Electronic | Hermitude – Ukiyo

Posted by on April 17, 2014

The legendary Australian electronic-meets-hip-hop duo Hermitude dropped this brand new track titled “Ukiyo” yesterday in anticipation of their upcoming next album release. It’s honestly just a really nice, different, refreshing sort of sound, the kind that you want to hear all day long because it keeps your blood pumping and your spirits high. I’m getting excited just thinking about an entire album featuring this sort of style. While you might recognize these guys from that infamous Flume remix, which I have to admit is in fact one of my favorite tracks of all time, do take the time to check these guys out as artists, it’ll be worth your time.

Electronic | Disclosure – White Noise (cln remix)

Posted by on April 10, 2014

We’re approaching the one-year anniversary since the unforgettable release of Settle and yet, Disclosure remixes are still popping up at a steady rate. What this can only mean though is that for a remix to get any attention at all at this point has to really stand out. I think it’s safe to say Australian up and comer cln. hit the mark with this remix of “White Noise.” He brought this track around a full 180, turning it into a more passionate electronic ballad featuring strings and some very distant sort of tropical beats, not to mention somehow managing to transform Aluna Francis’s vocals into something more Amy Winehouse-esque, which works perfectly for this rework.

A quick glance at cln.’s Soundcloud is enough reason to expect big things out of this producer – his feed includes a delicate Drake remix (think Ryan Hemsworth) and a brand new Kilter remix that’s already heating up. Plan to spend your weekend with cln. on repeat.

Saturday, Monday - The Ocean (Dirge x Howl Remix)

Dirge and Howl are, apparently, two producers from Australia. There is no information anywhere about these guys other than that. However, I can share that in my short yet magical correspondence with Howl, he is almost always super turnt. He is also 18 and managing to create awesome stuff. There are only two songs on his Soundcloud and they are both below because they are both great. This is somebody you should keep an eye on because I can see him getting big fast.

Trap | RL Grime & What So Not – Tell Me

Posted by on March 7, 2014

All the What So Not collaborations we’ve seen hinted at across social media the past couple weeks following the Aussie festival season and prefacing the American one are *finally* coming to light. But even before the release of this RL Grime and WSN love child, it was pretty obvious that this would be a huge track, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Remember how that “Jaguar” track made you feel a very special type of way? Well this one is like that, but times 10. Each drop gets bigger and bigger throughout the song, so much so that I’m embarrassed to even be listening to this off my laptop as these speakers can hardly do it justice. Hopefully you can do better – like, this much better.

Deep House, Melbourne Bounce | Happy Endings – Shy Guy

Posted by on February 17, 2014

Throughout my time studying and traveling here in Europe, I’ve somehow managed to meet heaps of Aussies everywhere I go. I’ll admit I love their company so I don’t mind but at times it makes me wonder if they’re in the works of some secret, global takeover of sorts…. Anyways, today’s first track, “Shy Guy,” was brought to my attention by word of mouth from a Sydney native whom I encountered in my hostel in Berlin last week. I was pleasantly surprised to give it a listen later on and discover that it was in fact worth a second, third, and fourth listen after that. Happy Endings, although lacking almost any kind of background information, seems to be a deep house-producing duo led by Melbourne Bounce star Fat Blake. There’s something unique about this track compared to a lot of other songs from this genre that I’ve been listening to that I can’t quite put my finger on, but that makes me all the more excited to see what they come out with next.

Hip-Hop, Rap, Videos | Wiz Khalifa | DayToday | Australia | Episode 3

Posted by on February 8, 2014

Though some have criticized Wiz Khalifa for being repetitive with his lyricism and unprogressive with his albums, he has still found a way to become one of the biggest, most recognizable artists in the world. His ‘DayToday’ show series, which gives you a look in on Wiz’s everyday activities, allows fans to feel more connected with the artist and his music while he still gets to goof off and have shit tons of fun. In this third episode of the Australian tour, Taylor Gang leaves smoke trails all over the coast, and even A$AP Rocky can’t resist asking Wiz for a little bit to chill out after a show. With more scenes and more footage this time around, there’s plenty of new material to enjoy with lots of funny moments along the way.
