Trap | RL Grime & What So Not – Tell Me

Posted by on March 7, 2014

All the What So Not collaborations we’ve seen hinted at across social media the past couple weeks following the Aussie festival season and prefacing the American one are *finally* coming to light. But even before the release of this RL Grime and WSN love child, it was pretty obvious that this would be a huge track, and it certainly doesn’t disappoint. Remember how that “Jaguar” track made you feel a very special type of way? Well this one is like that, but times 10. Each drop gets bigger and bigger throughout the song, so much so that I’m embarrassed to even be listening to this off my laptop as these speakers can hardly do it justice. Hopefully you can do better – like, this much better.

Deep House, Melbourne Bounce | Happy Endings – Shy Guy

Posted by on February 17, 2014

Throughout my time studying and traveling here in Europe, I’ve somehow managed to meet heaps of Aussies everywhere I go. I’ll admit I love their company so I don’t mind but at times it makes me wonder if they’re in the works of some secret, global takeover of sorts…. Anyways, today’s first track, “Shy Guy,” was brought to my attention by word of mouth from a Sydney native whom I encountered in my hostel in Berlin last week. I was pleasantly surprised to give it a listen later on and discover that it was in fact worth a second, third, and fourth listen after that. Happy Endings, although lacking almost any kind of background information, seems to be a deep house-producing duo led by Melbourne Bounce star Fat Blake. There’s something unique about this track compared to a lot of other songs from this genre that I’ve been listening to that I can’t quite put my finger on, but that makes me all the more excited to see what they come out with next.

Hip-Hop, Rap, Videos | Wiz Khalifa | DayToday | Australia | Episode 3

Posted by on February 8, 2014

Though some have criticized Wiz Khalifa for being repetitive with his lyricism and unprogressive with his albums, he has still found a way to become one of the biggest, most recognizable artists in the world. His ‘DayToday’ show series, which gives you a look in on Wiz’s everyday activities, allows fans to feel more connected with the artist and his music while he still gets to goof off and have shit tons of fun. In this third episode of the Australian tour, Taylor Gang leaves smoke trails all over the coast, and even A$AP Rocky can’t resist asking Wiz for a little bit to chill out after a show. With more scenes and more footage this time around, there’s plenty of new material to enjoy with lots of funny moments along the way.

Electronic | Akouo – Last Time

Posted by on January 21, 2014

I originally fell in love with Tasmanian producer Akouo because of his remixes, which are often derived from a variety of genres and artists and evolve into fantastic original works on their own. Today Akouo (via Die High Records) brings us a taste of his own homemade production – and vocals! “Last Time,” the first single off his upcoming EP, Mesa, is everything and more I’d expect from the artist: a combination of that trending ADM sound that us everywhere else in the world can’t get enough of, and that special Akouo flavor.

“The track is basically about people who spend too much time trying to please the ones in their work environment and no time pleasing the ones they love. It also serves as a reminder or warning to my future self, to always put family first,” explains Akouo in a recent interview with Kick Kick Snare. Oh, what a lovely reminder to listen to, over and over again.

Wave Racer has been one of my favorite new artists with his bouncy take on so many different songs. The Future Classic label is stacked and Australia is budding with emerging new producers and Wave Racer is at the forefront. The whistles mixed with the bouncy bass and catchy synths are magical. This one is going to be on repeat forever, and I’ve already been stuck on his Always Remix, which I will post below. Get in tune with Wave Racer and his social media outlets below and show some love!

Electro-House | DCUP – Magic

Posted by on December 5, 2013

You know what the best feeling in the world is? Well, one of them, for that matter – when you’re mood and inspiration starts to plateau and then all of a sudden you hear a song that, within seconds, gets your blood rushing again. It’s 1:15pm and I was already three cups of coffee deep and couldn’t seem to shake the zombie feeling when I stumbled upon DCUP’s latest release, “Magic.” I’m a little out of touch with the American audience at the moment (it’s snowing over here in Sweden for the first time so I’m kind of out of touch with everything, tbh) but I think this Melbourne-based producer has been sneaking by, under appreciated and that needs to change. Actually, you might remember DCUP from “We No Speak Americano” back in the day, and you’ll recognize some of those funky latin vibes in “Magic.” But give this one a spin, it’s a bit of a 80’s groove, Duck Sauce-esque, touch of house cocktail with an Australian twist. Just what you need to spice things up.
