Hip-Hop | Mobb Deep – Hell On Earth (Nolan The Ninja Remix)

Mobb Deep - Hell On Earth (Nolan The Ninja Remix)This remix seriously takes me back, feels like just yesterday it was 1996 and I was at my cousins house sneaking a listen of “Front Lines (Hell On Earth)”  behind my moms back. Back in the day Mobb Deep set the stage for my hip-hop listening through the 90s. With the release of their up and coming self titled album, “Mobb Deep”, looming over the heads of all, it’s no wonder that Nolan The Ninja mixed a track from one of the best duos in hip-hop. I will refuse to say this is better than the original, that’s insulting to any great hip-hop track, but I do enjoy the different styling to this track that Nolan The Ninja brings. Definitely worth the listen.

Hip-Hop | Asher Roth – Pop Radio x Pearly Gates

Asher Roth is back to offer up some new knowledge, first for his original single “Pop Radio”, followed by a freestyle over Mobb Deep’s legendary “Pearly Gates”. The former of the two is classic Asher, packed with assonance and witty rhymes that lighten up the more serious message within the song.

In “Pearly Gates”, Roth discusses his struggles within the industry thus far.

“Rick Ross can be a cop, Drake ‘started from the bottom’? No offense, I don’t wanna start a problem but come on, all I ever did was tell you I was a champ at beer pong.”

There is no doubt that Asher has to battle everyday with the image that his hit college music shows him in, however, as soon as people start opening their ears to how much substance is really behind each line, it will only be a matter of time before Ash takes off.

Be sure to download Asher’s new mixtape The Greenhouse Effect Vol. 2, out tomorrow!

Hip-Hop | Jay Electronica – Call of Duty (Modern Warfare 3)

Posted by on October 13, 2011

Jay Electronica took the hip-hop world by storm a couple years ago when he dropped “Exhibit C”.  You would have thought Biggie resurrected from his grave (which in a way he later did when Jay dropped “The Ghost Of Christopher Wallace”).  Since then, Jay has hit us with a couple more powerful tracks, “Shiny Suit Theory ft. Jay Z & The-Dream” & “The Announcement”, along with some nice features.  Other than those, Elec has been rather quiet which has had fans wondering what the New Orleans native has been up to.

After speculations were flying that Jay would sign to Diddy’s label, Bad Boy Records, after they released “The Ghost Of Christopher Wallace”, Elec turned and signed with the competition, Jay-Z, at Roc Nation.  As Jay-Z said about J. Cole, he is in no position to rush artists, but rather give them time to build.  Apparently he has the same game plan for Jay Elec as this single, “Call of Duty (Modern Warfare 3)” will be the first off his debut LP album,  Act II: Patents of Nobility, which may or may not drop this year.  The song features production from Young Guru and a spot from Havoc & Prodigy aka Mobb Deep.

As you can see above, there apparently is some unsettled beef between Jay and Diddy, as he took to his Twitter to send warning shots to the Bad Boy squad.  I’d presume this is the first major threat MGK has received since signing to Bad Boy earlier this year.  Personally, I don’t think MGK will do anything and Diddy isn’t the “bad boy” he once was, so I don’t really see this going anywhere.
