The DMV has made quite a statement recently with new talent springing up right and left. The influx of new musicians to watch certainly doesn’t stop with Young Money Yawn. The 20 year old emcee takes on a more “street” side of Virginia, and speaks about his come up over a variety of different production styles.
Those who follow the DMV hip-hop scene closely might recognize the Board of Administration’s, Black Cobaine feature, amongst others. The tape is packed with eighteen original songs as well as a few bonus tracks, and aside from the speaking interludes getting a bit repetitive, the project is a very strong body of work. The guys behind such wisdom as “If she is good on top, don’t ever take that for granted…” and “you should seriously consider creating some alias, maybe like mr jerkalot or something” (they said that to me in an email like 3 months ago don’t worry about it) have released yet another song, this time a remix to Strange Talk’s “Young Hearts”. You have undoubtedly heard at least some of their stuff before so I’m not going to explain their style again because I have been doing it every couple of weeks for months now. This has their classic sound and is once again a great remix. Also, they have broken their string of official tracks and released this one for free.

Young Dutch phenom, the man responsible for hits like “Pallaroid” and “Flute“, Thomas Newson is back with anther tune that is a decidedly different tone and style from his previous productions. “Don’t Hold Us” is paired with the progressive house branch of Armada, Zouk, where this tune will work well within his discography and the label’s. Newson has collabs on the way with Bassjackers and Blinders, so don’t expect him to quiet down anytime soon. “Don’t Hold Us” is slated for release February 24th, so be on the lookout for it then.

Portland’s very own PropaneLv drops off a remix to Young Thug’s “Stoner” track mixed in with footage from Lv’s first headlining show in Portland on Feb 1st. And yes, it’s local. If you haven’t purchased “Varsity Blues” you should. Shame on you. It’s really good. You can pick it up here.

Marcus Santoro and Jakko, previously known as Jako, who prior to that was just called Jake-oh, and prior to that just went by his ethnically pure Brazilian name of Lucas Bojakowski, have teamed up to remix Strange Talk’s “Young Hearts”. We have been supporting both of these guys for a while now and their styles fit together perfectly, like a delicate cupcake and a sweet, succulent flower. That flower has slowly at first and then with increasing speed entered that cupcake and what we have now is the merging of each of their sounds. Marcus’ euphoric, uplifting style gels perfectly with Jakko’s euphoric and uplifting style, which in turn creates an uplifting and euphoric track. Must listen, must download!!!

The Enigmatic NYC producer Le Youth pairs a glitzy visual -complete with 90s glam models- with his ‘Dance With Me’ single. The tune is focused around a disparaging sample from “No Scrubs” by the legendary R&B group TLC. What’s interesting about this tune is that the sample got chopped up and flipped into an inviting message void of all hater-ish vibes. No money? No problems, lets dance. Still living with the rents? Don’t pay your child support? Forget all that mess, get out on the dance floor and bring it! Dominique Young swoops in at the end and sows it all up with her up-dated version of a Left-Eye verse.
