Progressive House | Alesso ft. Matthew Koma – Years

Posted by on August 4, 2012

Happy Saturday everyone, “Years” is finally out. After hearing this played countless times on radio shows by Pete Tong, Sebastian Ingrosso and Swedish House Mafia and seeing the song evolve over the last several months, it is a relief to have this one finally be released. Matthew Koma has become one of the most in demand vocalist’s lately, with his vocal edit of “Sparks” and “Spectrum” already under his belt. Alesso delivers on a sublime piano melody with a complex snare based bass line to create this blissful festival sized track. Expect “Years” to get some heavy play the end of this summer as the dog days of August wind down and Fall approaches.

Preview, Trance | Zedd – Spectrum (Arty Remix)

Posted by on July 19, 2012

Just when you thought the body of “Spectrum” remixes had reached critical mass, Arty swoops in and changes the game. This might be my favorite of the bunch — I’ve already professed my love for Armin’s treatment, but that seems almost conservative in comparison to what the young Russian producer has done here. Arty has accomplished the impressive feat of totally rerouting Zedd’s anthemic track, layering in eerily mesmerizing chords and bright, punchy synth bursts that manage to give this summer favorite a completely new and different tenor. In short, this is amazing in its own right. Unfortunately, we’re stuck waiting until July 31st for a hiqh quality download — that’s when the full Spectrum EP is set to drop.

Progressive House | Fedde Le Grand & Nicky Romero – Sparks

No two ways about it: today is a huge day for releases. In addition to Afrojack’s “Rock the House”, Fedde Le Grand & Nicky Romero’s epic collaboration with Matthew Koma is now officially out on Beatport. Middy has already suggested that “Sparks” will prove to be one of 2012’s anthems, and I can’t say that I disagree; with adrenaline-baiting builds and an aggressively high energy synth hook, this banger has all the necessary ingredients to become one of the defining songs of the summer. Though the vocal mix with Matthew Koma will not be available until August 6th, the instrumental mix shows just how powerful a track this is.

What are your picks for summer anthem so far? Let us know in the comments or the chat box.

This summer has lacked that signiature track that really defined the sound of the summer. Last summer had “Levels” and more specifically “Calling”. “In My Mind” is still getting plenty of air play because it has yet to see a song unseat it as song of the year, but otherwise for potential anthems released this summer, you will come up empty. “Sparks” may just be that song. I am not guaranteeing an anthem from this track because I am not Nostradamus, but if this song were getting drafted into the anthem draft, it would go number one this summer. It will have stiff competition from two tracks coming out in the coming weeks in “Top Of The World” and Afrojack – Rock The House, but either way watch out because sparks will fly on July 16th when this is unleashed on the world.

Preview, Trance | Zedd Feat. Matthew Koma – Spectrum (Armin Van Buuren Remix) [Preview]

Well. So much for that Beatport competition.

Armin debuted this yesterday on ASOT (sidenote: did anyone have any idea he even had this thing in the works? Sneaky bastard) and when I learned of this fact I was so overcome with the potential awesomeness of such a musical coupling that I had to excuse myself and think of less exciting things, like Japanese proverbs and the technical science underpinning the Higgs boson. As a matter of fact, those physicists might have gotten it wrong — this remix might actually be the Higgs boson. I don’t know. All I know is that 1) “Spectrum” was already an absolutely incredible song and 2) there’s pretty much no conceiveable way for Matthew Koma’s vocals not to complement Armin’s lush soundscapes wonderfully.

And let’s just say that AVB delivers. He masterfully augments the emotional moments in “Spectrum,” bringing us to blissful crest after blissful crest before shifting seamlessly into pure, feel-good trance. I do love the original, but I’ve always found Zedd’s synths after the drop to feel a bit incongruous and choppy after the smooth, chromatic verse and chorus. This to me is perfection. No word on a release date yet but you’d better believe that I’ll be first in line when it drops.

Progressive House | Zedd Feat. Matthew Koma – Spectrum (Moiez Remix)

Posted by on June 22, 2012

Canadian producer Moiez has released his remix of Zedd’s “Spectrum” luckily for us before the announcement of the “Spectrum” Beatport remix contest that will inevitably be filling up my inbox in the coming days. Moiez keeps the emotion of the track and adds his melodic flare to it by tinkering only slightly with the build and then reconstructing almost entirely the drop into a peak time, hands in the air break of a driving, clap dominating bass line, melodic synth chords and rising synths. If you didn’t check out his previous tracks do so and from the looks of it, we have something good brewing here with this young Canadian.
