Bass, Chill, Electro, Hip-Hop | GoldLink – Ay Ay (Gravez VIP) (ft. Drewsthatdude & Scolla)

Posted by on January 10, 2015

DMV based rapper GoldLink has been quiet, not releasing much new music aside from some demo tracks on Christmas day. Here to fill the void is the powerful trio of artists, Gravez, Drewsthatdude, and Scolla. The production style stays true to what we’ve come to know from Gravez, however, Drew and Scolla give it a smooth R&B twist.

It will be exciting to see Gravez transform his remix success in to something greater in 2015. Here’s to more collaboration between this talented roster of musicians.

Chill, Hip-Hop | Chet Faker x GoldLink – On You

GoldLink is currently one of those artists that I just cannot get enough of – and fortunately for me he just keeps releasing one gem after another. The unlikely yet surprisingly compatible pairing of the rising hip hop star and ubiquitous Australian vocalist Chet Faker definitely delivers, with a beautiful, catchy chorus courtesy of Faker and some honest rhymes by GoldLink, wrapped up with some soulful keyboarding, perfect for those lazy Sunday mornings having breakfast in bed (“breakfast”) with your main squeeze.

Events, Hip-Hop, Review | SXSW: GoldLink at Soulection’s “Sound of Tomorrow” Showcase

Posted by on March 27, 2014

On Saturday March 15th at precisely 2:50pm in sunny Austin, Texas the young and mysterious rapper by the name of GoldLink stepped upon the stage at Barcelona. A showcase aptly titled the “Sound of Tomorrow” had a bill filled with the futuristic sounding producers on Soulection’s roster. GoldLink was neither a part of Soulection’s imprint, nor was he a producer…so as I and the numerous other audience members asked ourselves what he was doing up on stage, he slowly began to gather himself and show us why.

GoldLink’s music is best described by Chuck Allen of Way Less Effort: “Of all the new sounds that have popped up in the industry, from the soul-sucking gothic southern grime that the UK and South Florida have been dropping, to the glo’d up trap of the Chi, this new “future bounce” sound really stands out. It doesn’t throw it all the way back to boom-bap like the “New New York” ish that Pro Era has been pushing, and it isn’t on that entirely digital production tip either. It mixes the buttery grooves of 90?s R&B with classic hip-hop breaks to give it an essence of nostalgia, and then turns on its head with bouncy, forward-thinking production from the likes of Kaytranada and Ta-ku. Add that to Goldlink’s roller coaster flow that fills every pocket of the dynamic instrumentals he tackles, and suddenly your head and shoulders are bobbing and you don’t know what happened.” *1

This future-bounce movement was prevalent all the way through his performance as he went worked through his short SoundCloud catalog, spitting out his semi-viral hits such at “Creep”, “Playah”, and at-the-time-unreleased song “Planet Paradise”. I was entranced by his energetic stage presence and ability to work a crowd whom was not at all expecting to be seeing a rapper on stage.

GoldLink has remained unseen by the internet world, but with his forthcoming mixtape, The God Complex set to drop in a matter of days, I can’t imagine his face avoiding the limelight for much longer. Enjoy, GoldLink’s newest release “Planet Paradise” produced by Louie Lastic, and be sure to prepare yourself for SXSW next year, since it’s never too early to start planning!

Electro, Hip-Hop, Rap | Galimatias & Joppe – One Step Back (ft. GoldLink)

OneStepBack-Art

After proving he could conquer a “typical” hip-hop beat, spitting atop Kendrick Lamar’s “The Heart Pt. 2”, GoldLink is back in his production wheelhouse with the dreamy-deephouse sounds of Galimatias and Joppe. The two Danish producers have been making music together for some time now, and luckily they connected with the Virginia native through the future production label, Soulection.

The song has already amassed an astounding twenty thousand plays in the first 24-hours, and shows no signs of slowing down! Although, “One Step Back” will not be a part of GoldLink’s upcoming project, The God Complex, it’s a very strong addition to his musical catalogue. Enjoy the free download and be on the look out for an official release date of The God Complex sometime next week.

Electro, Hip-Hop, Rap | BMB. – Playah (ft. GoldLink)

BMB - GoldLink - Playah

After a straight month of recording, perfecting, and experimenting, we see GoldLink re-emerging from the woodworks. His latest offering, “Playah”, adds an entirely new dimension to the Virginia rapper’s persona. Not only does it detail the lifestyle of GoldLink growing up, but it also pushes forward a more socially conscious aspect of his music.

In a recent interview over at the Brightside Network, GoldLink said that “nobody is making moves like [him],” so be sure to stay tuned and see exactly what those moves might be.

Hip-Hop, Rap | GoldLink – Electronic Relaxation (prod. Ta-Ku)

GoldLink-ElectricB

Some of you may already be familiar with Virginia rapper, GoldLink, because of his previous track “They Don’t Like Me”, which was featured on FNT a few weeks back. However, if you are not yet “hip” to the spitter, have no fear. I couldn’t imagine a better introduction to GoldLink’s music than the versatile track “Electronic Relaxtion”.

The instrumental was constructed by chillwave producer, Ta-Ku, and despite the complexity of the beat, GoldLink manages to control his delivery and play off the intricacy to make an astounding sound. Although he’s still finding his stride within his music, the amount of raw talent and promise that spews out of every bar shows just how bright of a future that GoldLink has ahead of him.

Hip-Hop, Rap | GoldLink – They Don’t Like Me

Posted by on July 24, 2013

goldlink they dont like me
Over the past few months we’ve seen music take numerous cities by storm. First, Seattle’s movement lead by Macklemore, followed soon by a Chicago campaign spearheaded by Chance the Rapper and Chief Keef. Now bloggers and fans wait anxiously, all in hopes that their hometown is the next to take over. I, admittedly, am one of those bloggers. However, I know the DMV is next to pop where as most other people are just hoping.

Today I bring you “They Don’t Like Me” the newest song from Virginia resident, GoldLink. Although I can be quick to place an artist in a box with similar sounding acts, I can’t quite put my finger on GoldLink’s sound. His delivery and cadence control is that of a rap veteran, with each line punctuating the Skywlkr beat with force.

“They Don’t Like Me” is just a taste of what this kid can do, so stay tuned for some of the full-length tracks that he’s got coming, because from what I’ve heard it won’t be long before GoldLink is a name that will be popping up on a regular basis.
