Trap | Ookay – Starting Over (Lookas X Enzo Picardi Festival Trap Remix)
Posted by Middy on September 28, 2013
This song is about to blow up. The festival trap remix game was fist brought to fruition by Carnage and has taken on a life of its own in the past year and a half. However many just sound like chopped up festival songs with 808s. Lookas & Enzo Pikardi raise the bar with this remix that was played by the ultimate dance music tastemaker, Tiesto on the MainStage at TomorrowWorld last night. This remix is not to be missed, especially for your Saturday night.

Electronic | Bixel Boys – Black December EP
Posted by VMan on September 27, 2013
Bixel Boys bring the funk! So dirty, I would be surprised if these tracks don’t get played at TomorrowWorld. The boys have been receiving support from Fedde Le Grand, Viceroy and Goldroom, whom have been praising their groovy dark innovative sound. If I were to describe their 2 track EP Black December which includes “Black December” and “Red October,” I would say they’re a mix of deep house, trap, and funk, but one thing’s for certain you’ve never heard something like this before. I’ve been spending the past 3 days with all Australians who put me on to this sound, and I’m digging it. Press play, and enjoy the trip!

Dubstep | Zedd ft. Hayley Williams – Stay the Night (Dotcom Remix)
Posted by Juicebox on September 26, 2013
Notorious for his heavy hitting remixes, Dotcom likes to occasionally make my week and whip up a melodic dubstep anthem that always ends up on repeat. This time, Dotcom takes on a recent release from Zedd which is guaranteed to be one of the top ten hits of the year, especially with Hayley Williams enlisted on vocals. The recreated melody blended with Hayley Williams vocals all combined with Dotcom’s signature sound, really come together to create a beautiful remix. Check him out on Facebook here.

Electro, Pop | Great Good Fine Ok – You’re The One For Me
Posted by VMan on September 21, 2013
“You’re The One For Me” by Brooklyn band Great Good Fine OK is the track that marks the end of Summer, and the beginning of Fall. This is the band’s first track on their SoundCloud, and at the sound of things, I’m sure they have a lot more dope records on their way. If I were to compare their sound to any other sound out there it’d be Passion Pit. Play this record and hear why. Enjoy the free download! Must listen and must download!

Review | Jabra Revo Wireless Headphones
Posted by CHAZZZ on September 17, 2013
I recently got hit up by Sumpto (an awesome college rewards site – all college students out there should check it out!) to try out the new Jabra Wireless Revo Headphones. If I’m in the car, walking around campus, studying or just hanging out at home I am constantly listening to music. One problem I often run into with my current over-the-ear noise canceling headphones is the wires are always get in way, so I was very excited to try these wireless noise-canceling headphones. I received them from the company a few days ago and I have never fallen in love with headphones more than these. I have had these on all day and they are the perfect everyday headphone usage, providing top-notch sound quality and great noise canceling. They are an over-the-ear headphone and easily one of the most comfortable pairs I’ve ever put on. They have a very slim design and are not too bulky on your head so you can definitely rock these on campus and not stick out (unlike other headphones). The bluetooth sound quality is very good and as a sound quality geek, this was very important to me. Most wireless headphones sacrifice a lot of sound quality but the Jabra Wireless Revo headphones provide top notch sound quality. These headphones are amazing and I recommend them to any music lover out there, they are the perfect headphone for any college student. Be sure to check them HERE.
Hip-Hop, Rap | San Williams – #drugs
Posted by admin on September 14, 2013
A few days ago, I was perusing SoundCloud when I stumbled upon a rapper by the name of San Williams. Going in to the song with skepticism, (as I do with all random SoundCloud songs), I was instantly caught off-guard by San Williams distinct sound. A dark and raspy voice, the emcee has some bottled up emotion that spills on to each of his tracks. One in particular, “#drugs”, tells the tail of Williams quarrels with the drug game and his past experiences, speaking often times with a very pejorative tone towards the drug culture and those who use.
The song is powerful to say the least and the message behind really drives the whole project. Look below for what inspired San to write this song and also to stream/download the song itself.
San’s first encounter with drugs:
School had just ended. I was in third grade so instead of going to aftercare, I got to wait in the gym with the other big kids. On the average day, I’d sit in the gym for an hour or so till my mom picked me up, but this time my mom was already there. I knew something was wrong because as soon as I sat down I could see my mother’s eyes were red as if she had been crying.
“San, your dad was arrested today,” She whimpered as we pulled away from school. “ He was arrested for something that I just cant explain right now, but you will find out sooner or later, and when you do find out…” She then looked me straight in my eyes, the same way my father gave me that day on his bed “… When you find out just know that everything he did, he did for you.”
As we drove past our house my mother told me that we were going to visit him and the entire car ride there I felt numb, a feeling I still hold in my heart, a numbness that spreads from the edges of my toes to the crown of my head and throughout my soul. As we arrived at the station we began a process that to this day I still perform: starting with the waiting room then to the metal detectors and then to the holding area. My mother my sister and I walked towards the door with the guard in front and in we went.
Cracked glass smeared with a decades worth of filth and lies separated the two of us…
Mix | NEST HQ MiniMix: Phonat
Posted by J-Tiffy on September 12, 2013
Phonat is an amazing artist. His latest six song EP “Identity Theft” contained some of the most creative, technical, and forward-thinking contemporary music available, in my opinion. It houses songs ranging from dark and chilling, to ambient, to funky and bright. Phonat’s music pushes boundaries without sacrificing sophistication. More recently, he crafted a remix for Andrew Bayer’s excellent track, “Need Your Love“, which rivalled the brilliance of the original. His funky, soulful, and glicthy futuristic sound is addictive and inspiring.
This mix is a masterpiece. Phonat moves with ease between genres – all accented by his innovative yet accessible sound. It is an impossibly smooth compilation of deep house, euphoric dubstep, soul, and Phonat’s own brand of future sound. The songs and sounds are carefully selected, and the transitions are beyond slick. He has created a mix that whisks you on away and takes you on an adventure.
Along with this mix, The Nest HQ posted an interview with the man in question; Michele Balduzzi. The mix is free to download, and I very highly recommend that you do so.
