Hip-Hop, Rap | Rome Fortune – Lights Low
Posted by admin on July 14, 2014
After premiering on Pitchfork earlier this week, Rome Fortune went on to gather up a gaggle of critical acclaim on his new release, “Lights Low”. Fortune stayed true to his trippy, dream-like sound gliding atop of the Four Tet production. And, although it is unclear how many more releases there might be before his next project, we can assume that we will be equally as impressed.
Rome Fortune just finished up his New York City debut show this week at the Hudson Project. Fortune is on to something big here, and it won’t be long before his Atlanta roots spread worldwide.
Albums, Electronic | Cashmere Cat – Wedding Bells EP & Video
Posted by mimada on February 13, 2014
Yes folks, this is the week we have all been waiting for. Just a few days ago, our favorite feline Cashmere Cat dropped his highly anticipated EP, appropriately titled Wedding Bells, and as a follow up, the music video counterpart for the title track.
As a whole, the EP is a musical journey with uplifting builds and cadences of flutes, piano chords, and dew drops that send you soaring like a leaf wistfully falling in the breeze. In accordance with the theme, each track plays out a motif that strikes a different chord of your heart strings, from the early stages of butterflies and passing notes to the all encompassing feeling of true, uninhibited love. *swoon*
And it seems Cashmere Cat has a complete grasp of his artistic vision in every possible sense, as the visual pairing for the leading single compliments the track in the most compassionate of ways.
Now, according to a Pitchfork review by Nate Patrin, the innovative and “fundamental” nature of the EP marks a turning point in the direction of electronic music, and even more importantly Cashmere’s skyrocketing career. But I beg to differ with Patrin’s claim that it is difficult to develop any sort of “emotional connection to the cuts” as instilling that type of emotion in his listeners seems to be at the top of his artistic agenda. While Patrin argues that these melodies create more “agitation than elation,” I think that’s what causes us to enjoy the EP more and more. There are those moments of slight unease that with a second listen, evolve into strong feelings of adoration, like taking yourself of your listening comfort zone and discovering a whole new appreciation for the sound.
If you haven’t already, you can purchase the Wedding Bells EP via iTunes, and consider saving some money on chocolate and roses tomorrow and burn a copy of it for your significant other as well. That’s when the real magic happens =^.^=

Electronic | Cashmere Cat – With Me
Posted by mimada on November 26, 2013
With so many other DJ personalities to attend to and a blossoming career on the rise, it’s understandable we haven’t seen much from Cashmere Cat recently. However, yesterday this kitty premiered his newest track, “With Me,” via Pitchfork and Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show. It’s everything you love about Cashmere Cat, with the distinctive beats, tambourines, soft piano chords, and those gentle builds that cascade one into the next. But “With Me” feels almost a little bit more intimate and softhearted than some of his previous work. Like a Drake ballad, this is the kind of song that when you listen to it alone, makes you feel like it was created just for you.
And it seems there’s more to look forward to! This song is just a preview of Cashmere’s “Wedding Bells” EP, set to release in January via LuckyMe Records. Fingers crossed the kitty doesn’t get cold feet! =^.^=
