Chill, Trap | Gorilla Beats – Trap Hippy

Posted by on October 12, 2013

Over the months that I’ve been in San Francisco I had the pleasure of watching as the EP ‘Trap Hippy‘ developed via San Francisco based producer Gorilla Beats. Taking weeks of maticulously working away in the studio / behind a board, brainstorming music concepts, perfecting a mix but still finding time to kick back and enjoy it all in the process, Gorilla beats has the perfect release of 5 smooth instrumentals taking on a new kind of sound – trap hippy. With the distinct undertones of Drum & Bass trap mixed with the ambient electro sounds that have been on the rise in underground music, the final bounce is somewhere between trap and relaxed (trap hippy). I got my in on a little of the fun collabing with Gorilla Beats on one of his songs ‘Wrap’, featured on the EP . During the sesh, I felt where the music was coming from; the whole time we were just chilling and talking music, enjoying company and getting our night started with some drinks to go around – everyone had good vibes, which is what the ep ‘Trap Hippy’ should bring to you. Two of his songs are featured through his SoundCloud, but if you want the full look, check it out HERE (via BandCamp).

Chill, RnB | Blood Orange – Chamakay

Not sure where Blood Orange came from, but I’m glad I listened to “Chamakay” this morning, it’s been on repeat all day!  The man behind this New Wave RnB/Soul record is Dev Hynes who has written songs for the Chemical Brothers, Florence and the Machines, and Solange Knowles. His Wikipedia page also mentions that he is working with Britney Spears on her 8th album. Not sure how that will translate, but one thing’s for certain I love this sound, and I look forward to hearing more of his solo work!  Hate to make the comparison, but if you like The Weeknd, you’re going to like this record! Must Listen!

Electronic | Iggy Azalea – Change Your Life (Maddslinky Remix)

Posted by on September 27, 2013

Aight y’all, I’m gonna come out and say I’ve been on a bit of a female empowerment kick lately (stay tuned, you’ll see) so I had to contribute a remix from one of the baddest bitches out in the game right now – that being, Iggy Azalea. Incase you’re not familiar with the Australian pop songstress, lemme inform you first and for most that, other than a wicked sense of style and ferocious stage presence, this girl has some serious curves, second perhaps only to the Bootylicious queen herself, Beyoncé of course. I tell you this because when you see Iggy in her music videos and on the cover of magazines, she looks like a *freaking* goddess. So all you prepubescent looking teenagers in your wife beaters can just move over because once Iggy gets in the spotlight there won’t be any room left for you.

Ehem. Anyways.

Here’s a remix from her second single of her album, The New Classic. After dropping a dope ass video, Iggy released a series of remixes of the track, so here’s my personal favorite: a very deep, head-bobbing rework from the man of many faces but who we’ll call Maddslinky // Zed Bias. Check it out, and the original video below as well.

Progressive House | Sick Individuals & Axwell ft. Taylr Renee – I AM

Sick individuals and Axwell ft. Taylr Renee - I AMOnce known as the “Lights All Night ID”, Axwell breaks his pattern of blue-balling fans with tracks and releases this one in just 9 months time. This track in simply perfect, with the vintage melodic work we expect from Axwell. We cannot forget Sick Individuals on the track, who have been on fire lately and take another leap forward with this massive collab. Taylr Renee is poised to be a big vocalist in dance music, so be on the lookout for her. If you don’t like this song, we can’t be friends.

Dubstep, Mainstream Remix | Miley Cyrus – Wrecking Ball (Skrux Remix)

Posted by on September 12, 2013

I’m sure we’ve all heard this song at least once by now, or seen the hammer licking music video everyone’s so worked up about on the Internet. Skrux remixed this popular song into a beautiful melodic masterpiece. Not that it came as a surprise, because Skrux has been on point lately. He expertly builds up the intro into rising and falling bass hills and synth chops. My personal favorite part is around 2:30 when he drops the vocals down a few octaves. This one’s free!

Electronic | Amerie – Gotta Work (Phazz Remix)

Posted by on September 4, 2013

Unlike most girls, I LOVE surprises. And boy did this Amerie remix from French producer Phazz knock me off my feet (or swivel chair, whatever). It starts off pretty trill and then about a minute in… well, I don’t wanna spoil the treat. All I can say is you better not pass on this soulful free download. Browsing through some of Phazz’s older tracks you might find that not only are they all free as well but they’re actually all very dope. In fact, the name should ring a bell if you’ve been on top of your music blogging game. So check it ~

Hip-Hop, Rap | Caskey – Show Me Some (Prod. Myles William)

Caskey-Show-Me-Some-516x340

The YMCMB protege Caskey has been on my radar for a minute ever since I heard his track “Words” around this time last year, and he’s still grinding. His producer Myles William sent over “Show Me Some” last night and I fux with it heavy. Caskey jetted to Paris, France to shoot this video, and he isn’t stunting, he’s keeping it real. It appears when one of the biggest label in the game signs you, those who hated, or weren’t paying attention, start showing love. Ironic how that works? Either way this record is a must listen, and a must download, and look out for his mixtape The Transient Classics out August 28th!
