Chill, House | Niykee Heaton – Bad Intentions (Matt DiMona Remix)
Posted by Mel on February 14, 2014
Since everybody is talking about it, I suppose I’ll just get it out of the way. It’s not going to happen for me tonight. It did happen for me last night though. Just kidding it didn’t. Anyway, the girl who I spent about 30 minutes perusing her Instagram this morning, Niykee Heaton, has had her song “Bad Intentions” remixed by the currently LA based producer Matt DiMona. I don’t really know much about these kinds of romantic songs, for obvious reasons (I just don’t really like them), but this has a nice feel to it. A large portion of the original is retained but he added more of a house groove to it. He actually says that you should, and I quote, “probably have sex to this song”. Should you? Well, as I have said many times before, I don’t even know how that would work. If you want to I guess you could. If you do, please tell me about it. I would love to know.

Preview, Progressive House | John Martin – Anywhere For You [preview]
Posted by Mel on February 12, 2014
Made famous by Swedish House Mafia, John Martin got notoriety for a reason and that’s because he has an incredible voice. His first solo work since doing the vocals for the two SHM songs and the “Reload” edit is here and it’s a good one. “Anywhere For You”, superbly produced by Michel Zitron, is a crossover progressive house and pop song that is ever so popular these days. This is in no way a unique song but it is done extremely well and that sets it apart from the many similar to it. Martin’s vocals with Zitron’s stand out production is just too good to pass up. Sadly, the release is not until April 7th so we’ll have to wait a bit to get our hands on it. Also, a guy and a girl kiss in the video so if you’re into that sort of thing I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. It actually takes place at 3:10 so pause it and enjoy.
Progressive House | Strange Talk – Young Hearts (Marcus Santoro & JAKKO Bootleg)
Posted by Mel on February 10, 2014
Marcus Santoro and Jakko, previously known as Jako, who prior to that was just called Jake-oh, and prior to that just went by his ethnically pure Brazilian name of Lucas Bojakowski, have teamed up to remix Strange Talk’s “Young Hearts”. We have been supporting both of these guys for a while now and their styles fit together perfectly, like a delicate cupcake and a sweet, succulent flower. That flower has slowly at first and then with increasing speed entered that cupcake and what we have now is the merging of each of their sounds. Marcus’ euphoric, uplifting style gels perfectly with Jakko’s euphoric and uplifting style, which in turn creates an uplifting and euphoric track. Must listen, must download!!!

Electronic | Ninth Parallel – Verloren
Posted by Mel on February 9, 2014
Once in a while I’ll come across a song that is just so incredibly well done that a little bit of wee comes right out of my willy. Born on the fourth of July, 1776 (according to his Facebook page), Ninth Parallel is the producer behind that latest song. “Verloren” is an exceptionally well written song with great progression. Its uniqueness amongst electronic music is rivalled only by that of a teenage girl that doesn’t work at either a restaurant or a mall. He lists his influences as Porter Robinson, Mat Zo and Madeon. If you were to put all those styles together, this track would be the result. This song takes you on a journey from start to finish. I’m going to have to give a quick shoutout to my homeboy Jimmy John and The Long Schlong for reposting this on Soundcloud because I would never have come across it otherwise. Ninth Parallel and this track in particular has been one of my happiest musical discoveries of the year so far. He hasn’t released many tracks but after one like this it is clear that he has a huge amount of talent.

Electro-House, Progressive House | Chris Avantgarde – Colours, Discovery
Posted by Mel on February 5, 2014

Chris Avantgarde is a relatively unknown German producer who, aside from the mysterious release on Size that has yet to come to fruition, has largely flown under the radar. Although his releases have been few and far between, he has been busy producing and is now providing us with a constant stream of tracks. “Colours” and “Discovery” are his first two songs he has given away. “Colours” is a typical progressive track lead by a big melody and “Discovery” is his take on electro house and the current festival sound. The drop in “Discovery” is not the most inspired but the breakdown in it is great.

Progressive House | Disfunktion & Chris Arnott – Right Now
Posted by Mel on February 3, 2014
Much like the hit love song of the early 2000’s, T Pain’s “I’m ‘n Luv (Wit a Stripper)”, Disfunktion, a Dutch progressive house duo has not been at the forefront of peoples minds recently. It has been a while since their last official release but that has now changed. They teamed up with Australian vocalist Chris Arnott on “Right Now”, their newest offering on Zouk Recordings. In 2011 and 2012, they put out a lot of remixes and bootlegs and became known for their uplifting, progressive sound. That didn’t hold up however, as they have gone for a harder, not as melodic or generic sound since then. They have merged those two styles and the result is what we have now, a song with the uplifting feel of their early stuff as well as an example of their newer work. It’s good to see them progressing as artists because, quite honestly, their productions were starting to feel pretty bland by the end of 2012.

Melbourne Bounce | The Chainsmokers – #SELFIE
Posted by Mel on January 29, 2014
At long last, the first original label release by The Chainsmokers is finally out. What started as a joke for one of their shows in December, eventually became what it is now. “#Selfie” is a melbourne bounce track that is very unique because it features a girl talking about stuff, stupid stuff. It’s hilarious. Only kind of though but it is clear who this song was made for, and that would be middle aged urban males. Or young white girls. The song is quite the departure from their typical style and even though it is a little gimmicky, it’s also an entertaining song with a pretty good drop. As you can probably guess, the music video consists of a whole lot of fan submitted selfies as well as the girl narrating as she gets ready or something. The girl actually looks exactly like I imagined she would from her voice, perfect. Just kidding she’s alright (8?/10). If you care enough to do so, I’m sure they would appreciate you purchasing the track on iTunes.
