Preview, Progressive House | Pryda – Power Drive (Preview)

Posted by on March 19, 2013

No the release date is no joke, April 1st will mark the occasion for the release of the next Eric Prydz single — the forceful, haunting, yet melodic, “Power Drive”. Coming off of a banner year that saw his 3 CD Pryda album release, increased touring, a move to the US and his tracks “Everyday” and “Allein” still making waves, “Power Drive” is yet another reminder of the unstoppable force that is Eric Prydz. With an Eric Prydz album coming hopefully sometime this year (he says so), he is setting himself up to have possibly an even bigger 2013.

After getting its world premier in November of 2011, Avicii finally releases his track that was dubbed “ID 2” or “Fire” or “Put Your Piano On” by Tiesto. It is slightly different than the version that was being played out for a while and then played once on Tiesto’s Club Life, but still has the same hallmarks of the melodic, big room sound that has made Avicii so popular. Most notably the melody in the beginning and the rolling piano that gives this track its uniqueness. It is interesting that Avicii is releasing this track as a part of the UMF 2013 album instead just as his own CD. It is either an indication that he really respects UMF and wants to give them something special, or he feels has moved past this sound and this does not really reflect where he is at the moment. Putting the snafu of his computer getting stolen behind him, Avicii has spent the past several months working on his upcoming album and by all indicators it should make the Swedish superstar even bigger.

Guest Post from Evora:

This week I moved away from the melodic/electro dubstep because being in mid-finals grind (my school is on the quarter system), my mind craves melodies that are consistent in vocals, beat, and style. I love huge drops when I’m hitting the gym or out on a run, but when I study I need music that provides the “white noise” needed to block out all distractions. Whether it is a paper, quiz, or midterm, use this playlist to power through those long weeks ahead!

Hip-Hop | Cam Meekins – Inhale

Hailing from Boston, young Cam Meekins’ just let loose this melodic self-produced track in light of his 20th birthday. The thing that intrigues me about Cam is that he sets himself apart from other upcoming artists in the same “league”. From producing his own beats down to his ever-changing lyrical style, he’s constantly working to make his music original. If you’ve been listening to him as long as I have you know that each project he’s dropped sounds completely different from the last. He does have an upcoming album Lamp City in the works which is completely produced by Cam himself, so be on the lookout! If you’re in the Boston area he is set to perform at Brighton Music Hall on April 18th so check that out and grab tickets using the link below.

Progressive House | Henrix – Miami Heaters – Volume 2: The WMC EP

Miami native Henrix has seen the yearly worldwide dance music pilgrimage for Ultra come and go and patiently waited his turn to make his mark on the most important week in dance music. This time with 7 gigs coming up, he is kicking it off with a 3 track EP with some of his most requested tracks including the Tiesto supported “After All”. With his much anticipated single “Hit It” still sitting high in the charts and ready to rock stages at UMF, he turns back to the mode of free downloads to give out more quality tunes.

The EP sandwiches the acid fueled “Miami Bounce” with 2 massive big room tracks. “After All” makes good work of chopped vocal bits, aiding Eran Hersh’s etheral vocals over a sublime melody of soaring synths and a playful piano top line. For those of you saying this is a cheap knock off of “Million Voices”, here is a clip of it being made before “Million Voices” was even public. “Close Your Eyes” is the first of several collabs between two of our artists to watch in 2013, Henrix and Jakob Liebholm, as they tab Zashanell to lay down angelic vocals over an uplifting big room track that shows the subtlety of Jakob Liedholm’s sound and the melodic sensibilities that Henrix is capable of drawing upon.

Dubstep, Trap | Hopscotch – Emotion

Hopscotch - Emotion

“Emotion” is exactly what this new free single from Hopscotch is. It is a melodic blend of purple bass, Trap, and Dubstep, not the usuals we are use to hearing together. With production help from Releece, Hopscotch wrote beauty into this track. Besides how great her voice is, her verses fit perfectly into the “Emotion” that is this tracks instrumental. No date or name set yet, but Hopscotch has announced that she has an EP coming soon.

Dubstep, Review | Reso – Tangram Remixed (Ft. Koan Sound, Billain, Om Unit, & Doshy)

Posted by on March 12, 2013

Reso - Tangram Remixed (Ft. KOAN Sound, Billain, Om Unit, & Doshy)One of the best remix compilations these artists will ever be a part of. Reso really knew who he wanted to do remixes, and his choices are a great success. Each remix is great on their own. KOAN Sound came in a little differently than they have been, but provided enough glitchy bass to feed a starving country… if people were to be able to ingest bass. Billain dropped a filthy Neuro-hop remix followed by an incredible melodic remix from Om Unit. Though I had made my comments on my favorites previously, the full remix of Doshy’s turned out to be more interesting than imagined. 4 great remixes, it doesn’t get better than that.
