Alternative, Pop | Baza Testdrive Release “Roket”
Posted by VMan on August 25, 2021
Baza Testdrive are a brand new and genre-blending group of artists/ producers from all corners of the world. All creatives in their own right, this unbecoming trio come from various backgrounds, across hip-hop, jazz and other genres in between. Now based in Vienna, Austria the three have come together to unite specifically to form this group, and have wasted no time in releasing their debut single to the masses. Their new single “Roket” has an interestingly, almost cryptic vibe to it that is down right hypnotizing. This one will be on repeat for a while for me.

Alternative, Pop | Martin Weston Releases “Loose Knit Heart”
Posted by VMan on August 22, 2021
Martin Weston isn’t your everyday singer-songwriter. The up-and-coming London based musician possesses a potent motion in his storytelling with folk music running through his veins from a young age. His latest offering “Loose Knit Heart” has elements of acousitc, folk, and pop blended together which reminded me a lot of early 2000’s music in this space like Jack Johnson or Ben Harper. This track few on me a ton and well worth it. Martin explains the meaning behind “Loose Knit Heart’’ below. Stream the song above now.
“I wrote Loose Knit Heart after fully realising how brilliant a thing the perfectly crafted pop song is. Loose Knit Heart is my attempt at something along those lines, trying to add catchy hooks and melodies everywhere I could.
It’s an acoustic singer-songwriter, collaborating with an experimental electronic music producer called Tom Arniel. I came along with an acoustic pop song and he added a really textural groove by recording pots and pans in his kitchen. Making it was so fun.”
Alternative | GIDEON KING & CITY BLOG Drop “Whatchya Gonna Do”

Influenced by music legend Steely Dan and the cult following they created, King creates complex music with intricate chord changes and harmonies, just like his inspiration. The ultimate summer anthem, “Whatchya Gonna Do” is a real contender in the world of soul-pop. For fans of Stevie Wonder or Anderson Paak, the recently released single is the first piece of music I’ve heard by GIDEON KING & CITY BLOG but they’ll be on my radar moving forward. Armed with an art-pop, neo-soul, funk and jazz soundscape, the diverse new single is an energetic outlook at conquering the next chapter of life. Check out the new track above now!
Alternative | Boxteles Release New Single “Let Him Go”
Posted by VMan on August 17, 2021
UK based band Boxteles have released their new single “Let Him Go” and its a fast paced Pop Punk influenced record. Taking inspiration from the likes of Green Day, Blink 182 and The Offspring, Boxteles don’t hesitate to add their own flair to this one and it’s sounding great. Check out a quote from the band below and stream the new single above now.
“Let Him Go deals with the so often unspoken subject matter of abuse in a relationship from two perspectives, the abuser themselves and a close friend of the victim desperately trying to convince them how wrong the situation is. It shows the mindset that an abuser often has in the sense that they can feel that what they’re doing is simply protecting their partner rather than the reality of their controlling and manipulative behaviour. We feel that this is an important subject to start a conversation about.”
Alternative, Indie | The Ampersands Genre-bend via New Single, “The Pigeon”
Posted by VMan on August 5, 2021
Rarely does a name as abstract as ‘The Ampersands’ so accurately describe an act but upon exposure to duo Aaron McQuade & Jim Pace’s work, it just clicks. Every revelation of the band unearths five more layers beneath – whether a track that cycles between genres like verses or the incredible stage antics of the live shows, with The Ampersands audiences are always left with niggling hook: “and one more thing…” This guiding philosophy is on full display on the single ‘The Pigeon’. In the vein of the titular animal, the song takes flight through the worlds of Indie Pop/Rock, Alt. Contemporary Disco, sections layered to the nines, and moments of reflection carried by simple piano alongside vocals duelling with a gentle bass. An erratic structure follows in the dreams of the song’s hero caught restless between a desire and inability to move on. Between the song’s introspective and melancholic lyrics, optimistic and fun melody, and ever shifting composition, The Pigeon is a song that will keep listeners coming back eager to discover that last little thing they may have missed. This is the first piece of music I’ve heard by the upcoming duo but I am thoroughly impressed and intrigued to hear more by them (hopefully) soon enough. Check their new single out above now!
Alternative, Indie | Joe Fox & The Frantics Keep it “Cool”
Posted by VMan on August 3, 2021
Describing the meaning behind “Cool”, Joe Fox & The Frantics explain: “Cool is a summer anthem. All about strutting your stuff and doing your thing as we all re enter the world this summer.” I couldn’t agree more: this one has a total Summertime vibe to it and I can’t get enough of it. I’m already on my third listen! The emerging Los Angeles based indie rock band is only on the come up but the trio is starting to turn some heads across L.A. and nationally thanks to how easily they ombine their alternate loves for indie, rock and alternative music and create a sound that travels beyond the norms of the typical indie band you would hear in today’s world.
