Bass, Electronic | Dark Cat Releases “Finite EP” On Fox Stevenson’s Label: Cloudhead Records

Posted by on June 9, 2016

This Iceland soloist Dark Cat has been making his rise for quite some time. He finally got one of many breaks to come and have come: locking down a spot on the very selective Fox Stevenson label Cloudhead Records.

The 5 track experience of Finite EP has a beautiful color scheme, and beautiful music that fits the mood. You can see why Fox Stevenson picked up on this, it’s this smooth, milky, cloudy sound mixed with awesome genres all in one experience. Top notch.

You can find more info on Dark Cat here.

I have been following Alex H for some time now. Known for his glowing melodies and inspiring compositions, Alex H has decided to take a spin on Kaskade’s timeless 4AM. He has added himself to a roster of artists who have attempted to share their creative vision for this tune, however, this one stands out as pristine. Close your eyes, and happy travels.

Hip-Hop | The Farrow Drops “Snap Tho” Produced By Taylor Mayde

Posted by on May 31, 2016

Minnesota rapper, The Farrow, brings back that early 2000’s Neptunes bounce with his new single “Snap Tho.” Chanting boastful lyrics between thunderous “ohh’s” and “yeah’s”, the timing is perfect for this record to make waves this summer. The Farrow is a recent signee to Sony RED, with his debut single “I’m On A Wave” tearing through New York’s top nightclubs and being featured this month on Hot 97, Power 105 and more.

Currently based in NYC, the Farrow has a refreshing take on music paired with a creative style that expresses life and fame through an energetic musical lens. In a time where content seems impersonal and lacking in creativity, The Farrow’s candid perspective cracks the lid on an untapped genre itching to be heard.

Albums, Hip-Hop, Rap | Atlanta Native, Kelechi, Drops Debut Album “Before The Quarter”

Posted by on May 27, 2016

Sometimes you hear an artist and are 7-seconds into the first song, you’re on to the next. Sometimes you hear an artist for the first time and are instantly drawn in. Whether it be the beat, their flow, the lyrics or the message, sometimes you just get that feeling you found something special. A few years back I stumbled across STNDRD, a hip-hop duo out of Hotlanta. Kelechi & Phay, two very talented artists were the talent behind the label. They were clearly motivated (as I quickly confirmed after seeing and hearing “We Want It All“). They were cultured and proud of their diverse backgrounds. They were confident, fun, and full of energy. Most importantly, they could RAP.

Fast forward 2 1/2 years, both artists are still representing STNDRD, but pursuing parallel solo careers. Kelechi was the recipient of $50k after being recognized as the winner of Green Label Sound’s “Open Call” contest. Identified as one of the next talents on the brink of explosion, Kelechief invested that nickel lump right back into his debut album, Before The Quarter. Making valuable industry connections and cosigns along the way, Kelechi has been earning his key and building bridges along the way. “Before the Quarter” is Kelechi’s breakout. 10 tracks, from raw to delicate, Chief flexes appropriately, but never lacks a message. Enjoy the album stream and cop your own copy on iTunes if those first 7-seconds hit you like they hit me.

Bass | Listen To The Western & Eastern Culture Collide With Koinu’s “Gainax Bounce”

Posted by on April 21, 2016

Kpop and Japanese culture are coming together stronger than ever – Koinu’s sound is at an abstract intersection where popular styles of western electronic music and the recent global explosion of the tradionally eastern music trends collide.

Genres like Kawaii and artists like Porter Robinson have showcased snapshots of Western culture, in particular North America, slowing getting turned on to eastern music trends. Over time, it’s only natural that something like Koinu would be born our of these colliding cultures. I suppose we got lucky Varien filled in the gap, given his experience and deeper themes his artistry typically displays.

Koinu’s latest “Gainax Bounce” is an interesting ratio of bass and eastern vibes – a unique notch in the belt of releases the solo artist has pushed in the last few weeks.

If you like stand-out meaning and effort behind a sound, Koinu is your guy.
