Last month, Steve Aoki revealed that he’s been in the studio with some unexpected collaborators working on a few tracks that would shock the world. The Dim Mak label head got in the studio with the American Idol star, Adam Lambert, and the Dutch youngster, Felix Jaehn, on his latest effort, “Can’t Go Home,” for one of the most unexpected collaborations that we’ve seen in years. While the three artists come from vastly different backgrounds, their work on “Can’t Go Home” together meshes seamlessly, as Aoki steers away from his typical electro house stylings in favor of Jaehn’s uplifting, sun-soaked brand of melodic house. The talented duo of producers lay down soaring flute melodies and smooth percussions to bolster Lambert’s pop croons.

Progressive House | Bebe Rexha – Drinking About You (The Chainsmokers Remix) [Preview]

Bebe Rexha - Drinking About You (The Chainsmokers Remix)It is time to turn the page on #Selfie, the disaster that was their appearance on American Idol and everything that had to do with that. The irony of Selfie is that it only made the situation worse. Alas, people are too dumb to realize when they are being made fun of. Time to get back to what got The Chainsmokers their fans who are more interested in the remixed artist then the best Instagram filter for their selfie.

Back with that, they have managed to get music ready for the end of the summer and this fall, despite an incredibly busy summer that has taken them all over the world, with more shows to come, including Electric Zoo. Turning that page they have another single “Kanye” out in a week and then this remix sometime in September.

Progressive House | Jose Gonzalez – Step Out (The Chainsmokers Remix)

Jose Gonzalez - Step Out (The Chainsmokers Remix)

Since this is the first track from The Chainsmokers since the infamous American Idol incident, I feel I should share something with you guys. First, some background. I have written what feels like a million posts for them as well as interviewed them. Also, I think about them like all the time and they do the same for me I’m sure. The Chainsmokers, Drew and Alex, called me fat a year and a half ago. They’ve also called me “mrjerkalot” and, most recently, told me to “keep it wrapped”. They’re just two awesome guys and, honestly, if you hold that terrible hit song and the American Idol thing against them, then you’re just kind of a jerk.

Enough about that, onto the song. It sucks. Just kidding. It’s an official remix for Jose Gonzalez’s “Step Out”. They have kept a lot of the original intact, but gave it some festival power to match the anthemic vocals. It’s being released on iTunes in two days, the 26th of June.

Pop | Phillip Phillips – Gone, Gone, Gone (Frank Kadillac Remix)

Posted by on May 8, 2013

Now, obviously, American Idol is the best show on television. That’s a well known fact. “Gone, Gone, Gone”, the latest single by Phillip Phillips who was the winner of the eleventh season of Idol is a great song. It really is (video above in case you haven’t heard it).  Frank Kadillac took the excellent original and added a few elements to make it a high energy, radio friendly summer track. With it being only a little over two minutes, I just wish it was longer.

Hip-Hop | Skizzy Mars – Pay For You ft. G-Eazy & Devon Baldwin

Einstein once said, “Not everything that counts can be counted and not everything that can be counted counts.”  In layman’s terms; quality > quantity.  I wont go as far as saying Skizzy took a page from Einstein’s book (yet), but he certainly understands the principles.  As I’ve said before, Skizzy doesn’t strike as often as some artists, but he consistently delivers quality music.  The latest single, “Pay For You”, features O-Towns debonair rapper, G-Eazy, who lends both production as well as a verse on this track along with American Idol contestant, Devon Baldwin.  You can catch Skizzy on the road with G on his 2013 Must Be Nice tour. Phases coming soon!
