Progressive House | Hook N Sling & Nervo – Reason (Vicetone Remix)
Posted by Middy on January 4, 2013
Vicetone follow up their breakout 2012 campaign with a great start to 2013, hitting another yet another social media milestone of 50k Facebook fans and with that another free track. This time they take on “Reason” from Aussies Nervo & Hook N Sling, taking a decidedly different approach from the rather aggressive official remix package, building off of the original and adding their illustrious big room sound that would translate so well to an arena or festival space. It is crazy to see how quickly these guys have blown up, but when you listen to how good, clean and precise their productions are, you can’t be that surprised.

Compilation | Dshaq’s Top Ten of 2012
Posted by dshaq on January 3, 2013
I keep finding it harder and harder to believe that a new year is upon us. To put it in lay man’s terms, 2012 was a pretty dope year. Just to name a few examples, we saw:
1) Chicago Rap take over
2) The emergence of new rappers into the game such as Joey Bada$$, Chief Keef, and Trinidad Jame$.
3) Anything Kanye touches is automatically amazing
The year proved to broaden my musical taste and allow me to venture into different genres. So without further ado, I present my top ten tracks of 2012. Enjoy. READ ON >>
Progressive House | Thomas Gold – MIAO
Posted by Middy on December 26, 2012
Thomas Gold finishes off a year that has seen his his rise among the ranks at Axtone, mixing its 2012 compilation, his highly successful essential mix debut, a flurry of remixes and singles, and now his debut on Calvin Harris’ imprint, Fly Eye Records, “MIAO”. Thomas Gold gets right into the club ready drop of pulsing pitched chords and quick alternating snare and evolves the track with a slow melodic interlude that beckons in that same pulsing drop from before. He is about to embark on his winter North American tour, so be sure to check him out at a city near you.

Both tracks stay true to Jeremy Olander’s production style of chugging bass lines and progressive ebb and flows, with “Put Out” emphasizes rapidly developing melodies and subtly quivering key play, while “Pusher” gives us one of his more energetic productions that builds and builds with its driving bass line and powerful synths. Hip-Hop | J. Cole – 2012 (Prod. by J. Cole)
Posted by Grubeats on December 21, 2012
Cole weighs in with his 2 cents on the Mayan calendar (even though CNN is claiming the living Mayans don’t believe we’re all going to die after all). Lil Cole was on his Mr. Cleo shit back in ’08 when he recorded this gem, sitting, plotting for this exact day. Here’s what he had to say on his blog about the track;
If the world ends tomorrow, damn. I would be mad as shit for 2 reasons. First, I’m not with my family. That would suck.
What would also be wack is if I never got to drop this song.
Summer of 08?. Mark Pitts meeting had happened a month ago. He said he fucks with me, but he not talking about signing me. Ok. Fuck that. I’ma make my new shit so stupid that the next time he meet with me he gonna HAVE to sign me. Same summer I made Grown Simba and started The Warm Up with a “fuck it” mentality. A few special songs I made that summer haven’t dropped yet. This is one of them.
2012
Some of the most fun I ever had making a record. Alone in my room, making the beat, writing the raps, Jammin to this.
Here we are, Years Later, and right on time. Enjoy
– oh yea. Shout to the spanish nigga that came through and played the percussions. To the cool ass horn player that laced me, I forgot his name. This was my first Quincy Jones moment. Shout to Lil Cole. Shout to Aristotle. Shout to YOU.

Cover, Hip-Hop, Rap, RnB, Videos | A$AP Rocky – F*ckin’ Problems (Rendition) by SoMo
Posted by J_Salzer on December 9, 2012
I don’t think I’ve ever heard the word f*ck said as many times by one person in a span of 4 minutes than in the video above. Although, the ugliness of the word is cancelled out by Joseph SoMo’s beautiful voice. For this week’s “SoMo Sunday,” SoMo takes on one of the more…explicit rap songs of 2012. He transforms it into something smooth and soulful as per usual. I’ve come to expect terrific covers from SoMo, even with YouTube making it possible for everyone and their Mac-Book-owning-mother to cover a mainstream song, Joseph SoMo finds a way to stand out.
