Cover, Hip-Hop, Rap | Kid Slim & K.Weezy – Tour Van Jams
Posted by J_Salzer on November 2, 2013
A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to see Kid Slim open up for Fresh New Tracks legend, SoMo. To put my experience lightly, it was cathartic. Kid Slim was an artist who I had contact with early in his career when his music was not blog-ready. To see his progression is one of the most fabulous things I’ve experienced. After I told him his music was not good enough to be on our site, I now tell you all that his music is quite good enough to be on this site. His latest mixtape, Freshman 15, was phenomenal, and his stage presence in undeniable.
One of my favorite segments from the show was when he and his DJ/producer K.Weezy, switched it up a little and hit the fans with a cover of “Best I Ever Had.” The girls, and myself, went crazy. K. Weezy did a phenomenal job on the strings and Kid Slim surprised everyone with a voice I would never have expected from the 6 foot 8 man. We have been blessed with a full version of their impromptu jam on last weeks edition of “Tour Van Jams,” which can be found above. If you’re in the mood for a couple of laughs, check out the cover of “I Like Big Butts” below. Kid Sim has come a long way, and he’s going to go a lot farther, so hop on while you can!
Chill, Hip-Hop, Rap | No Trace – Hear Me (Official Video)
Posted by J_Salzer on October 20, 2013
A group that I have been following for awhile, No Trace, released their newest visuals for a standout track off of their sophomore mixtape, The Wake Up Call. When I first posted their music, I posted it on the grounds of potential. Now, the two high school sophomores have made the leap from amateur to doing something special. However, they still have plenty of work to do to fully reach their potential. I have no doubt that they will reach it and we will see something special from them in the upcoming years. If you missed their mixtape, grab it here. Sorry I’m late on the video, but it was too good to go unposted. Keep checking back on Fresh New Tracks for the latest on this young group’s progression.
Chill, Hip-Hop | Jetpack Jones – Rendezvous and Guadalupe (Prod. by Cam Daniel)
Posted by J_Salzer on September 17, 2013
Fresh New Tracks faithful Jetpack Jones hits us with his newest beauty. And let me tell you, it’s a good one. Jetpack Jones’ flow is in top form on “Rendezvous in Guadalupe,” and in a game where everyone is copycatting other’s cadence and rapping style, Jetpack is rolling in his own lane. Take a listen below and see for yourself. And by the way, take a minute to appreciate Jetpack’s artwork, done by Eustance Francis, it is always phenomenal.
Electro | Krewella – We Go Down + Album Preorder
Posted by J_Salzer on August 27, 2013
Free Krewella is always a welcome sight in my mind. Although this isn’t necessarily free, I’ve told myself it is in order to justify my purchasing of their upcoming album. But fear not, for the preordering of their album needs NO justification, because there’s nothing better than Krewella. Seriously. I’ve had the joy of blogging the three knuckleheads since 2011 and they have been a joy to watch. So preorder their album, Get Wet, and you will get We Go Down for free. As for the track itself, it’s filled with classic beautiful Krewella vocals, a snarey build, and a huge drop. Exactly what you all need for your mid week raging festivities. Enjoy, and use it in good health, and thanks to our buddies at This Song is Sick for the sick premier.
Hip-Hop | Big Sean ft. Kendrick Lamar & Jay Electronica – Control
Posted by J_Salzer on August 12, 2013
This is the reason you don’t have Kendrick Lamar feature on one of your tracks. He WILL outshine you. This is the best I’ve ever heard Big Sean rap, yet he still gets shown up by Kendrick. K.dot tears the beat up for about 3 minutes before finally passing the flame for Jay Electronic to do his thing on it, and he does. But the limelight still belongs to Kendrick Lamar. He is the only rapper who can get away with calling himself the king of New York even though he grew up 3,000 miles away. But the best part about it, is that nobody is going to do anything about it, and they can’t, because Kendrick Lamar runs the rap game, and he won’t let any of us forget it. Pre-order Sean’s new album here but be aware that this gem will not be appearing on it.
Albums, Hip-Hop | KYLE – Beautiful Loser (Album)
Posted by J_Salzer on August 12, 2013
Often times when I post an artist’s music, it is the last we see of them. They could be a one hit wonder, not release anything else worthy of posting, or a million other things. KYLE’s presence on Fresh New Tracks has been anything but infrequent. He appears often, and he always brings the heat. Last week, the man released his first ever album, and let me tell you, it’s phenomenal. I’ve been a fan of KYLE’s music since the beginning of last summer, and I knew this 20 year old would be doing big things within a year. And he proved me right. KYLE is on the edge of blowing up, so hop on the bandwagon now before it explodes. Stream the album in its entirety below, and buy it on iTunes by clicking the link in the Soundloud widget, or here.
