VMan’s Top 10 Tracks Of 2013
Posted by VMan on December 24, 2013
One day away from Christmas, and still 7 more days to go before the new year, so unless a banging track comes out within that time frame, these tracks stand. Obviously a lot of great music came out this year, and 10 records is too little to reflect the quality of sound that was released.
Beginning my contribution this year at FNT, I have found many tunes by known and unknown artists/producers that have captured my ears, and I’d like to dedicate this list to them. Although their name might not show up here, know that by being featured on a post alone, you’re on my ever expanding list. Music is infinity, and everyday hundreds to thousands of tracks are released that you will most likely never hear, but don’t limit yourself, keep an open mind, and be honest with your ears and your feelings! Enjoy, stay cool, and let’s make 2014 an awesome year! PEACE!
Louisiana’s own Joe Cool is one of my favorite rappers, definitely under the radar, though not unknown to the industry, I look forward to seeing Joe taking off in 2014. Look out for his upcoming project!
10. Joe Cool – New LA
Tune In Crew, the production duo from Alsace, France blew me away with this remix of Matisyahu’s “Live Like A Warrior,” in my opinion making the original sound better. I think 2014 will be a great year for them, mark my words!
9. Matisyahu – Warrior (Tune In Crew Remix)
Ayah Marar is one of my favorite artist at the moment because of her ability to stay herself, and keep it real, all while being featured on 2012 and 2013’s biggest album, 18 Months by Calvin Harris. This track off her solo album The Real has been on repeat in the car ever since I heard it.
8. Ayah Marar – Beg Borrow Steal
Robot Dentist was brought to my attention after winning New York’s EDC DJ/Producer competition and his remix of Ellie Goulding’s “Burn” is the best one out in my opinion. I pride the Robot for his ability to not having a distinct sound when it comes to his remixes, and still putting out quality work!
7. Ellie Goulding – Burn (Robot Dentist Remix)
EFIX, the producer from South of France is one that I am keeping my eyes on. The sound of “Silence” is exactly was I look for in music. His Mediterranean musical influences speak to me, and as a producer I think he knows what’s good for the soul.
6. EFIX ft Dr. No – Silence
Grammy nominated Duke Dumont is taking off, and “I Got U” is a phenomenal record, premiered just a few weeks ago on Annie Mac’s BBC1 radio show. Def check this one out if you haven’t heard it!
5. Duke Dumont feat. Jax Jones – I Got U
Stefan Biniak’s remix of Emeli Sande’s “Read All About It” is a beautiful piece of work, one of the greatest remix of 2013 if you ask me. Listen!
4. Stefan Biniak – The Read All About It Bootleg
Blood Orange aka Dev Hynes, who has written hits for countless artists over the years, deserves this number 3 spot with “Time Will Tell,” a timeless record full of soul that you don’t see from music nowadays. Note: he recorded and improvised the track all in one take, then layered it with ad libs.
3. Blood Orange – Time Will Tell
Released on OWSLA, KOAN Sound, Asa, and Koo, relatively unknown UK artists recorded an epic track. I was put on to it by Mach who showed me a preview before it was even released, and I can’t tell you how happy I was when I was finally able to listen to the full version.
2. KOAN Sound & Asa – This Time Around ft Koo
And finally at #1, which should not be even be a surprise at this point, as if you’ve been following the music, Rudimental has had an exceptional year, and this track in particular featuring Emeli Sande, the last record on the album, and the title track of the album “Free” is the TRACK OF THE YEAR if you ask VMAN 🙂
1. Rudimental ft Emeli Sande – Free
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!
