Chill, Hip-Hop | Chance the Rapper – Lift Up
Posted by J_Salzer on July 23, 2012
Loyal Chance the Rapper fans will realize that this song is a few months old. But in my opinion, it did not get the blog love that it deserved. Chance shows off another facet of his game in Lift Up, where he croons smoothly and soulfully, reminiscent of Long Time II and Cordial Invite. The instrumental is slow and matches the vibe given off by Chance perfectly. The song was originally recorded with a group Milo and Otis, and was released on their album, The Joy, which is why it wasn’t seen on the blogosphere.
Albums, Hip-Hop | Macklemore – Same Love
Posted by J_Salzer on July 18, 2012
New Macklemore is always a treat, especially when paired with a beat crafted by his counterpart Ryan Lewis. But this….this is more than I could’ve expected from even Macklemore, my favorite artist in the game. In Same Love, Mackelmore gives his opinions on same sex marriage. With the huge steps being taken towards the equality of gays. While listening to this song, I couldn’t help but feel proud of the direction hip-hop is headed with Ben Haggerty at the helm. He takes on the hypocrisy of church and state in this song, and couldn’t do it in a more respectful, poetic way. Read Mackelmore’s full statement on the song after the jump. Wow, what a guy.
Chill, Hip-Hop, Videos | Alex Jordahl – All Things Go
Posted by J_Salzer on July 17, 2012
I’ve never been a fan of Alex Jordahl. Something about his music just never spoke to me. His manager always sent his releases to me, and I always listened, and my response was always the same: “Maybe next time.” Well, this time, it finally clicked. Everything about this song, the lyricism, the beat, the video, make it a complete success to me. The visuals, done by 15 year old video editing prodigy, Justin Escalona, match up perfectly with the overall vibe of this track. I hope this song can speak to you like it spoke to me, enjoy.
Hip-Hop | Bei Maejor – Party at the Crib
Posted by J_Salzer on July 16, 2012
All you need to know is that this is produced by Diplo and Bei Maejor. Traces of Diplo’s style are all over this, you can tell that he put in some serious work on. I originally thought this song was obnoxious after first listen, but then I got to the end and had the strange feeling that I needed to play it again. And again. And again. After my 4th listen, the song was etched in my brain for the rest of the night. And let me tell you, pretty girls don’t take kindly to dude’s whispering “Party at the Crib” all night. Grab the download in the description and wish me better luck tonight.
Hip-Hop | The Deep Boyz – Fast Lane (feat. Fly Ty)
Posted by J_Salzer on July 15, 2012
A name that many of you haven’t heard before, The Deep Boyz, have released their best(and latest) track to date. You haven’t heard the name before because this group hasn’t seen the blogosphere…ever. So you heard it here for ladies and gentleman. Destello, owner of the first verse, is shipping out to Afghanistan in a few weeks, so it seemed fitting to post one of his final tracks before he goes to serve our nation. The Deep Boyz have a style of street rap scantily seen on our college music blogs. Make sure you stop by Destello’s facebook and thank him for his service to our nation.
Albums | Meek Mill ft. Drake – Amen [Video]
Posted by J_Salzer on July 15, 2012
Meek Mill drops off the highly anticipated video off his highly anticipated mixtape(that’s alot of hype). The video features Meek living a lifestyle that we could all envy. Even though this song was dubbed sacrilegious by one Philadelphia pastor who I’m sure wouldn’t enjoy the sexy ladies in this video, I think it’s a damn good song, with some damn good visuals. Say what you want about Drake’s character, he is one of my favorite rappers in the game. I know that I might lose my “man-card” for saying that, but the fact remains that he has one of the smoothest deliveries in the game. He brings his all on the Meek track, all the while looking slightly soft in his jeans and lacoste polo. Whether you like this video of not, Meek Mill has a lot to be praising God for.
Hip-Hop, Videos | K.i.D – Hate [Video + Track]
Posted by J_Salzer on July 13, 2012
Newcomer to FNT, Kyle Harvey, AKA K.i.D. drops off his latest video creation for his fans. Taking a deeper approach to this song, Kyle spits his verses emotionally and soulfully over a Clams Casino produced beat. K.i.D has a sound that you can tell would fit right in along with mainstream rap. At some points he even takes a move from Drake’s playbook and starts singing, and damn does it sound good. I’ve had my eye on K.i.D for awhile now, and I think it’s about time Fresh New Tracks jumped on his bandwagon. Peep the video above and grab the download below.
