Alternative | Drake Ft The Weeknd – Crew Love (Gemini Cover)
Posted by Mach on August 2, 2012
This cover has led me to do research on Gemini, turns out this is him singing on this track. Gemini actually sings on most of his music which I had no idea it was him (because he sounds really close to a woman). On this cover, Gemini used much less autotune than he usually does. Although he sounds like Florence and the Machine, he truly does have an incredible voice. The instrumental work is always something to try to compete with, his Piano work is beautiful. This is a pleasant surprise from Gemini.
Hip-Hop | SplYt – Catch 22 (Mixtape)
Posted by J_Salzer on May 23, 2012
I had never heard the name SplYt(split) before until a few weeks ago when his manager dropped something in the chatbox, I had time, so I gave it a listen and wasn’t impressed. Sure, the kid has some flow, and the beat was decent, but I had no idea it could lead to a project like this. Every beat is carefully chosen, and each one if murdered in its own respect. Keep in mind that SplYt is new to the game, this is his freshman tape, and he shows loads of potential. Of course, there are some things that he could do better, but it would be a crime not to post this. This kid is going places. I’ve had enough with the over saturation in the rap game, and I can’t stand MCs that don’t do anything unique, but this kid just has straight talent.
Chill, Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Beau Young Prince – Dream Catcher (Mini-Mixtape)
Posted by J_Salzer on May 14, 2012
After a brief hiatus from the making of good music, actually, let’s call it a hibernation. Beau Young Prince has returned with a vengeance. Recognizing that he’s been off his game, Beau took the necessary steps to get back on track with this mini-mixtape. Although the tape is only six songs deep, it features Beau showing off some serious versatility. He tackles some faster paced beats, keeping up with the higher tempo with ease. And flows over the chill, slower beats without missing a beat. Admittedly, one track, Wild Things Are, I have no idea what the hell is going on with, but it’s a pretty cool beat.
I found it interesting that Beau named the tape Dream Catcher, because after his lack of quality music in the past few months, it shows me that he’s back, and dedicated to the dream that so many artists are vying for. You. All artists are out to gain fans, because they know that they’re the ultimate key to their success, and Beau knows that he’s been off his game, but he’s back. Last night, I asked Beau why he chose a bed for the cover, and he said because that’s where dreams occurred, and he really liked the image his guy brought him.
Bootleg, Progressive House | Henrik B & Rudy vs. Kaskade – Leave A Light On For My Eyes (Buck Bootleg)
Posted by Mach on May 9, 2012
Having Axwell play his bootleg of ‘Save The Punk’s Heart,’ Buck has has been powering out bootlegs. A Junior at Middlebury College, this newest of Buck’s really caught my eye, he was right to think that the vocals from these two tracks are a great fit together. He was telling me how his friends love his bootlegs so much, that they expect him to make one everyday, haha. Now that is not out of reach, I think his current method is working very well for him. Below this new bootleg are a few of his older works to give you an idea of creative formula, enjoy.

Dubstep, Electro-House, Review | Sharam – Our Love: The Remixes
Posted by Mach on March 27, 2012
These remixes were not hyped up very much, but I have been waiting impatiently for their release. The first remix in the set is nothing special in my opinion, no offense to Sharam, but remixing your own track isn’t always a good idea. However, the other two remixes on this set are worth the download. The remix Heren did is crunchy Electro-House, and it is a big track. Heren took a Zedd approach, that is just the vibe I get from this track…#shavestep. The last remix is what I was really waiting for. Dirtyloud are two Brazilian dubstep producers known for their unorthodox dirty drops. On this remix they keep the pace of the intro going, you expect a certain way it will drop, but your wrong, surprised, and pleased.
FYI | The Problem With… Buying Facebook “Likes”
Posted by A on March 11, 2012
In 1963, American novelist Kurt Vonnegut published a book entitled, “The Cat’s Cradle” which explored the confrontation between technology and morality. While many critics dismissed the book on the grounds that it was far too satirical, Vonnegut shared an idea that wove itself into the fabric of our social subsconscience. His idea was simple, “In this world, you get what you pay for.”
In the blog world, the amount of Facebook “likes” you have is directly proportional to your perceived worth. People are visual, and when they want to compare one artist’s size to another, they often use Facebook “likes” to determine an artist’s total reach. Conversely, for artists, Facebook “likes” can be the difference between getting booked and not getting booked. Purchasing “likes” increases “groupthink” a behavioral science theorizing that the probability of any individual adopting a trend or artist increases with the proportion who have already done so. Simply put, the more “likes” your Facebook page appears to have, the more likely that someone will take the time to discover your page.
Despite their motivations, buying Facebook fans is counterintuitive. There are many services, like BuyRealFans.com, that offer pricing packages depending on how many fans you’d like to purchase. In their advertising, they promise a “100% money back guarantee.” What they don’t tell you, however, is that many of these supposed “fans” are bots and fake profiles. I recently looked at a certain artist’s page that I suspected of purchasing likes to see if I could spot any fake profiles. Here’s what I found:
Interesting to say the least. Take a look at those who are commenting and liking on the post below. Specifically at the first visible comment. I don’t know about you, but “Big Jilm” and his “funding” comment look suspicious to me. He’s either a man of few words, or he’s clearly a fake profile. Further, take a look at those who actually “liked” the post. John Gavin, check. 22 people, check. Free Ipad 2 Click Here, questionable. I’ll let you draw your own conclusions.
If you’re an artist who buys Facebook “likes” you can rest easy. I won’t be calling you out today. However, there is a service (NextBigSound) that I’ve embedded below that allows you to track an artist’s analytics with relative ease. Just plug in your favorite artist and let the debate ensue.
Although dated, Vonnegut’s central theme still holds true today. As we continue to advance technologically, we will inevitably face moral and ethical dilemmas. Fans want to support artists they believe in and trust. If you’re an artist that’s currently buying Facebook fans, reconsider your marketing plan. Your fans aren’t stupid, don’t treat them like they are. If you’re not where you want to be in relation to how many fans you think you should have, then make better music. That’s what it all comes down to. Besides, you get what you pay for.
