Hip-Hop | Chicago MCs, Vic Mensa and Kanye West team up on their new track “U Mad”

Posted by on April 10, 2015

I think I’m more mad that this song hasn’t been in my life for longer than the 30 minutes that I have been listening to it non-stop. Classic Kanye production with fantastic verses from the youngster Vic and his counterpart Mr. West. Shouts to Stefan Ponce, Smoko Ono, and Mike Dean for help on the track as well. Get used to hearing this one a lot.

Next Friday marks the beginning of one of the best, still most underrated music festivals in the business: Austin City Limits. Held outdoors in the state capital’s glorious Zilker Park, ACL marks the end of festival season, offering a lineup that pulls artists both big and small from every corner of the planet. On that note, ACL also does a great job at showcasing the underdogs who traditionally end up scoring top slots in big-name festivals the following year. Now a contender in the two-week festival category, you can expect to hear more great music than you’ll know what to do with over the course of the festival, not to mention you’ll be overwhelmed with tough decisions of overlapping artists. Well, lucky for you we picked out a few of the artists you reaaally shouldn’t miss if you end up making the pilgrimage down south. And for those stuck at home watching the live stream, you can use this to your advantage, too. See which artists made the first cut after the break.

So remember that dude who produced Vic Mensa’s huge track Feel That? That same dude, Smoko Ono, is now moving onto bigger and better things. Case and point with his brand new track featuring the Chicago songstress and Most Dope artist, Njomza. The track starts up slow but really gains its character with the build up. Is this is any indication on what Smoko’s upcoming EP, Slackin & Mackin, which will be released this fall, then it’s definitely going to be big. Peep the song below and get affiliated with the man crafting a lot of the beats behind Chicago hip-hop.

Hip-Hop, Rap | Joey Purp – Don’t Stop

Posted by on May 31, 2014

By this time, most of you should be familiar with the Chicago rap-group by the name of Save Money. After the success of frontman Chance the Rapper, the floodgates were opened for the Save Money team. Vic Mensa soon followed in suit, achieving a coveted spot on the XXL Freshman cover, and slowly making his way to the mainstream.

Now, all eyes are peeled waiting for the next talented artist to burst out of the Chicago bubble. Could it be Joey Purp? Quite possibly. He provides an exemplary juxtaposition of Chicago drill music, combatting the violence in the city and doing his part to make a positive impact. While at the same time his voice does not blend in with those of Chance and Vic, making it more interesting and less recycled.

Watch above his newest offering, “Don’t Stop”. I could make a pun here about replaying the song and not stopping it, but I’ll refrain. You’re welcome.

The talented Njomza returns with a brand new track “Explore You” along with a music video,   in which she takes us to Hippyville, USA with a Woodstock-themed video. If this is your first time hearing of Njomza, she has an upcoming album in the works o on Mac Miller’s label REMember, along with projects with Vic Mensa and Rockie Fresh, and quite frankly, I’m excited for all of that! Blending reggae riddims and soulful vocals over jazz composition makes for the perfect vibes! This is by far a must listen!
