Hip-Hop, Videos | The King’s Dead – Mighty California [Music Video]

One of my person favorites off The King’s Dead debut project, “Jerusalem, is now here in visual form. Aziz and Alexander have always been involved the production of their visuals and now that they are represented by their independent film movement, Vérité Films, they played an even more instrumental role in the creation of “Mighty California”. Co-Directed/Produced by Elan Alexanberg of FTS Creative, The King’s Dead once again creates a spectacle of creativity.
“The “Mighty California” Video was inspired by Salvador Dali’s first movie “Un Chien”. The confusing non existent sense of time the film portrayed inspired Aziz Francois to create his own modern day version. A blend of Al Pacino’s “Scarface” and Dali’s “Un Chien” come together to create Mighty California. A Story about Aziz escaping two prostitutes who hold him hostage in a hotel, until he escapes
Hip-Hop, Videos | David Dallas – Ever Get The Feeling

FNT’s favorite rapping Kiwi, David Dallas, serves up the a new cut off his upcoming EP, Buffalo Man, due out on the 26th of this month. The first time D Dot landed on my radar was when he had young Tayyib Ali as a guest feature on his song, “Feel Like Oasis”. Since then, Dallas has made the move to the Big Apple and begun pursuing a career in hip-hop full time.

Still riding high on the release of “Thrift Shop”, Macklemore visits 106 & Park to drop a few new bars. Laced with his second hand Hungarian tiger possum jacket, the Mariner maintains his sense of humor while hinting to any and all major labels, they’ll need to bring a lot more to the table if they want to secure a bite of the #SharkFace leader. The Heist in digital stores 10/9, or you can pre-order a special addition alligator bound physical copy.

Freestyle, Hip-Hop | Elite – Grand Piano
Posted by Grubeats on September 22, 2012
The succulent taste of diced pineapples is difficult to resist. So difficult that Dreamville MC/Producer, Elite, decided to take a bite of the Cardiak beat. Although we’re accustomed to hearing Elite rap over his own beats, he adds his own originality to the track by reflecting on his “Grand Piano”. This ones not attached to any project in particular but Elite has assured me he has plenty of new music on deck.
P.S. That’s how you Instagram cover art.
Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Ground Up – Supernatural [Mixtape]
Posted by Grubeats on September 21, 2012
Ground Up have mastered the mixtape game. I’ve lost count of how many tapes deep they are at this point. Seven, Eight, Nine? More importantly, the Philly trio have stayed true to their colors over the years. In house producer Bij Lincs crafted more than 75% of the production on Supernatural, while Azar and Malakai flex their vocal chords with authentic, home grown lyrics fitting for both partying and vibing. Along with Bij Lincs, producers Teddy Roxpin and Mike Jerz also hold production features on this project. Here are some highlights below, but save your fingers some time and click download for the full tape.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes, Videos | The King’s Dead – Jerusalem [Mixtape]

After going through a fast few months of rebranding, The King’s Dead, a subsidiary of The Deans List is here to present us with their debut mixtape, Jerusalem. Upon first listen I was a bit skeptical of the new venture, with a heavy focus on the artistic aspect of their craft, I wondered if the new music would be too abstract for some of the early adopter Dean’s List fans. After listening through since Monday, I can now say that I only respect the art, but also recognize the progression of their music. Sonny Aziz never ceases to amaze with the depth and knowledge behind his lyrics, sometimes even leaving me wondering what exactly he’s talking about. Do you understand French? Mendoza Alexander have continued to adopt new sounds in their production. Infuse fragments of rock, electro, and even dubstep into their Dean’s List work and you have Jerusalem. It’s safe to say not one of their beats have even sounded similar.
Personal highlights thus far: “Sour Apple Rich Girls”, “Mighty California”, “Hennessy at Cookouts”, & “All Finished”. The King may be dead, but this Boston trio is very much alive.

Fret no more, Timeflies Tuesday is back. Although Cal and Rez have been continuously delivering new content week after week, the classic “Cal spits free’s while being fed random topics by the beat beast commonly referred to as Rez” TFT we were accustomed to is back. Sampling Eminem’s “Without Me” the fellas return to their roots with more fire than ever. They’re #ScotchedUp, are you?
