Electro, Trap | Killah Kalam & E-V – I Wanna See That

djEV - i wanna see that

Although Labor Day Weekend has come to a close, that is no reason to stop the party. DJ E-V and Killah Kalam have teamed up to release this insane trap/twerk mix, perfect for any dance-occasion. The track is heavy on the 808s and surely has a underlying message of the class struggle in our bureaucratic system. No, but actually they just want to see that ass twerk.

Kalam & E-V’s EP Time Bandit is due out shortly and is one to definitely keep your eyes peeled for.

Progressive House | Fenech-Soler – Last Forever (The Chainsmokers Remix)

When I close my eyes at night I see two things — Drew Taggart’s hair and that overweight black lady in the McDonalds drive thru who called me “honey” two years ago. I’ll never forget you Shaquanda. As for Drew Taggart and Alex Pall, they have just released another free remix. While I may joke around when I post their music and in that interview I did with them, I feel I should take a second to be serious. These two, as The Chainsmokers, have without a doubt been the best injection into the house scene that anyone could have asked for. They can make a gritty track, an upbeat indie-house track, and they have been known to do a more progressive song from time to time. They have done this all without falling into the trap of producing generic songs that all sound the same, as most producers do (except for you Avicii, I love you man). Not many people can get over a million collective plays on Soundcloud in only five or so months which just shows how great they are. So, without any further delay, I present to you their new progressive remix to Fenech-Soler’s “Last Forever”. This is my favorite production of theirs in a while and highly suggest everybody except for that waitress who put a dirty slice of lemon in my iced tea a few weeks ago to take a listen; she doesn’t deserve it.

House, Preview | Disclosure – F For You (Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs Remix) [Preview]

Disclosure-

Mark my words: 2013 will go down as the summer of Disclosure. Settle has already taken the blogosphere/world by storm, so it’s not terribly surprising that high profile remixes are beginning to pop up.

With “F For You,” the consummate niche-occupier/genre-defier better known as TEED takes an already great song and ramps it up about seven levels. Where Disclosure’s original is tight, polished, and crisp to a fault, TEED’s is spacey, a bit dark, and hypnotically stripped down. Damn. I might like this more than the original, and I like the original quite a bit. Keep your eyes peeled for a release date — not shocking/almost fitting that this went up without one.

Hip-Hop, RnB, Trap | KR$CHN – Stolen Moments EP

KR$CHN - Stolen Moments EP

KR$CHN has been on a roll with releases over the past few weeks, and today I bring you his awesome new EP, “Stolen Moments”. The EP opens with “Kush Calling” which more than so, speaks for itself. KR$CHN takes a cool approach on this track, kicking it of with some dope verses and ending it beat strong. The second track “Headbandz” was posted a few days ago and is by far one of my favorite tracks on the EP. It has a great flow that you cannot help but get addicted to. “Dead People” made me curious, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect with how it opened with the hook, but it ended up taking my ears by storm. The beat is dirty, but it is the verses that really reflect the mood that KR$CHN must have been trying to put out. Last, but certainly not least, “Cold Moments” is the only R&B track of the EP. The vocals are beautiful, taking you through a long hallway to a silky red bed. The word “sex” best describes this track. KR$CHN blew away my expections with this EP, these are 4 of the most incredible tracks to be compiled on an EP such as this. Keep your eyes peeled for more from this guy, I believe he is just getting started.

Update: KR$CHN has recently increased the number of tracks currently on the EP!

Indie, Interviews, Progressive House | ASTR – Operate (The Chainsmokers Remix) + Exclusive Interview

Posted by on June 20, 2013

artworks-000050858290-zkvjfa-t500x500 It has been roughly four months since my hand slightly grazed my sister’s friend’s thigh. Coincidentally, it has also been about four months since I first heard of The Chainsmokers. Since then, my hand has been many places but none as sweet as that. I have also watched The Chainsmokers grow from two decent looking guys to two excellent looking guys who make awesome music. Their first remix that got my attention was of Jonsi’s “Around Us”. That track… it made me feel for the first time. Sara B, the girl who had a crush on me in eleventh grade, I get you now. The Chainsmokers taught me how to love. Since then I’ve learned to take it, roll it up into a ball, toss it in the air and if there’s not a steady current of wind, I smash that into oblivion.

Picture yourself walking through the city late one night when you see a beautiful girl sitting in a coffee shop eating a plum. She is facing outward toward the street and the store’s walls are glass so you two can see each other. You want to go talk to her but you can’t find the door to get in. Not being able to figure out where the entrance is, you go up to the glass and relentlessly stare at her. Upon closer inspection you realize that she is in fact eating an oddly shaped apple not a plum. “Why are you eating an apple?” you mouth to her. You can hear her say through the glass while turning the apple “no no, this is a plum”. After seeing the flesh of the fruit it is indeed a plum.  You then turn around to go home and find $20 on the ground.

The combination of slight disappointment, confusion, and joy that night brings is what I think of their latest remix.

We also had a chance to talk to them about life’s most important questions, such as “If you were to suddenly wake up in the middle of the night for seemingly no reason and upon looking to the nearest wall saw a hole that has never been there before the size of the middle, cardboard part of a roll of toilet paper, would you stick stuff in it?”. Click past the break if you want to laugh, cry, and be inspired.

After breaking 180,000 plays on his breakout Scream & Shout remix, Dotcom has created more than just a buzz in the dubstep community. We’ve been keeping our eyes peeled on his twitter account & it looks like you can expect some big collabs from Dotcom in the near future. His latest release is a wildcard moombah remix of Rihanna’s “Talk That Talk” and as usual it’s got the perfect amount of the original melodies blended with Dotcom’s filthy drops & edits. Do yourself a favor and download this one.

Events, Review | Kaskade – It’s You, It’s Me Redux Tour

I’ve finally washed ashore from the sensational tidal wave that was Kaskade’s It’s You, It’s Me Redux Tour. Everything you heard about drowning in sweat, auditory immersion and house deeper than the Mariana Trench was no exaggeration in reference to what I experienced that Tuesday night at his kick off show in Dallas. I’ll do my best to recreate the atmosphere (hehe) from that show but when it comes down to it, you just have to close your eyes in dive into the music yourself. Conveniently, I’ve provided the San Diego set in it’s entirety for your listening pleasure so all you need to do is press play and come with me on my journey to the most intimate underground electronic show you’ve only seen in your wildest dreams.
