Here’s an interesting story covered by CBS News in DC about the rapper featured in this post who balances his hip hop career with a passion for politics. It even touches upon the new nature of the music industry, a topic that our FNTers know all too well. Check the video if you have some free time. Otherwise skip right ahead to the soulful and chill rap tracks below. I’m really digging Cisco’s vibe, it’s a welcomed change of pace in my music library. Definitely give these an ear. Hip-Hop | Tate Tucker “Goodnight Freestyle” | HIP-HOP

Shouts to my man Young Mo for the tip, this up an coming rapper is armed with some serious talent. Anyone else think this freestyle would be super awkward to listen to in class? Anyways, Tate’s manager hit us up with some info, here’s what he had to say:

Tate Tucker is from Los Angeles, California and he currently attends Georgetown University. He was recently seen by Lupe Fiasco and he has been in brief contact with him. He started freestyling in 8th grade and recorded his first songs at 16. In his first semester of college he decided to take his music seriously and earned some local buzz and even some exposure from the Source Magazine (and over 130k views on worldstarhiphop). His west coast identity is expressed in all of his music, making sure anyone who listens to his tracks know that he’s an LA Native. After months of hard work he is finally starting to see some results. He is currently in the process of recording his first two mixtapes: “Falling Up” and “Everyday Vacation” both scheduled to drop in the spring.

At this point up and coming talent shouldn’t take me by surprise, but every now and again I’m shocked at how easily a little name artist can upstage some of the biggest names in the game. I guess that’s what happens as cheap recording options become increasingly available to the masses. Look out labels, here comes a well armed army of indie artists thats ready to conquer your market share! The featured music video and track from 3rddy offers the bulletproof combo, strong verses and a catchy hook. Simple, yet effective (by the way, what rapper does he remind you of?) Hip-Hop | KAM Royal and Donte

I’ve had KAM Royal on my radar for quite some time and I’m pleased to pop his FNT virginity with this chill rap track. VA stand up! The second song features an up-and-coming rapper who was inspired to begin his career after the passing of a close friend. The pain and general adversity that this Hartford artist faced is definitely present in the track making it a more meaningful listen. Hopefully some of you will recognize the beat from Brenton Duvalls “That’s All” track.
