Hip-Hop, Videos | Wiz Khalifa – Work Hard Play Hard [Music Video]

With Rolling Papers in the rearview, Wiz has promised to return to his K & OJ style of rap. Exhaling a promising breath with the release of his recent mixtape, Taylor Alderdice, Wiz keeps it OG on his new single, “Work Hard Play Hard”, but also showcases a mainstream hook. The first time I heard this track I thought it was biting a little bit to close to Big Sean x Wale x Diplo’s track, “Slight Work”, but it has since grown on me, even though his first verse rhymes are repetitive and elementary. It’s a happy medium. Something fans on both ends of the spectrum can enjoy. O.N.I.F.C. album in stores 8/28/12.

Hip-Hop | Kendrick Lamar – War Is My Love

Outside Mario Kart 64 and the occasional game of Wii ping pong, I’m not much of a gamer. I do however know that gamers love music. What better way to get you amped up for the release of Ghost Recon: Future Soldier video game which hits stores at midnight than a new track from Compton’s finest young gun. So while you’re waiting in line tonight with your Taco Bell party pack and 6 pack of Monster, let this one run through your headphones. For those of you non-gamers, still give this a listen cause we all know new K. Dot is nothing less than spectacular.
Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Moufy – The Preparation [Mixtape]
Posted by Grubeats on May 21, 2012
I present to you Moufy’s pre-EP mixtape, “The Preparation”. Releasing several of the tracks over the past few weeks, including his most recent releases, “F*ck Ni**as” and “Blunt Burn” Moufy has done his part to shun any doubters. I’ve always said Moufy’s storytelling ability is my favorite attribute he purvey’s as an artist. Like his deep emotional track, “Miss Newton”, Moufy yet again displays his ability to step back and analyze the hardships in his life throughout his pursuit of happiness in hip-hop on his new track, “Blunt Burn”. The mixtape definitely includes a variety of sub genre’s like previous projects from Moufy. Fine-tune your ears for this one affiliates, because Moufy’s improved lyricism and clever wordplay will have you constantly hitting the rewind button.

Hip-Hop, RnB | Sid Sriram – Elevate ft. Sonny Shotz
Posted by Grubeats on May 15, 2012
You may recognize the name, Sid Sriram, from his feature on The Dean’s List debut album, Generation X. Honing his powerful vocals from his bodacious hook on “Youth”, Sid slows it down and delivers a more soulful and almost trippy track. As expected, Sonny returns the favor, lending a feature verse on this new track. It’s safe to say there will be plenty more collaborative work from these two in the future.
Also, if my memory serves me correctly, I heard Sid was a roommate of Mik Beats (of The Dean’s List) freshman year at Berklee, which is where this relationship first began.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Mac Miller – Clarity [Music Video]

Mac is back with the always creative Ian Wolfson of Rex Arrow Films for his newest video, “Clarity” off his Macadelic mixtape. Mac’s last video, “Thoughts From A Balcony” didn’t quite cut it for me, despite my love for that song, as he decided to give director Justin Boyd a shot at the show. Lacking the creative edge we see time and time from Rex Arrow, this video is back to the standard I expect from Mac. Trippy, yes. Abstract, yes. Unlike any other of Mac’s video, yes. Macadelic, yes. Even if you aren’t particularly fond of the song itself, embrace the Mac.
Hip-Hop, Interviews, Videos | Logic – Young Sinatra: Undeniable [Exclusive Interview]
Posted by Grubeats on May 1, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”DexSkD8_v-s”/]
A couple weeks back I had the opportunity to meet Logic, interview him, and see him perform as the headliner at a benefit concert for the Dance For Paralysis foundation. Above and beyond that, Logic brought the new age of hip-hop into one of the most storied restaurant franchises, The Hard Rock Cafe, and left his heart on the stage. Prior to the show, I sat down with Logic and asked him anything and everything from growing up, to passion for Frank Sinatra, to Kevin Durant’s tweets, to his favorite color. For all those responses and more, watch the video above. What you may or may not extract from the interview is Logic’s sincerity, passion, love, devotion, appreciation and respect for all, molded into the articulate and professional young man and artist he has become. Truly the most personable and enjoyable interview I have ever conducted.
Hip-Hop, Videos | Azad Right – Alone ft. Luna Angel [Video]

With incredible success of videos in the past, Azad delivers the newest piece of visual work, acting out his emotional song “Alone” off The Time Is Right mixtape. Azad will be rereleasing The Time Is Right this summer as a deluxe edition, with this being the first video included. Many of you probably know by now Azad preaches emotions, stories, experiences, beliefs. He doesn’t just rap, he’s a poet. This is a classic example of Azad at his finest, heading to secluded valleys and abandoned train yards, Azad hits home with the true meaning behind this song.
