Hip-Hop | Tayyib Ali – Dreaming (Prod. by The Astronauts)
Posted by Grubeats on June 13, 2012
With his head high, Tayyib has been very eager to give his fans what they want. New music. Linking up with one of his top production duo’s, The Astronauts, Tay releases the latest single off his third coming mixtape. In the past they have collaborated on “High Definition”, “Tomorrow”, and “Never Change” and I think it’s safe to say we can expect more work in the near future. Tay spit me some of these bars acapella back when I interviewed him in Boston and I’ve been waiting for the final product ever since. Although the prince of Philly still has a way to go to be where he ultimately see’s himself, he’s got the demeanor and potential to make it there.
In other news, Tayyib and label-mate, Logic, are preparing to kick off their first even nationwide tour on July 7th, presented by Visionary Music Group. There’s no reason why you shouldn’t grab your tickets now! Full details after the break.
Hip-Hop | YONAS – Drive It Like It’s Stolen
Posted by Grubeats on June 11, 2012
YONAS has made waves lately with his remixes nobody has been able to touch. Most notably, our favorite Bronx street preacher flipped Foster The People’s chart topping hit, “Pumped Up Kicks”, which is on the brink of breaking 2,000,000 hits on YouTube. While YONAS’ attack has been rather stealth over the past few years, he’s beginning to garner the recognition he deserves with love from some of the most respected hip-hop sites such as XXL. Continuing with his string of amazing sampled tracks, Y-O brings it back to the blueprint and delivers a filthy new track over The Glitch Mob’s “Drive It Like You Stole It” which will act as the second single off his upcoming project. Consider this a verbal warning as YONAS shares a lesson on how to “Drive It Like It’s Stolen”. The Transition mixtape coming June 25th!
“This is not Mac Miller, this is that much iller, this is R.I.P. hipsters, I’m a backpack killer” – YONAS
Hip-Hop, Indie, Videos | Nick Luebke – The Run Around ft. TO [Music Video]

If you’re looking to take the fast track to fame, I recommend remixing “Call Me Maybe” 2 months ago. Wisconsin artist Nick Leubke did just that and has since accumulated over 330,000 hits on Youtube. Surprisingly, that’s not what caught my ear. I was introduced to this kid today and can’t deny his musical charisma. His sound is authentic and his voice is pretty decent. He picks up a feature from fellow Wisconsin MC, TO, while production comes from TO’s right hand man, Too Shade.

Hip-Hop | Mr. Focus – Best In America ft. Los
Posted by Grubeats on June 8, 2012
New cat on the scene hailing from Brooklyn by the name of Mr. Focus links with Bad Boy’s own, Los, for the first single off his upcoming mixtape. I honestly don’t know much about this kid so I’ll keep it brief, but as always, Los holds his own on the track with a fine feature. Below you’ll also find a new track Los let loose entitled, “Whoopin’ Ass” which is the signature speedy sound we’re accustomed to hearing from Los.

Lastly, Celtic’s fans, you’ll want this one if you don’t have it yet. As I sunk deeply into the crevice of my couch witnessing a horrific game 6 performance from my Boston Celtics, this song came on my iPod this morning and hit me with a shot of epinephrine. I’m all juiced up ready for game 7. Listen for the Celtics references in this track and remember, The Crown Ain’t Safe!
Hip-Hop, Videos | Timeflies Tuesday: Game of Thrones

I don’t get HBO, I’m too poor for that. I do however know that HBO rarely does wrong when it comes to TV series. I have yet to immerse myself into the medieval mind frame and become a fan of Game of Thrones. I was more of a Entourage/How To Make It In America type of guy. Regardless, everyone I know who watches Game of Thrones speaks as if it’s the best show on premium TV. Apparently Cal and Res are avid fans themselves as they dress in character for this weeks edition of Timeflies Tuesday. If you’re a newbie to the show and don’t know what Cal’s rapping about, you can still respect the production from Res.
Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Rook – Kingdom & No Church (Freestyle)
Posted by Grubeats on June 1, 2012
My dude Rook doesn’t swing often, but when he does he takes a big cut. His most recent track, “No Church (Freestyle)”, is a prime example of Rook jockin’ an industry beat. Maintaining an urbane tone with his words, the Cambridge, MA native punishes the 88-keys production with insightful and clever lyrics. The second track, “Kingdom” is an original, which will be featured on his upcoming mixtape entitled, MixedApe. With this, Rook does his part in putting New England on his back and continue to build his kingdom. It may be a long time coming, but who’s sleeping on Rook!?!?

Hip-Hop, Reggae, Videos | Vybz Kartel & Busta Rhymes
Posted by Grubeats on June 1, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”CITU4KH93aU”/]
For the avid Reggae fan, Vybz is a staple of any playlist and arguably the best at this finely tuned craft. Although he’s had his ups and downs over the years, the Jamaican born artist is one of the hottest recording artists to come out of the country. Oddly enough, my two Jamaican “breddas” from work turned me onto Vybz and since summer is upon us, I felt obligated to spread the good word. The video posted above is about a year old, but too fitting for the occasion not to post. In addition, Vybz recently linked up with Bussa Bussa for a reggae inspired hip-hop track not suitable for children under 17. How do I say this…
“Dis is naut sometin’ Mudda shud let Dawta list’n to. Dis dat “eat unda sheet” typa music’ bruddas be playin with pears to. Only dem Skettle bi jookin’!”
Purchase on iTunes: Vybz Kartel – Summertime
Hit the break to listen to the new Busta Rhymes x Vybz Kartel track, “Wine and Go Down”.
