Mainstream Remix | Collin McLoughlin & Skrux – Castle Walls (Remix)

Posted by on January 7, 2014

Collin McLoughlin
2011 saw a unique collaboration between hip hop icon T.I. And vocal powerhouse Christina Aguilera. While the song went slightly under the radar in the pop charts it sported an emotional chorus with a stirring vocal performance from Cristina Aguilera that lends itself quite well towards a melodic bass rework. Enter Collin Mcloughlin and Skrux, who’s synth heavy interpretation of Castle Walls provides a melancholy take on the hip hop focused original. A soaring trance like arp guides the listener through a wave of heavy bass and glitched vocals, making this interpretation of Castle Walls a perfect balance between subtle beauty and overdriven low end.

This new record “Heartbreak” by SevnthWonder released in honor of his 5,000 folllowers on SoundCloud, a rework of Jhene Aiko ‘s “Comfort Inn,” is getting me through this slow Friday. Here’s what Sevnth had to say regarding the tune: “I wanted to capture the essence and the emotion I first got when I pressed play, and I hope that by adding some percussion and drums, I was able to do the track justice.” If you’re looking to relax and chill, this is the track for you. Must listen and must download!

DO SOMETHING

Drum & Bass, Electro | XXYYXX – End of Time (Rework)

Posted by on November 25, 2013

XXYYXX legit kills it – this has been my theme song for a while now. Ever since I saw him live at the DNA Lounge here in San Francisco and got to meet and chat with him, I’ve had a high level of respect for this (then 17, now) 18 year old producer. This is an unofficial song but it’s got to be one of my favorites. So minimal, eerie, and bass heavy all at the same time to submerge you into the crazy world of XXYYXX‘s style – you’ll fall for it instantly.

Deep House, Techno | Tittsworth vs. Drake – African Drake (Tittsworth Hold On We’re Going Home Bootleg)

The homie Tittsworth dropping some fierce, deep goodness for those of you who enjoy getting serious and maybe a little bit weird. The only recognizably Drake element in this techy rework is the vocal hook, which ebbs and flows in spacey fashion and generally takes a backseat to everything else going on. Dark, minimal, but unrelenting, this freebie is not one to miss if you fancy yourself to be of the underground persuasion.

Electronic, Glitch | Peter Frampton – Do You Feel Like We Do (Psymbionic Remix)

Posted by on November 20, 2013

Although funk is not usually a genre I write about, I couldn’t resist posting this Psymbionic remix of “Do You Feel Like We Do” by legend Peter Frampton. I used to love this song as a kid, and always heard my mother playing it. Psymbionic keeps the talkbox effects in tact, while working some funky vibes into this track. Psymbionic says that Peter Frampton himself heard the remix and loved his rework. If you’re lovin’ it too, its free to download!

Drum & Bass, Electro | Die Antwoord – Dis Iz Why I’m Hot (Five Suns Remix)

Posted by on October 21, 2013

Not gonna lie, this song gave me goosebumps when I thought about hearing it in a big room environment with the DJ blasting it from stage. Set for a festival, this is where this song belongs. Five Suns totally took Die Antwoord’s crazy style and flipped it for the masses. If you aren’t familiar with Die Antwoord, search Fatty Boom Boom in YouTube and then you’ll be acclimated. A high five for Five Suns though. Such a notable rework.
