Hip-Hop | Top 10 Hip-Hop Albums of 2013

Posted by on December 20, 2013

Best of 2013 hh albums
Ah, yes. It’s that time of the year again and although I’m sure your iTunes and Spotify playlists have been inundated with “Top Albums, Videos, Remixes, Puppy GIFS” etc. I figured, “why not add to the mix?”

With that go get ’em attitude in my mind, let me lay out some ground rules for how I decided and debated on this list. First off, this is the top hip-hop albums of 2013, that means no “Acid Rap”, no “Blue Chips”, no “1017 Thug”. There will be a list and a time for those to make their appearance, however, this collection of projects is strictly for artists who released their music in the form of a paid album.

I’m looking forward to sharing this collection with you all, but to be honest, I’m even more excited to have you all criticize me, and make me feel like a worthless nobody because of the albums I missed. So, be sure to toss in some offensive comments below!

Let’s get right in to it…

Hip-Hop | Mac Miller – Missed Calls (ID Labs/ “Nobody’s Home Yet” Remix)

Posted by on July 9, 2012

While Mac dropped the visuals for one of the most popular tracks off his debut album, Blue Slide Park, just last week, Pittsburgh producer, E. Dan, of ID Labs tossed together a remix to “Missed Calls”, well, because he can.  Although ID Labs produced more than half of Mac’s album, Ritz Reynolds can be credited with the original production on this track.  E. Dan amps up the beat but doesn’t waste time rearranging Mac’s  love-story laced lyrics.  If the original was too slow for your liking, try this remix.

Hip-Hop | Mac Miller – Of The Soul (Remix) ft. Posdnous & Raekwon (Prod. by ID Labs)

Posted by on March 11, 2012

There’s no doubt Mac has a cosign and respect of several of the games OG’s.  Here is evidence of just that.  Mac’s reference on the original Blue Slide Park track,

“A little soul like De La do, they say I’m new
It’s nothing but some Deja Vu” – Mac Miller

was smooth enough to land a feature from De La Soul’s “Posdnous” as well as Wu’s own Raekwon.  Mac goes acapella with a new verse to cap the remix off and it just may be one of his dopest ever.  Soak up this soul because Macadelic is expected to be a eclectic blend of funk, hip-hop, & whatever else Mac is feeling.

“Musically, it’s definitely a lot of different stuff than what people are used to. It’s honest. I think that I just let my guard down and opened up,” he continued. It’s a process to do as an artist to get to a point where you really open up in your music and really speak your mind for real. So I think this is my step in that direction.” – Mac Miller on ‘Macadelic’ Mixtape

Hip-Hop | Mac Miller – Jerry’s Record Store

Posted by on January 11, 2012

Can’t help but cheese from cheek to cheek when you get a new joint from Mac Miller. This is some of the first music we have heard from him since the release of Blue Slide Park. The song has a really chill sound to it and is dope nonetheless.  Mac even called it ” the illest bars ive spit in a long time.”  This track was recorded earlier tonight and delivered fresh off the vinyl.  Fitting, considering it’s dedicated to Mac’s favorite record store, Jerry’s, in Pittsburgh.

If you missed Mac’s last video for “Of The Soul”, catch that below as well.

Hip-Hop, Videos | Mac Miller – Of The Soul [Music Video]

Arguably the hottest new artist of 2011, Mac Miller refuses to let any dust accumulate atop the Nike’s on his feet, so he’s brought us fresh new visuals to kick off 2012.  Directed by the Rex Arrow (duh), “Of The Soul” is one of the more soulfully mellow tracks off Blue Slide Park.  Will Mac experience some deja vu in 2012 and see the same level of success?  You be the judge.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes | Mac Miller – Black Friday (Mixtape)

Posted by on November 26, 2011

Mac dropped this free mixtape in light of Black Friday. As he stated in the tweet above, this tape is full off old unreleased music from his younger days. Taking into consideration that the music is pretty old there are still a handful of nice tracks on this. Definitely worth the download if you’ve had too much of Blue Slide Park.

Hip-Hop | Mac Miller Interview with Ruby Hornet

Posted by on November 7, 2011

On the Eve of Blue Slide Park, Mac sits down with Ruby Hornet to talk about his experiences leading up to today. It’s crazy to see how far Mac’s come since we first started posting him here on FNT. Regardless if you’ve got a hold of the leak, considering supporting one of the realest artists in the game today by pre-ordering Blue Slide Park on I-tunes.
