e zoo vinyl stage 2014

This is an announcement for everyone who was born before 1984 and actually listened to vinyls before they became cool. E Zoo is bringing the second half of the Sunday School experience, the Vinyl Only Stage which they inaugurated at Mysteryland, to NYC for the 6th edition of the festival. The expansion of Sunday School follows the trend of the strengthening underground and a growing popularity for house, tech and techno in the past few years. Each day will be hosted by a different purveyor of the plastic, with Behrouz on Friday, Frank & Tony on Saturday and the legend Josh Wink on Sunday. If you want to hear some crisp, clean vinyl, head to the 6th stage for the 6th year anniversary this Labor Day. Tickets are still on sale so grab them here.

Events | Electric Zoo Releases Trailer, Extra Security Measures & Pre-Sale Tickets

Posted by on April 30, 2014

The big news coming out of Made Event today is that Electric Zoo finally was issued its permits by the city of New York for this year over Labor Day weekend August 29th – August 31st. That means all of the wild and ridiculous speculation that E Zoo wouldn’t be back can end and the attention can turn to who will be booked and the new safety measures put in place. Speaking of those safety measures, a quick run down: drug sniffing dogs, lots of extra cops & medical personnel, including undercovers in the crowd, big marketing & social media campaign about safety and most importantly, a shorter festival cutting two hours of the day from 11am – 1pm.

So the question now arises, with all of the extra security, will it become suffocating and cause problems or be a net benefit and will you get your money’s worth for you ticket since prices are not going down, even with less acts. Pre-sale tickets are on sale now for $335 so check it out and make the decision yourself. We had a blast day one and two last year, but everyone knows this year will be different.

Events, Review | North Coast Music Festival Recap

Summer’s last stand, North Coast Music Festival’s motto, could not have been more accurate depiction of this past Labor Day weekend. With a lineup up to par with Lollapalooza, Coachella, and other big festivals, North Coast brought the house down beginning with Friday, where the festival had to be evacuated due to severe weather. While it dampened the mood for a little, the festival resumed and big names such as Mac Miller and Passion Pit killed their performances.

Saturday brought out some pretty good performers for the afternoon, such as Flatbush Zombies, who were probably my favorite performance of the whole festival, but also DVBBS, Futurerock, Gramatik, and Nas. Gramatik put on a killer set, straight shredding on the guitar. Nas also killed it as well, performing most of Genesis. I’m pretty sure my life has been completed from seeing that live. Finally by the end of the night, it was a tough decision: Afrojack or Big Gigantic? Torn between the two, I chose Afrojack. Although I did end up going to Big Gigantic for a little bit, Afrojack was definitely the right choice. It was one of the best sets I’ve heard in a while, incorporating a wide variety track list but he always kept the crowd jumping and engaged. That was one of the things that I noticed at Big Gigantic: although they played a great live show and sounded fantastic, the crowd was nowhere near to as upbeat as the people at Afrojack.

While the first two days were a lot of fun, they had nothing on Sunday. By far the best day of the festival packed with names such as Danny Brown, A-Trak, Madeon, Cherub, Datsik, Rebelution, Wu-Tang Clan, Purity Ring, and Lotus, it was easy to understand why Sunday reigned supreme. I began my day at Danny Brown. The Detroit native put on a fabulous performance incorporating old stuff from XXX and The Hybrid but also some of his newer stuff. He even brought out GBE member, SD, and the crowd went absolutely nuts for it.

After Danny, we darted over to A-Trak and the next two hours of A-Trak and Madeon, back-to-back, was amazing. A-Trak just knew how to get the crowd into it, dropping a New Slaves trap remix then going straight into Bugatti then straight to Aint worried bout nothin. Breath taking. Madeon was next and had some big shoes to fill after what A-Trak just did, but the French wonder kid put on a show nothing short of spectacular. After those two were finished, we made our way over to Cherub and watched them perform. I’ve seen Cherub before, but they were just as good as I remembered. Hold You and Doses and Mimosas got the crowd going wild and they had some jam sessions during the middle of their songs. Finally it was time for Wu-Tang clan. The best part about that was that they were performing all of 36 Chambers. All the while showing love to ODB, Wu-Tang did their thing up there. I almost shed a tear of joy when CREAM was played. Then straight out of left field, like Friday, they stopped the show and evacuated the festival due to severe weather warnings.

Although it was a bit anti-climatic, the festival was a surreal experience that will definitely have me coming back in the next coming years. A nice closed environment makes it easy to navigate while being close enough to see and hear all the artists perfectly. A big thanks to North Coast for their hospitality and see you at Union Park next year!

Trance, Trap | EZRA – Dreaming

Dutch producer EZRA released a trance-trap fusion track called “Dreaming” and you can expect a euphoric trip with this one. With a progressive build from synths, to drums, to bass, topped with dreamy female vocals, you can’t go wrong. Sitting here reminiscing on this grey Labor Day of how epic Summer 2013 was, one can’t help but feel accomplished listening to “Dreaming.” Interestingly enough, just like all dreams, it’s too short! EZRA make us an extended version, 2 minutes of dreaming is just too short, and make this track available for downoad! Either way stream this record, and enjoy your day off! Must listen!

Chill, Trap | Cypriot Vibez – Girl I Want

Posted by on September 2, 2013

I’m sure we could all use some chill music after this long Labor Day weekend, right? “Girl I Want” by Cypriot Vibez, who is 1/2 of the London based group Myth, is just that. Deep, low-key vocal chopping flows over some trippy trap beats. The piano, especially at the end of the track, is absolutely charming. This original track is a pleasure to the ears from start to finish. It’s free to download as well!

Events | Electric Zoo Phase 2 Lineup Headliners

Posted by on May 7, 2013

Electric Zoo 2012

We are starting to get a full picture of how Electric Zoo will look this year after the announcement that it would have two mainstages. Electric Zoo is slowly releasing the names for those who will be coming to Randall’s Island on Labor Day weekend, following the first wave of artists who will take over the mainstages. Phase 2 fills in some of the gaps for the rest of the tents that give the festival its character and diversity, from the Sunday School tent to the Riverside Arena. As suspected, the festival has expanded from 4 stages to 5, so there will be more artists, more choice and inevitably more painstaking, heart-wrenching conflicts over artist time slots (Laidback Luke vs. Steve Aoki is not one… I hope I don’t have to tell you why).

Repeat from last year the Riverside Arena will see Dim Mak take over on Sunday, while Friday will see the joint takeover of Riverside by OWSLA and Boyz Noise Records and A-Trak’s Fools Gold Records on Saturday. The Sunday School Grooooove tent will have new proprietors with Adam Beyers’s Drum Code coming to town on Sunday to bring some techno in your face. There does not appear to be a trance stage, which is a bit disappointing, though Armin, Ferry Corsten, Above & Beyond and Markus Schulz are all on the lineup separately. Nobody as of yet has made their claim to any of the Hilltop days, but the lineup’s seem eclectic enough that they would lack a clear label owner. There are more artists to be announced, so do despair if you feel it is lacking in trance or house or dubstep, just wait, especially for the label tents. There is also the option to buy a Friday combo pack, where you buy a ticket for Friday + either Saturday or Sunday, so decide your festival experience. Tickets are on sale now, so grab them below. Check the full lineup after the jump.
