Electro-House | Julian Jordan & TV Noise – Childish Grandpa

Julian Jordan & TV Noise - Childish Grandpa
Childish Grandpa. When I hear that, I think of Benjamin Button. Never saw the movie, though I heard good things about it. I guess it is supposed to be an oxymoron of the child and a grandpa or just an old dude with a youthful exhuberance, someone who makes the point to have joie de vie no matter what, like my 92 year old grandpa who can still down bourbon with the best of them. The track draws on each artists’ style with a piercing, pitched lead, grinding saws, a searing guitar and crunchy distortion in the build.

Pop, Progressive House | Maroon 5 – Love Somebody (It’s The Kue Remix!)

My favorite song of all time is “Payphone” by Maroon 5. It is for that reason that I will always have a soft spot in my heart for them no matter what. I was already a fan of their original “Love Somebody” but DJ Kue made it that much better by adding a touch more energy to it and a great drop. I have had this on repeat since I first heard it.

Hip-Hop | Asher Roth – Pop Radio x Pearly Gates

Asher Roth is back to offer up some new knowledge, first for his original single “Pop Radio”, followed by a freestyle over Mobb Deep’s legendary “Pearly Gates”. The former of the two is classic Asher, packed with assonance and witty rhymes that lighten up the more serious message within the song.

In “Pearly Gates”, Roth discusses his struggles within the industry thus far.

“Rick Ross can be a cop, Drake ‘started from the bottom’? No offense, I don’t wanna start a problem but come on, all I ever did was tell you I was a champ at beer pong.”

There is no doubt that Asher has to battle everyday with the image that his hit college music shows him in, however, as soon as people start opening their ears to how much substance is really behind each line, it will only be a matter of time before Ash takes off.

Be sure to download Asher’s new mixtape The Greenhouse Effect Vol. 2, out tomorrow!

Dubstep, Review | Roughmath – Buzzkill Remixes EP (Ft. Archie Cane, Jarvis, Koven, & Skit)

Roughmath - Buzzkill Remixes

I have been a huge fan of Roughmath ever since his days as Noir, but today I bring you an awesome conglomerate of remixes of Roughmath’s last EP, “Buzzkill”. Kicking off this remix EP is Archie Cane. I wish he would release more tunes because his style is rarely seen. The into has a bit of a Garage feel to it, but the drop is filthy per usual. My first listen to Jarvis’ remix left me on the fence, it may have been where I decided I would start listening to it. After my second listen with better placement, the track finally came together in my ears. Jarvis’ defined epic for me.

Koven on the other hand catches your attention no matter where you click play. He is still one of the dirtiest up and coming bass producers out there. His drops are full of some the heaviest progressions you will find and Maksim taking point on the vocal turned out to be a match made in Heaven. Last but certainly not least is a remix from our friend Skit. Lately Skit has been pushing out some beautiful Hip-Hop and R&B infused bass tracks that have been revolutionizing how I view each genre. His remix of “Cold” however takes us back through his skills as a Dubstep producer, to say the least it is quite impressive. Roughmath assembled one of the best Remix EPs I have heard in Dubstep in a while. Maybe this will set an example for others to come.

Hip-Hop, Preview, RnB | Miguel – Sure Thing (fwdslxsh Remix)

Posted by on June 8, 2013

Miguel - Sure Thing (fwdslxsh Remix)Fwdslxsh (forward-slash) has had the key to my R&B soul for months now. After W8 introduced me to his great music, I have made note to check everything he puts out. This is just one of his new previews and it is one of the best remixes of Miguel I have heard. The instrumentals make this track, the vocals don’t even matter. No word on the release of this track yet, but I highly recommend following Fwdslxsh.

Dubstep, Glitch, Trap | Carvar and Clock – Miskatonik EP

Ever since the surfacing of their first tune, Miskatonik, Carvar and Clock have been the talk of the town. Gaining all kinds of support from all of the big names, these guys went from nothing to something in a matter of weeks. To be honest I had never seen anything like it before, but after releasing their single for free it was signed to Firepower Records soon after. With that came some of the most unique and amazing remixes of the tune as well. We have seen some showings from Joe Ford showcasing what he is capable of, but this remix brings out the meaner side in him. When I first heard the preview to this remix my jaw dropped, and still does everyone time I do. The second drop gives me goosebumps like no other. MUST DIE! has been cranking tunes out left and right like it’s nobodies business the past few months. He is an endless library of tunes and this remix just proved that he is going to be creating some of the most unique music in 2013. I haven’t heard many succesful metal/dubstep fusion remixes of any tunes, but this one is easily the best. Also on this EP is another single from the duo called SYGYZY (good luck trying to pronounce this one). I wasn’t to amazed with this track, because it reminded me too much of Miskatonik, but nevertheless it’s still a good tune.

Hip-Hop | Fortune Family feat. JohnieB – Gravity (Video)

Posted by on May 6, 2013

Boy, have I missed these two. Although I have been in constant communication with Reef, I have been missing the music of he and his partner more than I am willing to admit on a public website. But fear not, the Fortune Fam is back for seconds. When they broke up, I knew it would only be a matter of time before they ran back into each other’s arms like lost puppies because they missed seeing me so eloquently write about their music. Now I’m sure that’s not the only reason, but I’m sure it is one. Their come back effort does not miss a beat, and picks up right where they left off, no doubt Reef has been practicing in his shower waiting for the day where he and Hop reunited. Welcome back to the blogosphere boys, we missed you.
