Trance | Gareth Emery & Ashley Wallbridge – DUI

Posted by on December 20, 2012

As the follow up to their highly successful single “Mansion”, fellow British trance producers Gareth Emery and Ashley Wallbridge team up once more to finish out the year with “DUI”. Gareth Emery has put out some of the biggest trance tracks in the past 12 months like “Concrete Angel”, the aforementioned “Mansion”, and “Tokyo”, and “DUI” falls into that driving, uplifting style that he has espoused and become so well known for. “DUI” shines with its quick key play, fast paced bass line and big, uplifting drop aided with a powerful snare. The release on this song was delayed which is odd because it is Gareth Emery’s own label, but I guess at a certain point, those decisions are taken out of his hands..

Avicii has finally released a few songs lately with his remix of Madonna’s “Girl Gone Wild” and finally “Silhouettes” getting a release, though it was regionally locked for quite a while. Links below if you still don’t have it. He is also releasing his remix of Lenny Kravitz “Superlove” on May 27th (preview below) so be ready for that one. His Le7els tour has not gotten off to a good start with the first 3 weeks of shows being canceled because the setup was not ready. This means that the south of the US ie Texas, Atlanta and other shows in late may early june are no longer happening, so check your ticket provider for refund details if necessary.

Support for each of the tour dates have been announced with artists like Gareth Emery, Arty, Cazzette, Pleasurekraft, Chuckie and more. Many of these guys headline shows on their own and to have them come as support for Avicii will make for each show to be that much more outstanding and have people rocking from the first note to the very last. Tour dates w/ support after the jump.

Also included is Michael Brun’s May mixtape with an exclusive first play of a remix of his that sounds outstanding, as well as exclusive bootlegs and edits with a fantastic track selection from the just turned 20 year old Haitian. Trance, Videos | Trance Tuesday

Posted by on January 10, 2012

I apologize for not posting last week as I was moving out for my study abroad so I could not do it, but I am back this week with some great tracks. Above is a video that Gareth Emery was kind enough to give away of his 5 HOUR set at the Warehouse Project in Manchester on December 26th. The video shows just how powerful a trance set can be and how great a live Dj he is seamlessly mixing genres with house and trance, and even sprinkles of dub. In this post are a bunch of selections from the giant Anjunabeats and Enhanced Recordings, which is becoming one of the leaders in uplifting trance.
Ost & Meyer deliver with this track that was featured on Anjunabeats Vol 9. It has everything you expect from Anjunabeats, uplifting synths, scintillating piano riffs and a great trance bass line. The Dan Stone remix of “Scarlet Love” adds a little extra to the original with a sublime synth drop at around 2 minutes and some more bass to the overall song. Get them on BEATPORT.

This is yet another song from Anjunabeats Vol 9 that is simply outstanding. This track’s synth work is top notch from the build to the drop and is great trance for any EDM lover. Get it on BEATPORT.

Boom Jinx & Daniel Kandi deliver on this track with a sensitive melody with a smooth reverbed synth overlay and that signature trance bass and kick line. Get it on BEATPORT.

Tomas Heredia does a great job with this remix with a long build and a smooth violin based break into an uptempo pitched synth drop that you hear so much on Armada. Get it on BEATPORT.

ASOT 550, an amazing event in music. It will be in the US twice so get there and I hope to see some of our European fans at the Den Bosch show. I have a great post for you guys this week with the likes of Gareth Emery and Armin van Buuren both with releases. Armin did this remix of a great female vocal cover of the Kings of Leon song “Use Somebody”. The vocals accompany his sound perfectly to deliver this fantastic rework. Get it on Beatport HERE.
DOWNLOAD: Laura Jansen – Use Somebody (Armin van Buuren Rework)

Here is Gareth Emery’s latest single “Tokyo”, which is a little heavier than what we are used to from the British trance star, but it is an amazing song nonetheless. Make sure to check out this song. Get it on Beatport HERE.

Alex M.O.R.P.H is a rising star with Armada and has been on a tear this year releasing remix after remix of superior quality. This one holds true to his form with a long build and an uplifting vocal break. Do not sleep on this guy or this song. Get it on Beatport HERE.

Matt Lange gives us this fantastic uplifting trance song with beautiful vocals from Cristina Soto. They perfectly mesh together with smooth synths and those perfect female trance vocals. Get it on Beatport HERE.

This is the remix that Mat Zo did that was released on Anjunabeats Vol. 9 and here is the single version. This song has grown on me with its groovy beats and smooth synths and adds a lot to the original. Get it on Beatport HERE.

Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten, two of the biggest names in Trance and in EDM, team up to give us this massive trance track called Brute. It is a bit different from their latest collaboration “Minack” on Armin’s latest artist album, Mirage. This song is going to be on Ferry Corsten’s upcoming artist album. Buy it on Beatport HERE.

Here are two awesome remixes off of Super8 & Tabs Empire remix album from Gareth Emery and Protoculture. Gareth Emery’s remix takes a little while to build but once it does, it is amazing and the female vocals are perfect. The Protoculture remix gives the song that little extra with its slow, soothing build and great drop with quality synth and bass. Buy the songs on Beatport HERE.

DJ-Set, Events | Electric Zoo Recap & Sets

Posted by on September 13, 2011

The EDM beast that broke out of its cage at Electric Zoo had a similar effect as the Bronx Cobra, which had the entire city of New York captivated. Although this event wasn’t putting any lives at risk per se, the crowds, which were hardly distinguishable from animals, could hardly be tamed. Yet that’s to be expected when the likes of Afrojack, Tiesto, Guetta, Armin, Skrillex, Alesso, Hardwell, amongst countless other powerful DJ’s are on stages fortified by walls of massive lights.

As I mentioned in my last concert review, if the large crowds and expensive ticket prices intimidate you enough to avoid these festivals, you’ll be kicking yourself in a few years when it’s no longer acceptable or as fun for you to attend. Sure, it might cost you a few hundred bucks to catch all three days, but those memories will be priceless in the end, I promise.

Will call, line speeds, and security checks are always the first sign of a properly run event. Electric Zoo earned an “A” in this department as it took roughly 15 minutes to clear everything. Since I’m not a New York native, I opted out of the affiliated transportation options and took taxis, but it did look really well organized.

Since Electric Zoo featured numerous big name acts, I’m going to break this review down into a few sections: favorite performance, crowd favorite, best up and comer, and honorable mentions.

Check out the rest of the review as well as the sets and tracklists after the jump and there are a lot of them so enjoy.
