Dubstep | R Rated #12

Posted by on January 19, 2012

Seeing as SOPA is making everyone go nuts over censoring, this picture seemed well suited. Sharing my own opinion, no way it will pass, so everyone relax, haha. Since last Wednesday, Sev and I have come across tons of R worthy tracks, so why limit it this week? Starting from softest to straight up filth we start with iNexus, yet again making it onto this post, and a few much needed remixes of Skrillex. Next we move onto a tight remix of Nero’s Reaching Out and Eminem giving lesbos nightmares again. The Bolivian Marching Affair has a sick original, using the same vocal samples the favored Zomboy used on his EP. Next is a little treat from 12th Planets new EP, which he collaborated on with Skrillex and Kill The Noise who has been on fire lately. The next few tracks get a little serious at this point. X Kore dropped a crazy new track, using some synths I have never heard before, definitely making a name for himself. It has been some time since Millions Like Us has dropped some real filthy s***, better late than never. All credit goes to Sev on finding the new Muzzy remix, chillin to some laid back guitar, then BAM! Last track is something SOPA would need to censor fast before every Disney loving child has to have their toys burnt and the lights left on at night. By the way, does anyone know what the f*** a wobble wednesday is?

Hip-Hop | Chris Webby, Kid Ink, Macklemore, Flo-Rida

[do action=”youtube” videoid=”fXyyoNHX5_Q”/]

Probably my favorite track off Webby’s debut EP, There Goes The Neighborhood, the Ninja takes his ’95 Altima to an abandoned building where he shows just what he does.  As the budget gets bigger, so do the videos.  Webby exercises his ability to deliver punch after punch while flowing with a purpose.

New joint from Kid Ink produced by Ned Cameron.  I’m speculating in saying this may be the first single off his debut album?  If not, the first official leak off his next mixtape.

This track dropped days ago, but I never got around to posting it.  Finally, Macklemore is getting recognition (in my book, a likely pick for one of XXL’s 2012 Freshman).  Here he joins Wale & Emelio Rojas on Tony Williams track, the first major collab I’ve seen from Macklemore.  While he held his own on this verse, hopefully we’ll see more coming from the Seattle star soon.

Mr. Dillard, aka Flo Rida hops on Rihanna’s infectious radio smash.  Shocking.  Appears Flo couldn’t resist giving the Calvin Harris beat a shot because it’s clearly not an official remix.

Dubstep | Bassnectar Divergent Spectrum Remixes

Posted by on January 12, 2012

Finally Bassnectar has unleashed the beast with these remixes. Not only are there remixes on this EP, but the eight minute banger Color Storm as well. There is a good variety of artist on the EP and each track is worth a listen. When most of these tracks were first previewed in the Color Storm Mixtape it made the wait for the releases that much harder. The Color Storm track has to be the best track on here, because of its great transitions and unique sounds incorporated into making this colorful and eclectic track.

DO SOMETHING

Hip-Hop, Pop | Jared Evan – Traffic Light (Prod. By !llmind)

Posted by on December 31, 2011

Jared Evan has always been interesting artist to me. He has never fit in any one genre and that is probably why I like him so much. His music ranges from Hip Hop, Pop, and Rock and yet always has a consistent feel to it. His latest single “Traffic Light” is no exception. The track will be featured on his upcoming EP that will be produced entirely by !LLMIND and Ill Factor dropping the 1st quarter of 2012.

Dubstep, Glitch | Skrillex Feat. Sirah – Bangarang (Cryptex Reglitcharang)

Let the Skrillex remixes begin. In the upcoming weeks you are going to see a ton of remixes of Skrillex’s new tracks from his EP, so brace yourself. Cryptex starting it off right with a dope remix. He does a good job of incorporating his own style into all of his tracks, which is why I always enjoy listening to his material. Here he gliched up Skrillex’s new track Bangarang and at the same time mashed in a few of his old tracks; Skrillex – Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites, iSquare – Hey Sexy Lady (Skrillex Remix), edIT – Headbanger’s Ball (Unreleased).

Dubstep | Coven – Wake You Up EP

Posted by on December 23, 2011

I will start out by saying I am disappointed in Skrillex’s new EP, but you can’t blame the guy. He is obviously just fulfilling what is left of his contract with Big Beat and saving his good tracks for his own label. Coven on the other hand dropped a shorter, but way better EP. Coven is a new artist to me, after I heard his official remix of Teknian’s Ruff. His style is interesting, unlike a lot of dubstep artists, it sounds like he really tried to make each track coincide with each other. He uses a heavier bass-line, but each track as a whole isn’t what you quite expect. Insect Flick is an incredible track. The others on the EP are also great, but this track really shows Coven’s artistic value to music. I also really like Roughmath’s remix on this EP, it’s nuts. All in all, Coven assembled a sick project.

Dubstep | Skrillex Bangarang EP

Posted by on December 23, 2011

The long gruesome wait for new material from Skrillex is finally over. The Bangarang EP has finally released, and although it doesn’t have all the tracks most people were looking for including myself, it is better than nothing. The worst part was finding out that Summit was actually the track everyone thought was called “Breathe”. I felt that “Right On Time” was just a track to take up space, because it was just an overall terrible track in my opinion. At one point throughout the track I felt like I should be doing the Melbourne shuffle, until the BPM finally changed in the middle of the track.

Kyoto is the track that stands out to me most as the top track for this EP. Although the many versions of Ruffneck Bass were leaked well in advance of their releases, this version blew them all out of the water. Devil’s Den was something different, and Wolfgang Gartner’s style could be seen through this track. I can’t blame Skrillex for putting these tracks out seeing as he just completed over 300+ shows in a year and managed his own label, but hopefully the next EP shows us why he was nominated for five Grammy awards. Here is the link to grab it on BEATPORT.
