut album, ‘Just in Time’ was released in April, 2010, sponsored by DJ Benzi. The mixtape was met with rave reviews by fans and critics alike, leading to a college tour across the East Coast.
With the group members heading to different coasts upon graduation, Collin focused his efforts on his solo career and began recording a debut solo project in May, 2010. Combining his recent involvement in hip hop and R&B, with his passion for electronica, and his acoustic roots, Collin’s solo project serves as a refreshing blend of electronic, soul and pop rhythms. He has performed with Wale, Fabolous, K’naan, Sam Adams, and Lupe Fiasco.
House | Deadmau5 – “HR 8938 Cephei” | House
Posted by Mach on March 14, 2011
Going to be honest. I am quite lost to the meaning of this name and Deadmau5 uses some weird ambient noises, but this is a HOT NEW HOUSE track. He really goes back to the style of his early days as an artist, which is what most of us fell in love with at the start of his career. This track defines Peace of Mind. Makes you wonder what other surprises he has in store for us.

Electro, Hip-Hop | Bijan – Love for Me and U (feat. Dancernaut) | Electro-Hop

This should quench your indie hip hop thirst for at least a few days. I’m pretty excited to drop this not only because the tracks are dope but also because “Dancernaut” happens to run one of my favorite blogs DancingAstronaut.com. Talk about putting me to shame, this guy can run a sick site andddd harness the power of his fans to jump off his career. I’m really digging the singular vibe these guys bring to their tracks. I’d tell you to hit their Soundcloud but I’ve already posted all the tracks so follow Bijan and DancingAstro on Twitter (here is his Facebook band page).

Hip-Hop, Reggae | McWorm – “Be Free” and “The Intro” | Chill Rap
Posted by BIGLIFE on February 10, 2011
Here’s an interesting story covered by CBS News in DC about the rapper featured in this post who balances his hip hop career with a passion for politics. It even touches upon the new nature of the music industry, a topic that our FNTers know all too well. Check the video if you have some free time. Otherwise skip right ahead to the soulful and chill rap tracks below. I’m really digging Cisco’s vibe, it’s a welcomed change of pace in my music library. Definitely give these an ear. I can’t decide which one I like more, so sound off in the comments section or chatbox. Stay tuned to Skillful Methods to catch the EP release in March.

Albums | Big K.R.I.T, Juicy J, MGK, Cudi, Pitbull, and Consequence | HIP-HOP

Lupe Fiasco released the cover art for his wildly anticipated album “Lasers” today via twitter. I know you’re not supposed to judge a book by it’s cover, but this project looks promising. I’ve tried to stay away from the sports scene because I know we have a number of Pat’s fans coming to the site, but I just couldn’t help posting the Jet’s theme song by Consequence. If you’re a fan of NYJ, you’ll dig this track.

MGK recently signed to Interscope so I’m betting his career will take off like a hot stock. If you haven’t given Twista’s white counterpart a shot, now is the time.
DOWNLOAD: Juicy J – Boat Load (feat. Machine Gun Kelly)
This track illustrates Cudi’s wide range of talent, definitely worth a listen.

Pats fans, sorry. JETS fans, enjoy time to talk shit and conquer the Steelers.

Again, Pitbull always finds the clubby sounding beats that really hold up tracks.
Hip-Hop | KAM Royal and Donte
Posted by BIGLIFE on January 10, 2011
I’ve had KAM Royal on my radar for quite some time and I’m pleased to pop his FNT virginity with this chill rap track. VA stand up! The second song features an up-and-coming rapper who was inspired to begin his career after the passing of a close friend. The pain and general adversity that this Hartford artist faced is definitely present in the track making it a more meaningful listen. Hopefully some of you will recognize the beat from Brenton Duvalls “That’s All” track.
