Electro-House, Progressive House | Nicky Romero & ZROQ – WTF!?

Posted by on May 28, 2012

Nicky Romero is back at it again, but this time with a little help from ZROQ, releasing their new single WTF!? The wait from UMF nearly killed me. Watching the stream of Nicky dropping this track just sent me over the top as well as with the crowd. He has yet to disappoint me with his releases, and the fact that he brings his own hard hitting electro style to house music makes me favor him even more because he strives to put himself on a different level from his colleagues. Providing us with an amazing Nicky Romero intro we love so much, that slowly builds its way to an over-the-top, electro styled drop that leaves you in a state of “WTF!?”.  Nicky Romero will be a force to be reckoned with this year, and this is only a taste of what is to come. House, Preview | Eva Simons – I Don’t Like You (Fred Falke Remix)

Fred Falke is one of the great unsung heroes of electronic music. Yes, he has a considerable following and has been in the game for a long time, but for whatever reason I feel like he’s never fully given the spotlight. But perhaps that’s how he likes it. His understated yet musically lush remixes are always in keeping with the best of the French house tradition — melodic, disco-tinged, and eminently danceable. They’re also often so excellent that they quietly eclipse the original tracks (Robyn’s “Dancing On My Own” is a fantastic song, but Fred Falke’s remix has become the platonic ideal for me).

Falke’s latest remix, of the Zedd-produced “I Don’t Like You,” is a perfect example of his ability to fix something that wasn’t technically broken to begin with. He isolates Eva Simons’s powerful vocals and weaves in a new melody with a much more interesting chord progression, which beautifully showcases that almost ecstatic harmony in the chorus. No adrenaline-baiting builds, no airhorn samples or superfluous synthwork; this is just good old fashioned electronic music at its very best. I’m even feeling this over Nicky Romero’s remix, which has been getting heavy airplay on BBC Radio One lately and is sure to see more in the coming weeks. Preview Fred Falke’s remix in full below and look for it to drop on Interscope on May 22.

DJ-Set, Electro-House, Progressive House | Nicky Romero Essential Mix

Posted by on April 28, 2012

Nicky Romero appeared on BBC Radio One’s legendary Essential Mix show last night and definitely made the most of his opportunity, using every second of the 2 hours allotted to him to display his mastery as a producer and as a Dj mixing seamlessly through his extensive discography with hot tracks from others in the industry, while putting together a few impressive bootlegs such as his “Titanium” remix bootleg. He takes the opportunity to play many of his already released tracks, but he also uses this medium to showcase to the world some of his upcoming tracks including his UMF ID that is now a collaboration with ZROQ called WTF and will be released on Nicky Romero’s own Protocol Records.
He also played much his anticipated collaboration with Avicii “Nicktim”, a new collaboration with David Guetta that sounds great, Sander van Doorn’s upcoming anthem “Nothing Inside”, Dyro & Ansol’s electro house banger “Top Of The World”, and the first radio play of Avicii & Lenny Kravitz – Superlove (Original Mix). Nicky Romero is cementing himself as a superstar in EDM with the ability to produce all sorts of genres moving from his works with Fedde le Grand that have more of a tech feel, to his progressive solo works and those with David Guetta and his harder grimier tracks he has done on his own. The essential mixes coming at us this year have been crazy good with the previous two from Alesso & Arty both being must listens. This is perfect for your Saturday so Nicky Romero start off or continue your raging. Tracklist after the jump.

Nilson and The 8th Note are upcoming dutch producers who have been making some fantastic uplifting progressive house tracks together. The remix of Cosmo Klein – By Tonight takes the male vocals and adds a smooth, euphoric synth melody over top with a varying bass line dominated by a clap underneath. Julian Jordan, sixteen year old Dutch producer now signed to Spinnin’ Records, has been slowly building a reputation in house music. Creating some intricate progressive masterpieces that wouldn’t be expected from such a young, up and coming producer. Oxford is a collaboration between Julian Jordan and TV Noise set to release on May 14th through Spinnin’. This track has a great build up with a crazy Nicky Romero, Tommy Trash styled drop. I’m mad we missed the release of his first track on Spinnin’ Records about a month ago, but as long as we have it up now is all that matters. Expect nothing less than a great build up and progressions with this amazing progressive house piece. You can buy the track buy clicking buy on the Soundcloud player below.

Progressive House | Nicky Romero & David Guetta – Metropolis

Posted by on April 11, 2012

After several delays “Metropolis”, the instrumental collaboration between Nicky Romero & David Guetta, has finally released. This song has everything you want with hard hitting bass and synths within a huge drop as well as smooth progressive melodies to build the track that continue underneath the break. You can hear the influence of both artists in on this track, particularly Nicky Romero’s skilled production skills. This track will be massive for the summer so do not hesitate to get on this. This track is another step in what seems to be a strong relationship between these two world famous Djs and I cannot wait to see what comes next.

Events, Review | Toulouse in Toulouse: Nicky Romero at Opium Club

Posted by on April 8, 2012

Whenever an artist names a song after a city and they play a show in said city, it is a special show for both the people in attendance and the artist. Nicky Romero has really exploded into 2012 with the December release of his track “Toulouse” and Thursday night was his first visit to the city that has helped sparked his fame. Though he was sipping on some Perrier with a straw (bawse) he still knew how to party, throwing winks at random chicks dancing on the bar, high fiving fans, and raging in the Dj booth. He played a well thought out, calculated set from the first to the last song with a few unreleased track, including the first ever play of his remix of the Zedd produced Eva Simons – I Don’t Even Like You (short video below, notice the ass slapping motion, the song is that filthy). Rest of the recap after the jump.
