Wow, just wow. Arno Cost started the year on Size Records with “Head Up“, and finishes off the year on the same label alongside Greg Cerrone. The track was delayed 4 days for some reason or another, but it is here after being premiered by Danny Howard on BBC Radio One and getting heavy play by the label boss over the past several months. The track has both the classic prog sound that Arno Cost is known for, with a furious, fast paced, searing melody that will pierce through any DJ set.

After his “Petroleum” remix on Pryda Friends, Jeremy Olander returns home to finish out the year with a thumping new single “Bandersnatch. Referring to the mystical creature in Lewis Carroll’s “Through The Looking Glass”, and later in “Alive In Wonderland”, the track has an ominous, foreboding quality. “Bandersnatch” bridges the gap between some of his more progressive productions and what we have seen in tracks like “Animal Garden” or “Rose Law”, making this something for all of his fans tastes. When Eric Prydz describes your track as “Oh my god, what a banger”, you know there is something special.

Hailing from Montreal, the Canadian producer releases a three track EP on the only label that seems fit for his music, deadmau5’s mau5trap. Eekkoo provides a wide variety of plucks, piano stabs and distorted synths over a common theme of fat bass lines, creating a hypnotic piece of dance music from start to finish. While it may be considered a bit close to “deadmau5 style”, Eekkoo has his own sound that has earned the praise of the big boss himself.

Consistently one of the most innovative minds in electro house, and in dance music in general, Wolfgang Gartner has been a pioneer from the moment he started. Capping off another great year that has seen the resurgence of his label, Kindergarten Recordings, the cat loving American releases his new single “Piranha”. “Piranha” has the unique electro sound you want from Wolfgang, with a foreboding synth lead, a punchy bass line and glitchy, melodic excellence. Like a piranha, this track won’t just come after you once, but rather slowly beat you into submission with each subtle element over the entire duration of the song.

We’re all a part of a moment in hip-hop history during which artists who self-identify as “rappers” range drastically in regards to how they define that role, the kind of music they create and label as “hip-hop”, the kind of technical skill they possess. The aesthetic sound of rapping has become a ubiquitous part of pop radio, and with this change most of the rappers who strive for mainstream attention work harder to try to fit the mold of simplicity that generally regulates what becomes a hit or doesn’t. Within such a concentrated industry, there are limited outlets for the fan both of technically skilled rappers and melodicism; rappers who can really spit, but also who’ll experiment with club-ready production (hence the rapid success of artists who occasionally fit this mold: Kendrick, Macklemore, etc.). Tonight we bring you a record striving to do just this—simultaneously satisfy the tastes of both those who love the kind of melodic, synth-heavy trap beats that Judge (who—if you’re a Mike Stud fan—you’ve likely heard the work of on multiple occasions) so expertly crafts, and also appease those who listen to hip-hop for the advanced lyricism; the kind of alliteration, wordplay, and rhyme schemes that have become synonymous with Accent’s work. Wave Racer has been one of my favorite new artists with his bouncy take on so many different songs. The Future Classic label is stacked and Australia is budding with emerging new producers and Wave Racer is at the forefront. The whistles mixed with the bouncy bass and catchy synths are magical. This one is going to be on repeat forever, and I’ve already been stuck on his Always Remix, which I will post below. Get in tune with Wave Racer and his social media outlets below and show some love!
Progressive House | Audien ft. Ruby Prophet – Circles

Audien has had a breakout year, and what better way to cap it off than with a track on the label that released “Leaving You” and that encapsulates the progressive Audien sound. This is the second collaboration between Audien and Ruby Prophet, following up their 2012 single on Zouk, “These Are The Days”. “Circles” has all the same stylistic similarities with a catchy melody, just the right amount of the vocals and the vintage Audien touch.
