Chill, Deep House | Editors – Honesty (Dinner Date Remix)

Editors - Honesty (Dinner Date Remix)
Simon Shout’s deep house moniker, Dinner Date has been on fire since his first remix hit the interwebz and went number 1 on hype machine two separate times. He takes this 2013 tune from UK band Editors and adds his own chilled out deep house spin on it. Distorting the vocals, and reforming the percussion with some of his own, Dinner Date (probably a great one) mixes in subtle key play and guitars to create a soooooothing new tune form the Editors’ original. It’s another free download from the Miami based producer, so grab it now for your Sunday into Monday blues.

Trance | Andrew Bayer – Once Lydian

Andrew Bayer - Once Lydian

Andrew Bayer is genius. His album “If It Were You, We’d Never Leave” was my favorite full length LP from 2013, even after it was all said and done with others from Mat Zo, Feed Me, Avicii, Daft Punk and Sub Focus. He has returned to releasing club oriented singles, most recently with “Perth / Merth Mobile”. There are no weak segments of the tune, beginning with a thumping opening sequence that transitions into a magnificently crafted melody layered with big, reverbed piano that Arty uses so well. Bayer proves why he is one of the best once again with “Once Lydian”.

In 2013 West-coast hip hop label, Dirty Science gained instant notoriety as one of the the genres premier labels when they birthed Denmark Vessey & Scud One’s album Cult Classic. Now in 2014 Dirty Science continues this habit of dropping dope full lengths by blessing us with the album E&J, by rapper Johaz and hyper-prolific producer Exile, who together form the group Dag Savage. For those that are familiar with Exile’s prowess on the MPC, you already know to expect, soul-laden, head-nodding beats that will leave you feeling like Sunday morning. For those that are just getting up on this music then Blu, Fashawn and Aloe Blacc will help serve you up a great introduction.

BANKS, one of the hottest vocalist vixens in the game right now, just released her latest single, “Brain,” produced by the musical magician Shlomo himself. A follow up to her absolutely stunning London EP, this track opens with her signature sultry sound, then proceeds to showcase her vocal versatility. If BANKS didn’t totally rock your world in 2013, then keep an eye out for her now because she’s about to make some serious waves. You can catch both Shlomo and BANKS on tour this spring.

Progressive House | AN21, Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman – Rebel

AN21, Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman - Rebel

It first got a lot of buzz March last year with a live premier by AN21 in Montreal on the One Last Tour, and then a radio premier on Steve Angello’s essential mix, but has since remained largely dormant. AN21 himself has been pretty quiet since his 2012 album “People Of The Night” alongside Max Vangeli, but this year has stated he will be bringing more music and more solo efforts. Dimitri Vangelis & Wyman had a late surge in 2013 with their “POTN” remix and then “Silver Sun”, but have just been waiting on tracks to be released, like the all too often requested “Payback” alongside the bossman himself, Steve Angello.

“Rebel” is the next best thing with an upbeat progressive sound with well crafted builds and crescendoes grounded in a punchy bass line and rumbling horn. Man would it be crazy to be able to listen to Steve Angello’s hard drive for a few hours, the unreleased treasures he must have in there, one cannot even begin to imagine.

An official remix of Ellie Goulding’s “Goodness Gracious” is the third release in January so far for The Chainsmokers and with their first original coming out next week, they are having an incredibly strong start to the year. They say this is their favorite remix they have done in a while and understandably so because it is one of their best productions. A lot of people say that Drew and Alex of The Chainsmokers are nothing more than one good looking guy and one okay looking guy (Alex) but that is clearly not the case. They had a huge year in 2013 and they are on pace to have an even bigger 2014. No word yet on the release date.

The homie Christian Deshun hit me up last night and asked if I wanted to premiere his latest track “Right.” and my response was ABSOLUTELY. As an ambassador to the NWLA movement, Christian landed top honors for 2DopeBoyz’s mixtape of the year in 2013, and he has no plans of slowing down in 2014. With this latest record, you’re going to hear a side of Christian you’ve never heard before: his singing voice, and it’s pleasantly nice. I’ve been keeping tabs with Deshun for about 2 years now, and his sound is always maturing, and growing in dimension. If you’re a hip-hop head, and recognize great hip-hop when you hear it, you’re going to want to press play. Get familiar with Christian Deshun! This is a must listen!
