Hip-Hop, Videos | J. Cole – The Cure (Prod. by J. Cole)

Posted by on July 27, 2012

With an overwhelming industry shift over the past couple years, Roc Nation’s prince is finding himself having difficulty keeping up with the expected “standard” for new music.

“I ain’t drop nothing in a while because I feel like we in this digital age where sh– moves so fast,” he said. “N—-s got songs every week, you can’t even keep up with this sh–.” – J. Cole

Confidently taking a step back to plot his next move, Jermaine recently debuted a new verse from what’s presumed to be his next single, “Chaining Day” at DJ Spynfo’s Mic Check in NYC.  Showcasing the ice around his neck  both visually and verbally, J. Cole admits he has succumbed to the “rap star” image but takes an oath to return to being J. Cole, not just “that guy”.  Above is a picture I took of J. Cole while he was performing at the University of New Hampshire back in the spring, shining his $J,esu, spi, ece.   When I think of J. Cole, I think of that skinny rapper/baller wearing a black T two sizes too small.  Do I care if he’s conformed?  Do you care?  As long as his music doesn’t reflect his growing wallet, I could care less what he’s wearing.  Will “Chaining Day” force weak rappers into a noose?  Only time will tell.

*UPDATE* – Minutes after I published this post, Cole just dropped a new cut sampling The Throne x Beyonce’s “Lift Off”.  The Cole World CEO does some venting on “The Cure”, reassuring his fans he still has a lot to prove and there is plenty more fire on the way.

Watch/Listen to “Chaining Day” verse below!

Moombahton | J. Cole – Werk Out (OVERWERK Remix)

Posted by on June 21, 2012

I’m pretty sure OVERWERK has a thing for remixing tracks with “werk” in the title as this would be his second remix in the row in such a fashion (the first being his excellent remix of Hyper Crush’s “Werk It”). That makes sense since his name is.. well, OVERWERK, after all. I was unsure what to expect of a remix by him of J. Cole’s “Work Out” but given that everything OVERWERK touches turns to gold, I knew I was in for a treat and boy I was. Just listen for your self. This remix needs to be in your music library.

Hip-Hop | Voli – Sound Of Love ft. J. Cole

Posted by on June 13, 2012

Dreamville, Dreamville, Dreamvilleeeeeee.  Two of Dreamville’s finest, Voli and J. Cole come together to create the sound of love.  The single will be yet another off Voli’s album dropping later this summer, The Wall, which is incrementally becoming one of my most anticipated projects of the year.  Production credits can be split between the two multi talented musicians, as the flip Huskey Rescue’s original, “Sound of Love”.  Earmuffs kids, this one’s for the grown ladies.

Hip-Hop | King Mez – The Allure ft. Drey Skonie (Prod. By J. Cole)

Posted by on April 11, 2012

Sifting through today’s submissions, I caught eye of this track from King Mez, “The Allure”, highlighted by the fact it was produced by J. Cole.  Sure the name associated drew my initial attention, but the beat alone won’t sell itself, even if it is from a Grammy nominated Rapper/Producer.  With that being said, I was thoroughly impressed by King Mez’s delivery.  A breath of Fresh air Heir (cue the hashtag to support the movement #FreshHeir).  Evidently an intelligent artist, Mez provides thought provoking rhymes leaving me wanting more.  An alluring introductory.

Mez’s association with Cole is still uncertain at this point, but looking ahead to see additional production off his upcoming album, My Everlasting Zeal, will feature that of Commissioner Gordon, Soundtrakk (Lupe Fiasco’s “Kick Push” and “Superstar”), Omen (Dreamville), 1120, and Prolyfic, it appears Mez has aced the art of networking.  In addition, he appears to be from Raleigh, NC, a mere hour and five minute drive from Jermaine’s hometown of Fayetteville (yes, I Googled it).

Hip-Hop, Rap | 360 – “Everywhere and Back” + “Woulda Kid”

Posted by on March 27, 2012

360 has been letting loose track after track in preparation for his debut album coming next Tuesday, April 3rd.  The NYC hot spitter released the title track, “Everywhere and Back” a couple days ago and  have to say it’s one my favorite tracks to date.  “What Goes Up”, which was produced by J. Cole was fire as well as his remix to “Mr. Blue Sky”, but more importantly he is bringing it on every track.  The second track, “Would Kid” features scratches from DJ Wonder and was produced by The Dark Nyte.  #EveryWhereAndBack April 3!
