Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Logic – Young Sinatra: Undeniable [Mixtape]
Posted by Grubeats on April 30, 2012
“I used to follow my dreams, until I caught up to them” – Logic
Word association. I say “Logic”, you say …? Lyrics, versatility, confidence? Those are just a few of the 22 year old’s most distinguished characteristics.
I was first introduced to Logic by Chris Zarou last July when he signed an independent record deal with Visionary Music Group. Christening my ears withLogic’s debut mixtape, Young, Broke, & Infamous, it was evident the young Maryland MC bolstered a repertoire unlike any other up and coming hip-hop artist. Mainstream beats, lyrics with a deeper flavor than seven layer lasagna, & a repeated intellectual and versatile flow. At that time, Logic had a slim 1,500 Facebook fans and a couple thousand Twitter followers. With very little blog coverage at that time, college sites began to join the movement which sparked a very successful sophomore mixtape, Young Sintra. Playing off his idol, the great Frank Sinatra, Logic’s fan base (shout out #RattPack & #BobbySoxers) was steadily growing. Logic has said Young Sinatra was a representation of the transformation of him turning from a boy into the young man he is today. Keeping the core values consistent with Young, Broke, & Infamous, Logic offered more originality and even more versatility. Serving up a blend of tracks for the streets, the avid fan of lyricism, college students, and even the fine groupie women (Bobby Soxer’s).
Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Jadakiss – Consignment
Posted by GMONEY on April 27, 2012
Jadakiss returns for a hard-hitting mixtape with beats reminiscent of his early days with Bad Boy. The features on this mixtape are OBSCENE, with all of The LOX (Jadakiss’s group) including Sheek Louch and Styles P, along with Wale, Swizz Beatz, Waka Flocka, Meek Mill, Fabolous, Lloyd Banks, Young Jeezy, Yo Gotti, French Montana, I could keep going…the producers are just as impressive with Jahlil Beats, Young Joc and AraabMuzik being just a few. Right from the start, Jahlil Beats murders the beat on “Paper Tags”, and Wale’s verse is nasty. “Respect It”, the track with Fabolous and Lloyd Banks, is straight up dirty, Marly kills the beat. Listen to the mixtape below; D-BLOCK.

Cam Meekins latest release “Blazed and Confused 2” is a 10 track mixtape, previewing the dankness that is about to be his upcoming free album being released on May 21st. In usual Cam style, he straight up murders “Represent”, “Shiraz” and “Organic Food”, with “Phone Tap” and “Cas Drawl” being on the chiller side. Download the whole mixtape below and check out Cam’s facebook here. Shoutout to Oliver on the find.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Chance The Rapper – 10 Day

Now I’m a little late with this, but this is too good to not post. Chance The Rapper, a fellow Chicago native, delivers a masterful mixtape combining beautiful piano riffs, great rhymes, and clean vocals. Chance has been creating a great buzz not only in Chicago but also across the internet, and this tape is the reason why. I’m blown away by this production, it’s top notch, even sampling one of my favorite indie bands Beirut. This will be on repeat for quite some time, which is perfect with Summer around the corner because there are some great cruisin’ songs on it. This is definitely a MUST DOWNLOAD and look out for more Chance in the near future.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | QuEST – Nowhere To Go ft. Logic
Posted by Grubeats on April 10, 2012
Apart from the recent baby boom of Gen-Snapbacks, there are artists who continue to draw from the roots of hip hop. Lyrics are the focal point. QuEST, a native to Miami has not fallen into the trap of imitating local mainstream guru’s like Rick Ross, nor the Mac Miller army of high school “rappers”, but rather snapped back to the early 90’s where he has taken a page from his idols books. With a feature from arguably one of the realist lyricists coming up, Logic, this is one of the standout tracks off Quest’s recent mixtape, Fear Not Failure. I haven’t had a chance to listen to the project in full yet, but judging by this track and the few we’ve heard in the past, QuEST is holstering some real potential.
