Events, Review | Hardwell, Dyro, Audien & Henrix @ Governor’s Island 5/26/13
Posted by Middy on June 2, 2013
Looking back on last weekend, I think about how time flew from graduating college on Saturday afternoon, to a whirlwind celebration afterword into the wee hours of the morning, then struggling to move out entirely a few hours later to get home and make it into New York for this show on Governor’s Island by 4pm (was never going to happen). The lineup starting with Hardwell, then Dyro, Henrix and Audien was golden and if you were in New York, you had to attend this event. The city had “officially” kicked off the festival season with overpriced, lackluster EDC New York in the parking lot of Citi Field and really needed a proper start to festival season. Why not a holiday weekend like Memorial Day weekend that is the beginning of summer for many, on the beaches of Governer’s Island, with a lineup led by possibly the hottest DJ in the world right now, Hardwell.

The party you wanted to go to, but never could because it was always over in Europe (unless you are European), last year made made that dream come true with its debut in the US, at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York. After a successful launch last year with some arguably overpriced tickets it returns to the US for a second year, expanding the tour from one city to four cities. It will remain in New York, while also hitting dance music hotspots, Miami, San Francisco and Las Vegas. Dates have yet to be announced, but the tour will be this fall. Watch the trailer below and sign up for a special pre-sale here. Sensation is a one of a kind experience you do not miss, so make sure you sign up and pay attention for further announcements.
Electro-House | Walden – Machine Land EP
Posted by Middy on April 29, 2013
Aussie youngster, Walden has become a hot pick lately as an up and comer with several releases thus far this year on New York based Big Beat Records and already touring stateside, playing the esteemed Ultra Music Festival. This time he returns with three new originals (one is an 2013 update) to cultivate a three track EP, exploring new sounds and styles for the burgeoning talent from down under.
The EP starts with the title track “Machine Land”, which starts immediately with an onslaught of echoing, electro beats that pound at you until the very last second of the track. It is downloadable for free for the next 48 hours below. The next two tracks continue the trend of hard hitting electro with the new original “Only Invader” that starts with an ominous build and then cascades into a fast paced, pitched synth laden drop with a growling low end and then finishes with an update of his previously free single “Mono World”, tweaking the grungy track to fit the EP. Walden has been slowly creating his niche with euphoric, big room house tracks and with this EP, he flips the script completely and shows his capacity to create hard hitting electro tracks, much like others on his label. It is an interesting direction to see him and go and it will be worth watching in the future.

Compilation | What’s In Dshaq’s Tape Deck vol. 3

After a brief hiatus, I’m back and ready to give you some tunes guaranteed to make you feel giddy inside. Instead of my regular hip-hop posts, I’m broadening my horizons with this volume including some electronic artists and other various genres. Prepare yourselves.
1) Cherub
Luckily I was able to see Cherub last weekend and they blew me away. Their synthy pop sound gives off an state of ecstasy that is guaranteed to get you grooving and bopping your head. Cherub hails from Nashville and has actually been around for a little bit, but has failed to receive the praise they deserve. Their Doses and Mimosas video (which is my favorite track by them), has over 600,000 views on youtube and I definitely see them blowing up very soon. Check out the video below and check out their Facebook, Twitter, and Soundcloud pages below.
Hip-Hop, Videos | Raz Simone – Hometown (Video)
Posted by J_Salzer on April 17, 2013
April 8th Raz Simone released his latest song/video called “Hometown”, the same day as his court date in New York. The new song has a special meaning to Raz because of events occurring in his life recently. As he’s known to do Raz uses this video as an informal letter to his fans about what he’s been going through. To hear more of Raz’s story check out his recently released solo debut EP “Solomon Samuel Simone”, available for free download here.
I am a huge supporter of the up and coming hip-hop scene in Seattle. It was produced people like Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis, The Blue Scholars, and Grieves. It is also home to up and comers like Sam Lachow, Raz, Gift Uh Gab, and many, many others. Check out the video above and don’t sleep on Raz.

Ready for a Sunday funday to remember? New York people, Governor’s Island Beach Club is getting ready to open back up for the summer after a star studded cast last summer that included performances from Dash Berlin & Tritonal, Alesso, Thomas Gold and Gareth Emery. On Sunday, May 26th, Hardwell will be joined by Dyro, Audien, Henrix and New York local Alex English for an 8 hour marathon event from 4pm to midnight on Governor’s Island with its beautiful backdrop overlooking the lower Manhattan skyline. If you want a variety of big room beats, this lineup has exactly what you want, ranging from the percussive heavy tracks from Henrix, to Audien’s brand of euphoric trance. On the heals of his massive Ultra set and his sold out “I am Hardwell” show coming up, the Dutch star is the logical first headliner for Governor’s Island. Tickets are now on sale, so grab them while they are still cheap / before they sell out.
Interviews | Ferry Corsten and Markus Schulz (AKA the New World Punx) At A State of Trance 600 NYC
Posted by Spice on April 7, 2013
Last weekend, we sat down with trance legends (and noted bromance) Ferry Corsten and Markus Schulz before their massive set as the New World Punx at A State of Trance 600 NYC. On the dockett? EDM, bank robberies, and the story behind those hilarious New World Punx comics. The Expedition tour had its explosive finale last night in Den Bosch, and while we’re sad that it’s come to an end, we’re very excited to see what Ferry and Markus have in store for us in 2013. From what we gathered in New York, these two definitely have some serious tricks up their sleeve.
