Featured, Interviews | Alesia talks Bird Machine, Filet Mignon, & More!
Posted by VMan on September 10, 2013
The first day of EZoo, the FNT crew got a chance to link up with the French duo Alesia, also known as Nicolas and Lemuel, who just finished spinning their set at the OWSLA vs Boys Noize tent. This was a first for both to be spinning at a festival in the US, and New York out of all places. You might not be familiar yet with the name Alesia, but chances are you’ve heard their trap hit “Bird Machine,” which they co-produced with DJ Snake, either at a festival or on your television screen. The track is currently being used on a Target commercial! With how things are going, you’re going to be hearing a lot more from them in the future, so keep your ears out!
Check out the teaser video they released for their time at EZoo, look out for Alesia at Tomorrow World on the OWSLA stage, and read our interview after the jump!
Trap | Kanye West – New Slaves (DJ Snake Remix)

Say what you will about Yeezus, and say what you will about trap — ain’t nobody gonna argue with how swaggy this song is. What else would you expect from one of the “Bird Machine” masterminds? No doubt about it – Paris is burning right now.
Moombahton, Techno | Alesia – Otho & Andrea // Tune In Crew – Tous dehors
Posted by Spice on April 30, 2013
I’m not sure why I’m lumping these tracks together. They’re really only similar in that that they are cool, free, and happen to have been written by French producers. But given that we’re now only a few weeks away from Random Access Memories, it seems sort of appropriate to cast a spotlight on some of France’s brightest up-and-comers. So, without further adieu…
First up, two new tracks from Alesia, whom you may recall recently made waves with the
now-omnipresent “Bird Machine.” Be advised: “Andrea” and “Otho” are not trap — both are dark, industrial techno carefully calibrated to get inside your head. Fellow Parisian Gesaffelstein would undoubtedly approve. If this is your poison, hop on the free DLs…and if not, do me a favor and give it a chance. Relative newcomers though they may be, Alesia are definitely a duo to keep your eyes on.
Next (and finally) we have a really interesting track that’s currently putting a gigantic smile on my face. I’m not sure what it is about “Tous dehors” — the languorous moombah bassline, the steel drum (and all the dancehall flavor it imparts), the French samples…but something about this gels fantastically when it probably shouldn’t. Super chouette!
Trap | DJ Snake – Bird Machine (feat. Alesia) / Together
Posted by Spice on February 22, 2013
Two huge releases in this package from French producer DJ Snake. We already previewed “Bird Machine,” a cool as hell track with Alesia that’s seen playtime from Dillon Francis, Knife Party, Flosstradamus, and Baauer. The defining feature? You guessed it — bird whistles in lieu of more traditional synth leads. This track is quite honestly going to be everywhere in about five minutes so take my advice and jump on it now. Rounding out the package is “Together,” which flirts with hardstyle before delivering a big, bouncy trap drop. The two seemingly disparate styles work surprising well together and bring serious energy. “Bird Machine” and “Together” are both out now (for free!) on Mad Decent’s Jeffree’s imprint — snag the free DL below.

Trap | Stromae – Humain à l’eau (Dj Snake Remix) / DJ Snake & Alesia – Bird Machine [Preview]

And here we have some straight bombs from French producers DJ Snake and Aleisa. The above preview for “Bird Machine” notably made its way into Knife Party’s recent set in the RISE digital music festival on turntable.fm after Mixify’s servers couldn’t handle the heat, and is easily some of the best trap I’ve heard in a long time. If you’re into it and need it now, fear not; it’s set to drop tomorrow as part of a mini EP on Mad Decent’s Jeffree’s imprint. Below, we’ve got some legitimate swag for your ears that for whatever reason is made even swaggier by the fact that it’s all happening in French. Fact: the awesomeness of that drop negates the need to understand what he’s saying, anyway. Free DL; no brainer.
Compilation, House | Top 50 Dance Tracks Of 2013: 30-21

30. Axwell – Center Of The Universe (Original + Remode)
With the breakup of SHM in March, it gave Axwell the chance to finally finish up some of those unreleased tunes that have been burning through his hard drive over the past couple years. The first to get finished up, much to the delight dance music fans everywhere was “Center Of The Universe”, the super melodic tune that is textbook Axwell and we love him so much.
29. DJ Snake ft. Alesia – Bird Machine
Target commercial or not, “Bird Machine” was one of the trap anthems of the year. These three Frenchmen conjured something special when they released “Bird Machine” back in February, putting the world on notice that this would be the year for DJ Snake, and Alesia should be on your radar pronto.
28. Mat Zo – Lucid Dreams
Just when you thought Mat Zo couldn’t get any better, he goes and releases his debut artist album “Damage Control”, displaying the vision, creativity and skill that he has as a producer. As big as “Easy” was, it was released as a single in 2012, so that disqualifies. The whole album is an incredible body of work, but the timeless quality of “Lucid Dreams” that was backed up by massive DJ support lands this at 29 on our list.
27. Kaskade – Atmosphere
The title track from his recently released 9th artist album, Kaskade did something on this track he had never done before: sing. The grammy nominated tune has propelled Kaskade to new heights, even at this point of his career.
26. Hot Natured ft. Anabel Englund – Reverse Skydiving (Original + Shadow Child Remix)
Hot Natured set the mood, but it was Anabel Englund’s crooning vocal that sets this tune apart from so many others. Shadow Child then came in and added his own soothing touch to create a remix that was as big, if not bigger than the original.
25. Dusky – Careless
Just when the Beatport top 10 chart was being dominated by the likes of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Hardwell and Tiësto, Dusky came storming through to take the top spot. The British duo have been a mainstay on Anjunadeep for some time now, but with “Careless” they were thrust into the dance music spotlight.
24. Dannic – Clobber
The Revealed Records man had a breakout year and “Clobber” was how he kicked it all off. The bouncy horn style became infectious, as it was another sound synonymous with progressive house in 2013.
23. Knife Party – LRAD
Knife Party have been quiet on the production from this year besides their 4 track “Haunted House” EP released in May, but they make each tune count. Though other tracks like “Power Glove” really saw the full force of Knife Party’s style, it was “LRAD” that became the biggest, as one of the most skilled festival tracks made this year.
22. DVBBS & Borgeous – Tsunami
The second REALLY big festival track after “Animals” this year, “Tsunami” exploded the careers of DVBBS and Borgeous. It has been a staple of sets since August, receiving the “ID” treatment from Spinnin’. The unsung hero on this track is The Cataracs who was involved in the production.
21. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike – Wakanda – 2013 has been the year of the watered down hardstyle kick and unnecessary sub bass. “Wakanda” ushered in that trend in 2013, as the DV & LM tune became a quick favorite to start the year.
