Nightlife has went through a re-birth, re-branding himself from his former moniker MJ. The Chicago via Paris rapper has had his fair share of succesful singles in the past, working with Twista, Future and GLC just to name a few. Now under nightlife, the artist is getting ready to release his project ChicagoParis, and releases the first single “Good Shit”. The trippy single features TDE’s Ab-Soul and features impressive back-and-forth wordplay throughout. Enjoy!

Hip-Hop, Rap | Kush Kelz Recruits Key! For His Latest Single “I Think The Neighbors Know”

Posted by on September 6, 2016

Kush Kelz is an upcoming New Jersey rapper who recently dropped his EP “I Think The Neighbors Know”. The track has a trickling piano melody that swoons you into the trap with Kush as paranoia sets in and he begins the think the neighbors know what he is up to. A day in the life with the rapper tells it all on this Myles William produced cut. Purchase his new EP from iTunes, it features Jim Jones, Ab-Soul, Key! and Kap G while production is handled by fellow New Jersey cronies Myles William and Dolla Baby.

Hip-Hop, Mixtapes, Rap | Vic Mensa – Innanetape (Mixtape)

vic mensa - innanetape

Now that the blogosphere has had time to recover from the massive shockwave that hit it upon the release of #INNANETAPE, I figured it was time to give my spin on things.

The tape starts with a sound reminiscent of Kids These Days, a live drum drum pattern and the screech of an electric guitar. However, the former KTD frontman does not play it safe by any means and is constantly pushing sound boundaries throughout the tape. Mensa calls on board fellow Chi-town representatives, Rockie Fresh, Chance the Rapper, and BJ The Chicago Kid to add some Midwest flare to the tape, as well as TDE conglomerate, Ab-Soul.

From top to bottom this project is one of my favorites of the year so far. Check out the stand-out tracks, “Orange Soda”, “Hollywood, LA”, “Holy Holy”, and “YNSP”, but be sure to give the full tape a listen!

DO SOMETHING

Hip-Hop, Videos | Smoke Again – Chance the Rapper feat. Ab-Soul (Video)

Posted by on April 28, 2013

Nothing better to hype up your already highly anticipated mixtape than a brand new video and a brand new track. Chance had the opportunity to link up with the likes of illRoots (directed the video), Ab-Soul, and Skrillex on his latest trip to LA, and I had the opportunity to hear some of the stories. Let’s just say I hope Chance goes out to LA again soon. The song itself is just another example of why Chance is the next big thing. Chance’s lyrics are on another level, evidenced by “lean all on the square, that’s a fucking rhombus,” as some body who failed geometry, even I could appreciate that line. The video, filmed by the great people of illRoots, is original and awesome, and captures the mood of the song perfectly. Check out the video above and be on the lookout for Acid Rap, April 30th.

Hip-Hop | Joey Bada$$ – Day In The Life (Prod. Harry Fraud)

Joey Bada$$ -

This was a long overdue collaboration between mic killer Joey Bada$$ and the incredible, Harry Fraud. Joey Bada$$ will be featured in XXL Magazine’s 2013 Freshman Class, along side of Schoolboy Q, Trinidad Jame$, Ab-Soul, Logic, Action Bronson, Kirko Bangz, Travi$ Scott, Dizzy Wright, Angel Haze, and lastly Chief Keef, the “11th Freshman”. I think he is more than deserving of making the list. Just the other day someone I introduced his music to told me his rap style reminded her of MF DOOM. Remembering how right she was, I listened closely to this track and I swear I can hear a bit of MF DOOM in Joey Bada$$. “Day In The Life” is a great track, a collaboration that should happen more often.
