Hip-Hop | The King’s Dead (The Dean’s List) – Hennessy At Cookouts
Posted by Grubeats on August 20, 2012
If you’re still asking yourself what exactly is going on with The Dean’s List and this whole “The King’s Dead” thing, wonder no more. A move to rebrand their group, The King’s Dead represents a more artistic distribution channel which is represented by their newest venture, Vérité Films. Aziz, Alexander, and Mik are no strangers to popping bottles, but the trio also enjoy a sophisticated glass of cognac. With Mik and Alexander on the beats, Sonny once again administers two thorough verses for his generation, highlighted by a hook reflecting their journey thus far;
“White girls and Kool Aid, Hennessy at cookouts, Old gangster movies, New neighbors move out, And we did it all with no conscience hopping fences up and go cra-zy, Were young enough to be stupid, don’t mean dumb enough to be la-zy”
The King’s Dead free album, Jerusalem, (which, despite the name, will not be a religious reflection in rap form) will be hitting your laps on September 17th and I think it’s safe to say we can expect at least one or two more singles as well as another video and plenty more artistic byproduct.

Hip-Hop | Skizzy Mars – High School Girls
Posted by Grubeats on August 20, 2012
Skizzy Mars has been on fire in 2012. Quality over quantity is certainly the motto (COQ). With his newest release, and spark plug for his weekly series “Happy Mondays”, Skizzy delivers “High School Girls”. While the search for what we want can often be indecisive, there’s no second guessing Skizzy’s path in life. As long as these high school girls serve as motivation to find perfection rather than a distractive discourse, keep enlightening us on the female teenage breed. With the highly anticipated mixtape, Phases, on the way, expect a lot more great music coming very soon.
Hip-Hop, Videos | C Dot Castro – Just For Now [Music Video]
Posted by Grubeats on August 18, 2012
[do action=”youtube” videoid=”iMl7QL0TRJU”/]
Castro has proven his worth over and over, slaying his last track “Worldwide”, which featured fellow #Rattpack -ers Logic and 6ix. Equipped with an artillery of automatic weapons, Castro can easily trigger his lyrical machine gun, but rather decides to keep it female friendly on this track and bring us a song about his temporary lady friend. With production from Official OB and camera work from GXL, the DMV is hard at work to put the #RattPack on the map. Although there has been no official announcement just yet, we predict © will be dropping his debut mixtape sometime this fall.

Hip-Hop | Tarik – Might As Well Confess (Produced by Dante CK)

FNT has been up on Tarik since the start and he continuously gets stronger and stronger in the booth. While ‘frat rap’ may be an overpopulated lane in today’s game, Tarik steers clear of the “party” rap by proving his talent by rhyming backwards on the track. Threatening to step on the trottle, Tarik shows he is fully capable of passing competition with his rapid fire rhymes. With a tentative fall release date set for his next mixtape, Tarik continues to keep his foot on the gas with high hopes of bringing content back to the receding genre.

Hip-Hop | Dillon Cooper – Notions (Prod. by Jay Da Great)
Posted by Grubeats on August 15, 2012
After grasping the attention of hip-hop heads across the blogosphere with the release of “Shadows” and “Shadows Pt. 2”, the 19-year old Brooklyn native is back with a brand new track. Produced by Jay Da Great, Dillon Cooper reflects on what his life has become since he broke onto the scene back in the spring. The R.A.D. general recorded this one a few nights ago and decided he had to share it with his fans less than 24 hours later. Although there’s no set date, we do know Dillon is working on his debut mixtape, Season 1, featuring production from Teddy Roxpin, Pat White, and of course Jay Da Great.
Hip-Hop | Azad Right – Wandering Eye ft. Maffew Ragazino
Posted by Grubeats on August 15, 2012
Ladies, ladies, ladies. Empty without them but all men face the fear of being tied down. LA’s rapping poet, Azad Right, kicks off his new series, “Get Right Tuesdays” with a track dedicated to the wonderful ladies in his life. Fighting to stay loyal while resisting the temptation of the grappling groupies. Personally, this is one of my favorite tracks from Azad in the past several months. Production from Kalby is on point, verses are impressive and truthful, the hook complements the verses perfectly, and the feature from fellow MC Maffew Ragazino maintained the bar.
