Hip-Hop | A.Dd+ – Where You Been?

The first thing that comes to mind while listening to A.Dd+’s newest release would be: smoker’s anthem. Hailing from Dallas, A.Dd+ offers us a slowed down beat with a heavy chopped and screwed sound that makes for a perfect relaxing song. The whole song is built well starting with a good chorus and verses. This one is definitely an ear pleaser, so make sure to look back for their upcoming project, DiveHiFlyLo.

Electro, Mainstream Remix | Hoodie Allen — Small Town (SmarterChild Remix)

Posted by on September 27, 2012

I don’t generally dabble in anything outside of the hip-hop hemisphere, but SmarterChild hit me with this remix to one of the more ardent tracks from Hoodie Allen’s latest EP, “Small Town,” and he fantastically manipulates it into a electro jam. For Hoodie and EDM-heads alike, this is a sure crowd and party-pleaser, with a hearty dose of electronic riffs and yet still a strong residue of the original.

Progressive House | Digitalism – Zdarlight (Fedde Le Grand & Deniz Koyu Remix)

Posted by on September 10, 2012

Deniz Koyu and Fedde Le Grand joined forces on a pounding, high energy remix of Digitalism’s 2005 mainstay “Zdarlight,” out today on Toolroom Records. They maintain the recognizable theme from the original but layer in some driving kicks and big synths that boost the intensity and make this an arena-ready crowd pleaser. I feel like both producers left an obvious mark on this track — it maintains the punchy, percussive Dutch vibe that Fedde Le Grand is known for while still delivering plenty of catchy progressive red meat. While I still favor the original, there’s no doubt that this has serious potential to do damage on the dance floor. Head over to Beatport for the download.

Albums | Dshaq’s Top 10 of 2011

Posted by on January 11, 2012

2011 was a big year. I started blogging, I got accepted into college, all that good stuff. It was pretty tough going through the iTunes library and narrowing down the choices to just these 10 but I’m pretty happy with it and hopefully it’s a crowd pleaser. Without further ado here is my top 10 of 2011.

10. Lets just say had this song not come out I probably would not like Skizzy Mars as much as I do. This was the first song I heard by Skizzy and his wordplay and unique sound got me hooked.
Skizzy Mars – Douchebag

9.Out of Mac’s 2 mixtapes, album, and EP he released this year, I’m going away from those and with the under the radar track that he did with DJ Premier. This beat alone probably could’ve made the list but Mac spits some quality bars over it.
Mac Miller – Face The Facts

8. This song was literally on repeat all summer…and still is today.
Aer – Feel I Bring

7. I had no idea that my favorite character on Community was able to spit fire like this. I mean the beat is insane but his wordplay is even crazier. Excited to see more from Mr. Glover in 2012
Childish Gambino – Freaks and Geeks

6. This song is pure happiness. I don’t know how else to explain it except that this beat is mesmerizing.
Neon Indian – Polish Girl

5. I don’t know what I enjoy more in this song either the beat or his voice. It’s such a powerful and dark song.
The Weeknd – Wicked Games

4. Macklemore’s ability to tell a story through his lyrics is mind-boggling good. The emotion in this song pours out line by line.
Macklemore – Wings

3. This song alone made me really appreciate Frank Ocean as an artist and also dabble into his other music, which thank god i did.
Frank Ocean – Novacane

2. Ever since A$AP released that mixtape, I honestly can’t go a day without listening to it. This song in particularly, especially with his flow and lyrics in it.
A$AP Rocky – Peso (Prod. By ASAP Ty Beats)

1. Well where do I begin on this one. 2011 was a big year for Tyler and the GOLF WANG. He supplied us with hands down the best Nardwuar Interview, a phenomenal album and countless other funny outbursts that kept us entertained. Although I love this beat and Tyler’s lyrics, I think the video might be even better and it definitely helped create the buzz that really got them on the main stage. I’m really excited to see what’s in store from the Golf Wang hooligans in 2012, especially if Earl comes back.
Tyler, The Creator – Yonkers

Electro | Afrojack and Justice | Electro

Alright, so I’m honestly supppper upset I didn’t make it to Ultra this year. GMONEY was one of the lucky ones. Apparently Afrojack was the festival’s only artist to perform three full sets. Impressive.

The relentless, crowd pleaser has just released his stage destroyer, “Doing it Right” to help keep fans happy across the globe. Download it below, and buy the 320 version on Beatport, here.

I’ve always been a huge Justice fan. Their latest track posted below, “Civilization,” is just a small taste of what’s to come from Justice as they make their return to the electro world. Although this track isn’t as groundbreaking as some of their others, I hold much hope for their forthcoming music.

Hip-Hop | Skeetox Superbowl Remix Edition | HIP-HOP

DJ Skee is a people pleaser (similar to SweetE?). His remix of “Black & Yellow” celebrates the clash between Wiz’s love for the Steelers and Lil’ Waynes passion for the Packers. Although remixes of “Black & Yellow” have gotten old, this one has something for everyone. If you end up partying with friends today, add this track to your playlist.
