I’ve been a fan of SomeKindaWonderful since their debut single, “Reverse,” off of their first studio album, SomeKindaWonderful. The Cleveland-based rock band has been on a steady rise to stardom, as their unique fusion of electronic music with live elements of a rock band is hard to find in dance music. Today, they’ve teamed up with fellow electronic rockers, Ratatat, for a mashup of their unreleased track, “The Problematics,” with Ratatat’s new single, “Cream on Chrome” that will blow you away. Ratatat’s electro-rock production provides the perfect canvas for vocalist Jordy Towers’ alluring croons. Plain and simple, this track is some kinda wonderful. Stream the mashup above, and get your free download here.

I know from my Barnard going sister, that gender shouldn’t be mentioned, but damn, VenessaMichaels kills it with the prods, cause her latest “I Need That” featuring Joelle James and Tay Jasper, is straight money, so I just want to shout out girl power, and if you’re ever speaking of the dope up and coming producers, male or female, you better include VenessaMichaels, she deserves it! This is a must listen and a must download!

Ambient, Chill, Electro | ØRKA Releases “Phantom”

Posted by on May 28, 2015

New artists and producers cycle in and out of SoundCloud just about as often as the tides change. For anything to stick it has to be better than “good,” it has to be better than “great.” There must be a trait of the artistry, or image that hook people because of it’s originality.

Since ØRKA is still simply a name with no face, it is his enchanting voice and mesmerizing production that have captured us thus far.

As the Weeknd moves further and further in to Max Martin’s pop world, perhaps it is time for a new powerful artist to fill the void of emotional warbling. The distorted vocals paired with soft guitar loops and crashing drums make an exciting listen all the way through.

Only two songs grace his SoundCloud right now, but ORKA is sure to be back soon with a follow-up, hopefully, as moving as “Phantom.”
