Progressive House | Mat Zo & Porter Robinson – Easy

Posted by on December 17, 2012

Unless you’ve been seriously out of the loop for the past few weeks, you’ll know that former tour mates Mat Zo and Porter Robinson recently joined forces on a monster collaboration. The fruit of their labor is now available on Beatport, and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t one of my favorite tracks in recent memory. “Easy” basically epitomizes what you want to be blasting as you leave work on a Friday afternoon — it’s a feel good, sing-a-long anthem that’s already seen major live set support from heavyweights like Armin van Buuren and Tiesto. Get this track now because it’s poised to take over in 2013.

Beatport: Mat Zo & Porter Robinson – Easy

Preview, Progressive House | Mat Zo & Porter Robinson – Easy (Preview)

Posted by on November 24, 2012

First premiered by Mat Zo at Trance Around the World 450 / Group Therapy Radio 001 in Bangalore India, “Easy” has all the makings of being the follow up to “Language” and “The Sky” from Porter Robinson and Mat Zo respectively. A collab born from their time touring together (you can catch both of them in Chicago on New Years) and a blossoming friendship, this track combines the best of both worlds from these two, bringing out the melodic side of Porter’s sound with subtle gruffness, while adding the eclectic nature of Mat Zo and adding addicting vocals to make it a totally unique track. No info on release date, but it should be out soon on Anjunabeats / Ministry of Sound.

Progressive House | Clinton VanSciver & Tony Fresch – Sweet Surrender (Original Mix)

Posted by on November 14, 2012

Sweet Surrender is the first release from new Los Angeles-based label Prep School Recordings, and what an inaugural release it is. Shooting up to #23 [as of today] on Beatport’s Progressive House release charts isn’t the kind of thing we normally expect from new imprints, but there’s something different about these guys. The package itself contains the original mix and three remixes, rounded out nicely with both gritty electro and smooth house.

The two standouts are the original mix, produced by Clinton VanSciver & Tony Fresch, and the Ultra Foxx remix, which takes those great melodies and mixes them into a complextro sound ready to make any Porter Robinson or Lazy Rich fan drool for more. Check the entire package out here and check out Prep School Recordings official website out here. Keep an eye out for all of these guys & the label itself, big things are coming.

Events, Review | Zedd & Porter Robinson Poseidon Tour Makes Waves in NYC

Posted by on October 7, 2012

The concept of this tour was unique to begin with. Back to Back sets seem to be a dying art as many DJs are given their set time, play it and let the next guy step up and do their thing. It is planned this way and there is little room for flexibility. There is always the surprise guest who hops on for a little, which may be more frequent in Ibiza or during events like WMC or ADE, but in general B2B is not too common, especially for a prolonged tour. I saw a B2B2B in Toulouse in January with Michael Calfan, Adrian Lux and Jesse Voorn where there as a relatively fluid change from one artist to but you could still tell the difference between each of them. With Zedd & Porter, they had the chemistry on stage of a duo who had been together for several years. They didn’t really play a traditional B2B, taking turns on the decks, instead they acted more as duo, both working the decks simultaneously. Porter seemed to be the dominant force choosing the majority of the songs, which made sense since Porter is a very skilled DJ, but Zedd still had his say throughout the night.

The night started with a good opening set from DJ Gian that gave way to OWSLA man Nick Thayer. Nick Thayer brought a eclectic array of different genres from trap to dubstep to electro and straight hip hop. He made the most of his 1:30, keeping tracks for only a minute or two before mixing into another, keeping the crowd on their toes. He started with a bang with the discovery remix of the year by Torro Torro of “Go Deep” that also saw a play later from Zedd & Porter and then moved through a heavy list of eclectic electro and dubstep. Towards the end of his set he played a trio of “Empire State of Mind”, much to the delight of the crowd, the classic “Party Up” from DMX and even “Baby Got Back”.

DJ-Set, Dubstep, Events, House | Electric Zoo Sets: Day 3

Posted by on September 5, 2012

The final day of Electric Zoo was a doozy. I still feel like I was hit by a plane and day 3 probably had a lot to do with it. Though I unfortunately missed it, Flux & Doctor P apparently put on one hell of a show in the Hilltop tent. The rest of the day was a bouncy, awesome day full of variety and great sets in all the tents. Get to them below and be sure to listen to each of the other days, DAY 1 and DAY 2 if you haven’t already.

Dubstep, Progressive House, Trance, Videos | EDM Video Round-Up – August 2012

Posted by on August 24, 2012

It has recently come to my attention that a number of important videos have dropped this month and we’ve done virtually nothing to acknowledge them. Well, it ends tonight. First up we’ve got one of the coolest and most innovative things I think I’ve ever seen — the video for Mat Zo’s “The Sky” — which gives you an insane, beautiful, jaw-dropping, stomach-clenching, how-the-hell-did-they-even-get-this-footage look into BASE jumping. This video is mind blowing from start to finish, and the fact that all of the gorgeously filmed madness is set to Mat Zo’s equally gorgeous showstopper of a track makes the entire situation that much better. If you do one thing on Fresh New Tracks tonight, watch this video. It’s absolutely incredible and you won’t regret it.

Moving on: see what Madeon, Zedd, Skrillex, and the rest of the gang have been up to after the jump… READ ON >>
