On the heels of his very controversial Ultra MainStage set where he premiered a lot of the new material from his new album and there was a kazoo, Avicii gives us a further glimpse into the future with this hour long promo mix that features several of those aforementioned country-house tracks. He starts in the mix with some upcoming more traditional Avicii tracks, including the massive collab between him and Lana del Ray, before launching into some of his more experimental material that put the world on notice at UMF. To be honest I was one of the people who hated on the stuff at the time because mainly I just did not know how to process what was going on and rejected it outright for the moment. But, after listening to it on some nice speakers in a calm setting, it is growing on me and I think it will grow on most Avicii fans as well because I would like to think that his fans are open minded enough to give it a second chance. Maybe that is naive, but I would like to think that is case.

Nearly a million people per day last weekend watched artists like Hardwell, Fatboy Slim, Porter Robinson and Armin van Buuren rip up various stages of Ultra Music Festival. This weekend should only be better with new visuals being rolled out for certain artists and an outrageous ASOT lineup taking over the megastructure on Sunday. The word is that the final SHM show will be broadcasted and also Avicii will be premiered a whole bunch of his new album on the main stage, so be sure to tune in to that. Progressive House | Avicii – UMF

After getting its world premier in November of 2011, Avicii finally releases his track that was dubbed “ID 2” or “Fire” or “Put Your Piano On” by Tiesto. It is slightly different than the version that was being played out for a while and then played once on Tiesto’s Club Life, but still has the same hallmarks of the melodic, big room sound that has made Avicii so popular. Most notably the melody in the beginning and the rolling piano that gives this track its uniqueness. It is interesting that Avicii is releasing this track as a part of the UMF 2013 album instead just as his own CD. It is either an indication that he really respects UMF and wants to give them something special, or he feels has moved past this sound and this does not really reflect where he is at the moment. Putting the snafu of his computer getting stolen behind him, Avicii has spent the past several months working on his upcoming album and by all indicators it should make the Swedish superstar even bigger.

Electro-House | Afrojack – Air Guitar

After his rather poor attempt at remixing “Gangnam Style”, Afrojack makes up for it with a single “Air Guitar”, designated to be an anthem for this years Ultra Music Festival. Afrojack delivers on this intense track with powerful bursts of electro growls, distorted vocal samples and blistering bleeps with a small interlude to let you catch your breath before getting right back into it. On the heals of Tiesto, Quintino and Alvaro’s somewhat lackluster effort last week and Avicii’s contribution “UMF”, known to many as “ID2” or “Fire” or “Put Your Piano On”, coming next week, Ultra is pulling out all the stops, not only in terms of bookings, production, but also new songs for the two weekend, 15th edition of the world famous festival. With Afrojack’s debut album coming later this year, expect much more to come in 2013 from the towering Dutchman.

It is that time again and you need these mixes to push through the weekend and to get you through spring break. We start off with Avicii’s much talked about Diplo & Friends mix that is more funk and old school than what you would expect from the Swedish superstar. In celebration of Anjunabeats Volume 10, The Drop has put together an all Anjunabeats episode with tracks old and new in the mix. Listen at 3pm on Tiesto Club Life’s channel on Siruis XM for their entry in the College Invasion radio contest. Next up we have the March edition of Hysteria Radio from the Bingo players that includes an exclusive first play of the Dada Life remix of “Out Of My Mind”. Forging on we have a mix from Cazzette for Liquified Radio and Magnetic Festival that includes a host of their own tracks from their recent three part “Eject” album. Just as he did last May in celebration of hitting 2 million Facebook fans, Avicii has hit another huge social media milestone hitting 3 million Facebook fans and to celebrate is giving out a free track from his extensive list of unreleased tracks. Like “Two Million“, this offering is a never before heard track and not something you will hear in his sets, but is a more unique track that sounds like it has Eric Prydz influences in it with quick playful arps, a rolling bass line, subtle synth layers and excellent vocals from Negin that come together on this mellow and melodic track from the superstar. It is great to see his sound diversify during his time off from touring and who knows maybe we will see some more stuff like this on his album whenever it comes out. Grab the download for free below.
